Updated with the latest: The Sandman, based on the comics by Neil Gaiman, will end with its second season. This news came following allegations of misconduct and sexual assault against Gaiman, which has resulted in his other projects being paused or canceled. The decision to end the story with Season 2 was made before filming on the second installment began.
“‘The Sandman’ series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” showrunner Allan Heinberg wrote in a post shared on X. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.

All good dreams must come to an end sooner or later, and so it goes that a very good Dream is about to come to an end imminently on Netflix. In news that will likely come as a surprise to precisely nobody, today the streaming giant has announced that its dark fantasy epic The Sandman will conclude with the release of its upcoming second season. Officially, the line is that the series is finishing because the story of Tom Sturridge's Morpheus — aka Dream — is coming to its natural end. And while that is doubtless a key factor, much like Prime Video's suddenly cut short Good Omens, it's hard not to assume that the serious and ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct that have been brought against creator Neil Gaiman in recent months have played their part in Netflix's decision to pull the plug. You can read a statement on the...

Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” will end with its upcoming second season.
“The Sandman” Season 2 has been a long time coming. The first season debuted in August 2022, and it wasn’t renewed at Netflix until November of that year. At that time, Netflix was also hesitant to label it as a second season at all, choosing instead to say it was “a continuation of ‘The Sandman’ world,” and wouldn’t commit to an episode count. Variety has confirmed the second season of “The Sandman” was intended to be the last prior to filming in 2023.

Natalie Dormer believes that she should have received more credit for the role that she played in HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. In an interview in 2016, the actress talked about what made her character so much more difficult to play when compared to, say, Jack Gleeson’s Joffrey Baratheon.

It's an understatement to say that a lot of characters on "Game of Thrones" meet some very, very ugly ends ... and that certainly includes Shae, the character played by Sibel Kekilli who appears in 20 episodes of the hit HBO fantasy series. Shae — who also appears in "A Song of Ice and Fire," the book series by George R.R. Martin that serves as the source material for the series — first shows up in season 1 of the show and sticks around until the end of season 4, where she meets that aforementioned ugly end ... but before that, she spends pretty much all of her time in the orbit of "the Imp," Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), a man whose family despises him nearly as much as he hates them in return. At first, Shae and Tyrion's relationship is actually really sweet and even romantic, but true love...

President Donald Trump finally takes office as the 47th president of the United States, and while his supporters are celebrating, others like George R.R. Martin remain unimpressed. The famed author had been very vocal about his political stance over the years, and this included several remarks about the politician.

As much as Game of Thrones is loved for all the stunning plotlines and jaw-dropping moments it has brought forward through the words of George R.R. Martin, there have also been quite a few instances where the complex narratives could have really been narrowed down to much simpler ones. This stands especially true while considering the show’s controversial final seasons.

Among the many missed opportunities in the same, one glaring oversight was the showrunners’ failure to utilize their biggest ace card to take down Cersei in Season 7 of the series. To say the least, this missed plotline could have not only expedited the show’s progression but also offered a more realistic and satisfying resolution to the respective character’s reign of terror.

Game of Thrones used to be one of the finest book-based live-action adaptations of all time before a disastrous finale made pretty much all of its hard work to make the show a masterpiece go to waste. While the show had the perfect cast and characters, the writing of the plotlines was where everything took a turn downhill, especially in the later seasons.

Game of Thrones is one of the greatest cultural phenomena ever. Based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, this show revolutionized modern television with its complex characters, intricate political plot lines, and epic battles. But, compromises are inevitable when adapting a beloved book into a television series.

Jack Gleeson, the face behind Game of Thrones’ most despised brat-king, Joffrey Baratheon, did something no one saw coming. Having ruled as one of TV’s most hated villains (and making bank doing it), Gleeson did something similar to what Emma Watson did.

This article contains spoilers for many major fantasy TV shows! For every unforgettable moment in a fantasy TV show, there are just as many controversial moments that push viewers to their breaking point. Even the most popular fantastical TV series in history have included scenes that were so polarizing that audiences stop watching the show altogether. Typically, these plot points revolve around the introduction or exit of characters, as this can dramatically alter the series' dynamic and be devastating to witness. TV deaths often spark outrage when viewers feel that the character didn't deserve to be killed off and still had more to contribute.
There are many fantasy TV scenes that make no sense, but this is more excusable, as the complex magic systems and world-building in speculative fiction shows can become confusing. However, when a series makes a concrete and avoidable choice that alienates audience members, it's much more difficult to accept this.

Hollywood is the entertainment capital of the world of entertainment and for many, it is a lifelong dream to make it in the cutthroat world of Tinseltown. Even though it is hard to say relevant for it requires an unprecedented amount of dedication, resilience, and hard work, the fame, acclaim, and money make it all worth it in the end. So, even though it is hard to reach the top, some would literally make a deal with the devil to remain in the game.

Game of Thrones fandom has never shied away from voicing their opinions to make the series better than it already is. They have scrutinized everything from character arcs to costume choices, and the showrunners were generous enough to incorporate a few, but George R.R. Martin wasn’t one to push detailed changes on the actors.

George R.R. Martin’s original plan for A Song of Ice and Fire contained many scenes that we never witnessed in the novels and the television series, one of which included a duel between two prominent characters from Game of Thrones. Fans would surely feel robbed of the opportunity after they learn that Joffrey Baratheon and Robb Stark were planned to go against each other.

The deaths of these characters, which we have seen in the show, were very different from the initial plan; although, it’s fair to say that their demise in the series was far more brutal and memorable than in the outline.

It’s always exciting when a TV show takes a massive risk that really pays off, but it can be insanely frustrating when these surprising writing decisions fall flat on their face. While huge twists, impulsive character decisions, or unusual storytelling choices can keep things interesting, they also have the potential to alienate audiences and lead to storylines that the writers opt to quietly discard rather than continue telling an unpopular plot. This has been a problem across comedy, drama, and even fantasy series that have tried something new with their storyline, only to have viewers flat-out reject the risk.
Many of the best TV shows of all time have taken massive risks, only for them to not work out and have to backtrack on their storylines. This has seen previously deceased characters inexplicably return to life, established backstories being badly rewritten, or even final seasons that ruined the legacy...

Deaths in Game of Thrones are always violent and upsetting, but there’s probably one character’s demise that ended up being celebrated by many, instead of being mourned. The marriage of Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell became iconic and unforgettable because it also signaled the end of the king’s reign.

The wedding celebration turned out to be a tragedy, with Joffrey seemingly choking on his food until he turned purple and eventually dying due to poisoning. This event, as satisfying as it was for many, was not merely George R.R. Martin’s whim to kill off the much-hated king – it was based on a real-life story.

Rory McCann left his mark in people’s hearts with his dynamic performance in Game of Thrones. Adapted from George R.R. Fans have spent years hating or loving a character only for the story to switch the narrative entirely with delicate precision to not take away either their good or bad parts. Such a character was Rory McCann’s Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound.
Although initially introduced almost as a villain, he became a fan favorite as the story progressed over the years. However, he almost did not land the job until George R.R. Martin himself intervened for him.

Reign of Fire used dragons to spark an apocalypse in the UK, making it one of the wildest movies of the 21st century. Reign of Fire merges the fantasy and post-apocalyptic genres by featuring several tropes of each, with a small group of survivors living a bleak existence that gets threatened every so often by enormous dragons. Its unusual approach to the fantasy genre makes Reign of Fire one of the best dragon movies of all time. However, despite its interesting premise and star-packed cast, the movie did not impress critics.

Exclusive: The first trailer for European crime drama Safe Harbor is here and it delivers on writer and showrunner Mark Williams aim to ensure viewers get a bang for their buck. “It was important that I blow stuff up because I just like doing that, and also to make sure that stakes are high enough that it feels elevated,” the Ozark co-creator tells Deadline of his new show.
He adds: “It was an opportunity for me to try something a little bit different, to try to bring what I learned from my past experiences to Europe and to do something more global minded – an entertaining show that could reach wide audiences but do it in a location that was a little less familiar, to me anyway.”

Carrying on Game of Thrones’ tragic legacy, House of the Dragon portrayed a gruesome death for one of the most important characters in the series. Fans still vividly remember the treatment Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen got in the story during and after her death.

Pertaining to the same theme, her ancestor Rhaenys Targaryen met a pretty gruesome end in Season 2 of House of the Dragon. Fascinatingly, there are some hard-to-ignore similarities in their tragic demise, although the premises were completely different. And even more shocking was the fact that none of them got a funeral or remembrance scene by their most loved ones.

There’s something magnetic about villains. They don’t always need capes or an army of henchmen to make an impact—sometimes all they need is a twisted sense of power and a sharp wit. Well, think about it—when you hear the name Joffrey Baratheon, what comes to mind? We all know the answer: a truly loathsome character, played by Jack Gleeson in Game of Thrones, who made cruelty look disturbingly easy.

And yet, no one could deny how compelling he was. He was vile, but he commanded attention, and his sheer abhorrence made the show that much more gripping. Well, step into 1923, the prequel to Yellowstone, where we meet another villain who charms us in the same way. Meet Donald Whitfield, portrayed by the legendary Timothy Dalton.
But for fans, Dalton’s portrayal of the villain shouldn’t rely on gratuitous scenes of violence to prove his worth.

It’s not always easy to portray a character for whom the world loves you. Jack Gleeson found hatred from the entire world for his role as Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones. Tom Cavanagh found worldwide fame for his portrayal of Wells on the iconic CW show The Flash.

However, Cavanagh didn’t just play one character in the show as his character of Wells turned out to be a different persona entirely. The actor also portrayed the villainous role of Reverse-Flash for which he loved the show!
Why Tom Cavanagh Loved The Flash
For obvious reasons, the world fell in love with Grant Gustin’s The Flash which ran for 9 seasons. From some iconic storylines, character arcs, and a plethora of cinematic scenes, The Flash reached unprecedented levels of fame for a TV show.

Monica Bellucci is an icon in more ways than one. Turning from a model into an actress is not a small feat. However, she managed to do it and took it a step further, even being taken seriously in the field. She has had a great influence on the portrayal of women on screen, having starred in masterpieces like Malèna and Irréversible, which are at times so realistic that it is uncomfortable.

It would seem that the actress also frequently practices what she preaches, constantly being a role model to more than just her fans. In fact, Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey once confessed that Bellucci had a huge influence on how she approached her professional life and the people she interacted with.

The 39-year-old Happy Valley actor sported fake blood on his head as he filmed scenes for the upcoming House of Guinness series on Monday (November 25) in Liverpool, England.
According to Deadline, the series is “billed as an epic story inspired by The Guinness family, a European dynasty made famous by the drink they brew. Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the story reimagines the period immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the phenomenon that is Guinness.”

Game of Thrones turned a number of actors into household names. We see the likes of Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Peter Dinklage everywhere. But other Game of Thrones cast members all but disappeared after their parts ended, and we need to see them more.
Some of the cast members chose to step back from acting. Others have just taken less visible roles, or maybe haven't any that are right for them. Here are five Game of Thrones cast members we would love to see back on our screens.

The history of the Guinness family and their famous beer will be dramatized in Netflix‘s upcoming series House of Guinness. From the creator of Peaky Blinders, Anthony Boyle, Jack Gleeson, and James Norton lead the drama about the Guinness factory and the family legacy. Ahead of the premiere of another Irish historical drama, Say Nothing, Boyle told TV Insider that House of Guinness is in its last three weeks of filming. Speaking from their filming location of Manchester, England, Boyle said, “I’m filming House of Guinness, about the Guinness family in the 1860s. That’s what this mustache is about. It’s not a mental breakdown. We’re in the last three weeks, and then I’m going back to sunny Belfast to enjoy Christmas.” Here’s a breakdown of all the latest news about the limited series while we wait for new updates on its release. Prime Video's "Tomb Raider" series has seemingly found its Lara Croft in "Game of Thrones" veteran Sophie Turner, according to a report from Deadline.
At the end of October, the same outlet released an initial exclusive saying that Turner was a top choice to play the titular tomb raider alongside Lucy Boynton, with Emma Corrin ("The Crown") and Mackenzie Davis ("Station Eleven") also potentially in the running. Now, it seems as if the show, which is being spearheaded by "Fleabag" creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, may have settled on its lead actor.
If this comes to fruition, Turner certainly has big shoes to fill — she would join Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the only other two performers to play Lara Croft in live-action. It's important to make this abundantly clear: the report says that Turner is "in negotiations," so this bit of casting still isn't official just yet. I...

Major television deaths are almost always sad, but they're especially devastating when viewers barely get to spend time with the character in question. While the death of a longtime favorite dramatically impacts the show and its audience, the demise of smaller players can hit just as hard.
This is especially true when they've made a good impression, igniting hopes that they'll take on a more prominent role in the story. In some cases, they're met with an early end instead, leaving viewers to wonder what their character arc could have looked like if they'd lasted longer than a handful of episodes.
Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
Game of Thrones' Syrio Forel is the perfect example of a fan-favorite character who makes an impression in just a few episodes. Syrio is introduced in season 1's "Lord Snow," when Ned tasks him with training Arya in the art of swordplay.

The fantasy genre shines on television, as the episodic nature of TV shows allows for plenty of time to focus on world-building and magic systems while still providing character development. However, all the moving parts and expectations surrounding fantasy TV series make it difficult for a show to hit the mark in every aspect of the story. Common issues arise with fantasy TV shows that continue for too long, running out of ideas and growing repetitive before the finale. In a perfect show, there can't be any major problems or too many moments that make viewers quit the series.
Many of the best fantasy TV shows of the 2020s are almost perfect and could prove themselves to be the best of the 21st century before their stories end. More often than not, great fantasy shows are based on books, giving the seasons structure and providing a strong storyline for the script.

King Aegon II Targaryen is, on the surface, House of the Dragon's equivalent of King Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones. Both are rulers who come to the throne at a young age after the death of a father who didn't show a huge amount of interest in them, both are far too immature, spoiled, and ill-prepared to hold such a position, and both are capable of acts of great depravity and cruelty that rival some of the worst kings from throughout Game of Thrones history.
Joffrey, of course, is one of the most hated characters in TV history, brought brilliantly to life by Jack Gleeson as part of Game of Thrones' cast. Aegon, who in House of the Dragon's own cast was played by Ty Tennant and then (and still) Tom Glynn-Carney, hasn't reached the same rage-inducing, fist-through-the-tv levels of loathsome. That speaks to just how despicable Joffrey was,...

"Game of Thrones" came to an end in May of 2019 — enraging fans with its lackluster final season — but people are still asking its stars, years later, if they'd consider returning to Westeros somehow. The latest "Game of Thrones" veteran to answer this question? Sophie Turner — who made her industry debut playing Sansa Stark, a shrewd strategist and eldest daughter of the powerful Northern family House Stark.
While speaking to Variety about her newest project "Joan," interviewer K.J. Yossman brought up the show that made Turner famous, asking, "Could we ever see the return of Sansa Stark?" Turner basically said no, but also admitted she's curious about how the character would be faring today.
"Maybe," Turner said. "I mean, it would have to be the exact same cast and the exact same crew otherwise I wouldn't go back and that would just be season 9, and I don't think we're going to do a season 9, but,...

Jack Gleeson appeared on Game of Thrones for four seasons as boy king Joffrey Baratheon, a character so vile and loathsome that fans universally cheered when he was poisoned to death at his own wedding. Gleeson became famous off the back of that role, but being best known as a preening, sadistic jackass probably isn't the kind of famous most of us would like, which might be part of the reason Gleeson laid low for a while after he exited the series. We can only imagine the kinds of asshole roles he was being offered.
Now that Game of Thrones has been over for years, Gleeson is getting back into the acting game, which is good news for us because he's a talented guy. He'll appear in the second season of The Sandman next year, and has also joined the cast of Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight's new show House of Guinness,...

Fantasy TV shows can change quickly, and when big plot twists and narrative changes are written into the story, they have a major impact. The magic systems and rules of the realities that these fantastical worlds exist in allow the writers and creators to experiment with story and character dynamics, leading to episodes that change everything for the series. These episodes typically incorporate a tone shift and switch the show's focus to a new set of character dynamics. Altering a series so drastically can either save and prolong its run or be the beginning of the end for the show.
The fantasy TV shows that deserved more seasons rarely get the chance to reinvent themselves and adapt to significant change. However, a long-running series must quickly adjust when actors decide to leave the show or a detailed story arc has reached its end. While it can be daunting to take...

While it is common to witness actors' careers gradually slip away, theres something admirable about the performers who make the conscious choice to take a step back from Hollywood at the height of their popularity. This choice shows real integrity, as the actors know in their hearts that they are ready to call it quits despite viewers' desire for more. This can be down to a child star wishing to experience a new life, longtime acting legends having nothing else to give, or performers taking a planned hiatus they enjoyed so much that it turned into a retirement.
Some of the greatest actors of all time have willingly cut their careers short and said goodbye when their popularity was at an all-time high. These decisions are nothing new in Hollywood, as everyone from icons of the silent era to 1990s child stars have felt the urge to explore life away...

There's political unrest in Nmenor in The Rings of Power season 2, and this storyline establishes the Amazon series' version of Joffrey Baratheon. Joffrey was one of the most-hated figures on television when Game of Thrones was airing, and Jack Gleeson's character more than earned this reputation. Joffrey tormented innocent people and abused his power throughout Game of Thrones' first four seasons. Viewers couldn't wait for his character to die, and they had a lot of fun hating him while he still sat on the Iron Throne.
The Lord of the Rings never featured a villain like this before, but The Rings of Power establishes the franchise's Joffrey Baratheon. Season 2 highlights a character who's similar to Joffrey in terms of personality, and he's also likely to meet a tragic and early end. This demise is one that viewers will probably root for, especially after his actions in The Rings of...

The Sandman season 2 cast brings back most of the major characters from the first season, while adding some important new names and faces to continue the Neil Gaiman storyline into its next chapter. Originally released in 1996, The Sandman comics told the story of Morpheus, also known as Dream, the ruler of the Dreaming. As one of the Endless, Dream is the being responsible for bringing dreams and nightmares into the minds of humans the true figure behind the folk tales of the Sandman. However, when a wizard captures him, he ends up imprisoned for 70 years, eventually escaping to find his entire realm has fallen to ruins.
The first season of the Netflix adaptation saw Morpheus reclaiming the dreams and nightmares that escaped to the real world, including the Corinthian, who became a serial killer. The story of Sandman season 2 will encompass The Seasons of Mists, which is one of the...

Netflix revealed a behind-the-scenes first look on Thursday of Season 2 of “The Sandman,” the ongoing adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s DC graphic novel series, as part of the streamer’s Geeked Week promotional efforts. The season will involve the “Season of Mists” storyline from the comics, in which Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie) abdicates control of Hell and presents Morpheus, aka Dream (Tom Sturridge), with the key to its gates, causing many immortals to try to convince Morpheus to give the key to them.

For years now, rumors have swirled that two "Game of Thrones" stars — Lena Headey, who played Cersei Lannister, and Jerome Flynn, who played Bronn — wouldn't appear together on-screen after a terrible breakup in real life. So is it true?
It's not, according to Flynn himself. During a 2019 appearance at Con of Thrones in Nashville, Flynn addressed the rumors and said that, contrary to what he'd heard, the two were on fine terms. "We were actually in the same scene together, and the last time I saw Lena we were speaking, so I wouldn't believe everything you read, and like I said, [the media] can get pretty desperate for stories," Flynn said before praising Headey: "Lena is a wonderful person and a wonderful actress. I think the world of her."
So why did these rumors surface in the first place? During the season 7 finale of "Game of Thrones," titled "The Dragon and the Wolf,...

According to one of The Sandmans newest cast members, the world of Netflixs hit fantasy is set to expand exponentially. Continuing the story of Tom Sturridges Dream and his fellow Endless, The Sandman season 2 is set to introduce several new cast members, including Game of Thrones alum Jack Gleeson as the mischievous Puck and Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) as the drunken fairy Cluracan. Other additions to The Sandman cast include Steve Coogan, Indya Moore, Ann Skelly, Ruairi O'Connor, Freddie Fox, Laurence O'Fuarain, Adrian Lester, Barry Sloane, Esm Creed-Miles and Clive Russell.
Speaking with Collider, Booth spoke about his fun new fairy character and his onscreen sister Nuala, played by Skelly. Admitting that the secrecy surrounding the project prevents him from revealing too much about The Sandman season 2, the actor did suggest that the shows intricate world-building has levelled up from season 1. The world thanked the Gods when Joffrey Baratheon, the incorrigible teen King, died in the fourth season of Game of Thrones. The son of Cersei Lannister became king when Robert Baratheon died after a hunting accident and began his tyranny in King’s Landing. He was one of the most unpopular kings and was despised by his own uncles.
While no fan would wish for this to happen, Joffrey could have survived if his grandfather had planned things a bit differently. A fan theory suggested that if Tywin Lannister had gotten Sansa Stark to marry Tommen Baratheon instead of Tyrion, it might have prevented the teen king’s death.

Joffrey's sadism evolved over Game of Thrones, culminating in Ros' brutal death. Ros' death by Joffrey was horrific, serving as a glimpse into the unrestrained cruelty he could have become. Actor Jack Gleeson received death threats for playing Joffrey so well, highlighting the impact of his performance.
Ros' Game of Thrones death may have occured early on in the show, but it's still widely discussed since few GoT deaths are as brutal as when Joffrey killed Ros. Joffrey emerged as a villain during season 1 of the HBO series, but the lingering influence of his parents suppressed his underlying sadism. Following Robert Baratheon's death, Joffrey's rise to power emboldened him, and during subsequent seasons, his cruelty went unchecked. Joffrey's focus became lashing out at the oppressed and undeserving, with Ros's death one of the most harrowing in the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones.

This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2 episode 7.
One of the great amusements in reading George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series comes from hearing 10, 11, and 12-year-old boys constantly assert that they are “almost a man grown.” Children indeed grow up quickly in the world of Game of Thrones … particularly the children of nobility.
Since the political system of inherited power in Westeros doesn’t allow for silly things like “voting” or “merit,” kids are often thrust into ruling roles they are not yet prepared for. Oftentimes this leads to disastrous results like with Game of Thrones‘ King Joffrey I Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), King Tommen I Baratheon (Dean-Charles Chapman), and Lord Robert/Robin Arryn (Lino Facioli). Even House of the Dragon‘s college-aged King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom-Glynn Carney) wasn’t doing too hot with the big job…and that was before he went up in flames.
