(1989-90) she appeared on Broadway as Portia in The Merchant of Venice with Dustin Hoffman. She won the Tony for Best Actress.

(1993) She acted in the Peter Hall Company production of Aristophanes' play, "Lysistrata," at the Old Vic Theatre in London, England with Serena Evans, Diane Bull, John Kane, and Timothy Davies in the cast.

(2003) She acted in the Oxford Stage Company Tour of Anton Chekhov's play, "The Cherry Orchard," with Trevor Fox, Mairead McKinley, Brian Protheroe, Jemma Powell, and Abigail McKern in the cast. Dominic Dromgoole was director.

(December 1986) She acted in Sharman MacDonald's play, "When I was a Girl I Used to Scream and Shout," at the Whitehall Theatre in Whitehall, London, England with Sheila Reid, Julie Walters, and John Gordon Sinclair in the cast. Simon Stoke was director.

(2009) She played Gertrude opposite Jude Law in Michael Grandage's Production of Hamlet in New York
