Joe Taslim's Sub-Zero being resurrected as Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 2 would fix the most disappointing aspect of the 2021 reboot movie. The story of the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot follows characters like Sonya Blade, Jax, Kano, and the newly introduced Cole Young, as they take refuge in the temple of Lord Raiden and try to unlock their powers. While the majority of the film follows Cole Young, 2021's Mortal Kombat begins with a fight between longtime rivals Scorpion and Sub-Zero, who are the two most popular characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise.
Since they are the two most recognizable characters in the franchise, it is a relief that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are once again being included in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2. However, Scorpion kills Sub-Zero at the end of 2021's Mortal Kombat, which complicates his return. The cast of Mortal Kombat 2 will include Karl Urban, Lewis Tan,...

The acclaimed medical drama starring Zachary Quinto recently concluded its first season earlier this month.
It’s a wrap on the first season of NBC’s “Brilliant Minds,” its brainy new medical drama starring Zachary Quinto, which following a brief December hiatus recently aired its two-episode finale. Inspired by the works of Oliver Sacks, “Brilliant Minds” stars Quinto in his first main live-action TV series role since “Nosferatu” by another name, AMC’s “NOS4A2.”
The “Star Trek” star plays Dr. Oliver Wolf, an eccentric and gifted neurologist with facial blindness whose condition gives him a unique perspective on care. Alongside his brilliant team of interns at Bronx General and through unconventional methods, he takes on some of the world’s most puzzling psychological and neurological cases.
It’s still uncertain if there will be a second season of “Brilliant Minds,” but the first season of the series has been a hit for the network.

St. Denis Medical broke through in a big way when it debuted on NBC in the fall, and the network issued some exciting news on Tuesday morning:
St. Denis Medical Season 2 is a go.
The mockumentary is NBC’s first scripted renewal for the 2025-26 TV season. Make of that what you will.
(NBC)
The freshman drama averages just under 4 million viewers and has a 0.5 rating in the demo, proving that the broadcast networks still have some life left.
NBC teases that the series has reached 21.4 million viewers to date, which is astounding, but it doesn’t hold much water when the network doesn’t break it down.
The Live + 7 numbers are enough to keep it on the air for several years.

The medical drama has been popular for a long time. Several of network TV's longest-running procedural series have been in the medical genre. This includes ER, and an Emmy-winning series that ran from 1994 to 2009. Overlapping partially with this time frame was Grey's Anatomy, which began in 2005. Grey's has dominated television ever since, even prompting the spinoff series Station 19. Grey's Anatomy season 21 is in its mid-season break right now, and will return in March.
While long-standing medical dramas like these have fascinated audiences, it can be even more interesting when new shows come in to shake things up in this genre. Last year, for example, saw the release of Doctor Odyssey. The Ryan Murphy-created show took a more comedic approach to the medical procedural, taking place on a luxury cruise ship with a bumbling lead who clashes with his staff. This was met with mixed results, as Doctor Odyssey...

It’s great news for fans of St. Denis Medical. The series has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
The news is arguably unsurprising, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. We love hearing about renewals, especially when it comes to a series that has performed well in the ratings and we were expecting it. It’s even better as the news comes in just four episodes into the freshman series, ahead of the winter premiere tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Arguably, NBC gave the series a good push with the timeslot. It is the first show of the night on Tuesdays, and that is a great family-friendly time for comedy shows. Night Court season 3 follows the series, and while that show hasn’t performed as well in the linear ratings, we’re still expecting a renewal.

When I say this, I say it on behalf of everyone: this year passed by like a blur. But what saved us from the turmoil of ‘life’ are great movies and TV shows that came out in 2024.

In perhaps a surprise twist that no one saw coming, video game adaptations are not complete failures anymore. Yes, we'll always have our Netflix's Resident Evil or Paramount+ Halo, but there have also been some successes.

Everyone seems mixed about next year's theatrical release of A Minecraft Movie. So much so that it seems the trailer has been better received than when the teaser dropped.
Almost everyone has heard of Minecraft but in case you haven't, the sandbox game, released in 2011, enabled players to create their own world stylized in 8-bit-like art. Over the years the game drew fans of practically all ages, spreading out into the merchandising world of toys and clothing.

Kano was a standout character in the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot movie, but he will likely be overshadowed by another popular character in Mortal Kombat 2. Josh Lawson played Kano, a smack-talking arms dealer, in the most recent Mortal Kombat movie. In addition to Lawson, the cast of 2021's Mortal Kombat includes Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Joe Taslim. Throughout the movie, Kano constantly challenged the other characters and had several one-liners that were hilarious.

Abbott Elementary revived the mockumentary sitcom genre in 2021, resulting in St. Denis Medical in 2024, and allowing the newer show to emulate one of the older series' storylines (but with its own twist). Similar to other mockumentary sitcoms, the St. Denis Medical characters are eccentric, unique, and hilarious, forming a group with great chemistry. The series takes advantage of its cast's dynamics, just like Abbott Elementary does.

Co-created by Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer, St. Denis Medical is taking a brief hiatus after airing its holiday episode, "Ho-Ho-Hollo." The series will return with season 1, episode 7 on Tuesday, January 14 at 8 p.m. Et. NBC's medical sitcom follows "an eclectic team of underfunded yet dedicated doctors, nurses and hospital staff, who want nothing more than to turn the hospital into an international medical destination." However, not everyone in the series shares the same approach to care.
Among the bunch is Bruce, a talented trauma surgeon whose lack of awareness often makes him appear harsh. Josh Lawson (Superstore), who plays the character, admits that his attitude does put him at risk of being too mean. It was important to the actor to make it known that Bruce never intends to hurt others, as his actions come from a place of ignorance rather than cruelty.

If anyone knows the potency of good sitcom chemistry, it’s probably Eric Ledgin.
The writer and producer who co-created NBC’s “St. Denis Medical” has been involved with “Superstore,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Rutherford Falls,” and recently “American Auto” — and he knows how to get an audience on his side. Sometimes it only takes a pilot, but sometimes it takes several episodes or a full season to invest in a new workplace comedy, like the hospital mockumentary which premiered in November.
The core cast includes a “Superstore” mainstay (Kaliko Kauahi), familiar TV faces, comedy legends (David Alan Greer and Wendi McLendon Covey), and a fresh face from the film world (Kahyun Kim). Viewers get to know them little-by-little, but the actors gel enough to be a driving narrative force — a welcome result for a casting process that Ledgin told IndieWire “almost killed me.” Even with talented performers coming...

The Kano character didn’t make it through the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie alive, getting taken out with a garden gnome to the eye… but that isn’t stopping Josh Lawson from reprising the role in the sequel Mortal Kombat 2. Speaking with The Direct, Lawson took a moment to hype up his character’s return, saying viewers should prepare themselves for Kano 2.0.
Director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel, working from a screenplay written by Jeremy Slater, who was the lead writer on the Marvel / Disney+ series Moon Knight. Last year, Slater said that working on the project had been “really fun so far. … I’m working really closely with the director and the studios, and the game guys, and I think—I can’t say anything about the actual story, but I think they definitely learned some lessons the last time around in terms of,...

Mortal Kombat star Josh Lawson, who plays the fan-favorite character Kano, teased the evolution of his character in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2.
While Kano started as a good guy in Mortal Kombat, he eventually turned against Earthrealm after being offered loads of money, with his true loyalty lying in greed.
While Kano thinks things will go his way, they very much do not, and he eventually ends up dying thanks to Jessica McNamee's Sonya stabbing him through the eye with a garden gnome.

St. Denis Medical airs Tuesdays on NBC and follows "an eclectic team of underfunded yet dedicated doctors, nurses and hospital staff, who want nothing more than to turn the hospital into an international medical destination." However, among the enthusiastic bunch are also characters like David Alan Grier's Dr. Ron, a seasoned surgeon who's seen it all and is over it all. In addition to Grier, the main cast includes Allison Tolman, Kaliko Kauahi, Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper, Kahyun Kim, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.

Stephen King‘s short story Autopsy Room Four was first published in the 1997 collection Six Stories – which, fitting for the title, did indeed contain six stories. That book was limited to just 1100 copies, but thankfully King ended up putting all six of the stories into different collections over the years. Autopsy Room Four was also included in the 1997 anthology Robert Bloch’s Psychos before making its way into the 2002 King collection Everything’s Eventual. In 2006, the story was adapted for the screen as an episode of the TNT King mini-series Nightmares and Dreamscapes… and now, Deadline reports that a feature film adaptation is in the works.
King has given the greenlight for the new adaptation, which is being produced by Jon Levin, who was previously an executive producer on Netflix’s King adaptation In the Tall Grass. The film will be written and directed by Ranjeet S. Marwa, whose credits include Ballistic,...

St. Denis Medical has been a breakout hit for NBC, but its overlap with beloved sitcom Superstore could prematurely stunt its growth. Both series were created by Justin Spitzer (with Eric Ledgin co-creating NBC’s modern sitcom). But while St. Denis Medical’s cast of characters is talented, some names are familiar to the point of being a double-edged sword. Having multiple actors recognizable for a single role in a different show is risky for the medical workplace mockumentary that’s still trying to set itself apart from contemporaries.
On a basic level, the small connection makes NBC’s newest comedy an appealing show for Superstore fans, but it almost guarantees that St. Denis Medical will never be more than a Superstore replacement. In that sense, the medical comedy will always live in its predecessor’s shadow. Since there’s yet to be a confirmed order for St. Denis Medical...

Spoiler alert: The following article contains mild spoilers from St. Denis Medical season 1, episode 5, "A Peanut and Caramel-Filled Miracle."
Although St. Denis Medical is off to a great start, one can't help but notice one thing missing from its plot, and it's a detail that Superstore used to its full advantage. NBC's 2024 mockumentary sitcom follows the lives of an eccentric group of doctors and nurses working at St. Denis Medical Center. Given its talented cast and reliable premise, it's no wonder why St. Denis Medical has been a hit with critics and audiences alike. However, after only five episodes, the new show has failed to establish one important storyline that made Superstore as beloved as it was.
New episodes of St. Denis Medical air on Tuesdays at 8 pm Et on NBC, while all six seasons of Superstore are available to stream on Hulu and Peacock.

In the third act of “St. Denis Medical’s” fourth episode, “Salamat You Too,” a group of nurses are on break when the head nurse, Alex (Allison Tolman), interrupts to gently reprimand their previous insubordination. Earlier, the self-identified “Filipino Mafia” didn’t like when Alex split up their “clique,” so they simply ignored her orders and stuck together. Then, in an effort to reestablish her authority, Alex walks to the dry-erase board and tries to remind her colleagues that she’s the boss — a simple declaration that nevertheless requires a six-part written breakdown (including one particularly abstract acronym).
Alex is the focal point of the scene. She’s leading the meeting — issuing directives, speaking emphatically, gesticulating wildly — and Tolman’s ability to channel relatable frustrations through passive aggressive instructions is pretty funny. But even with her talent on full display, the funniest bits take place in the background. One even starts before the scene itself,...

Abbott Elementary has revived the mockumentary genre on network TV, opening the door for other shows to join in on the fun, including one new, critically acclaimed NBC series that premiered in 2024. Quinta Brunson's ABC comedy show follows a group of teachers (and a principal and a janitor) who work at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School in Philadelphia. Similar to the mockumentaries that came before it (like The Office and Parks and Rec), Abbott Elementary is filmed like a documentary, meaning the characters often talk to or look into the camera.
Abbott Elementary has been nominated for and won many awards, including the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Quinta Brunson and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Sheryl Lee Ralph.

A series like The Office or Parks and Recreation has the ability to make the ordinary, funny. Or at least help you find the humor. Last week, we were introduced to the staff at St. Denis Medical. The cast includes the very funny David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, and Wendi McLendon-Covey. The story of an underfunded hospital, and all the problems that go with it also includes Josh Lawson, Kaliko Kauahi, Kahyun Kim, and Mekki Lepper. You can check out new episodes on Tuesday, at 8 Pm Et.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is back at the helm for the sequel Mortal Kombat 2, and while the video game adaptation wrapped production back in January after a bumpy ride through the year of the strikes, they had to go back for some reshoots this past summer. So we still don’t know when this movie is going to be released – but it shouldn’t be much longer before we’re hearing release date news, because the Motion Picture Association ratings board has seen the movie and given it a rating! Mortal Kombat 2 has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, and language. The previous movie was rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, and some crude references.

They say laughter is the best medicine, so it’s a good thing the NBC comedy machine is back up and running this week, ready to cure those Americans currently suffering from a general sense of unease. Set at an understaffed hospital in Oregon, “St. Denis Medical” is a mockumentary seemingly constructed from the well-preserved remains of some of TV’s best and brightest workplace comedies, from “Parks and Recreation” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” to “The Office” and “Abbott Elementary.”
Created by Justin Spitzer (“Superstore”) and Eric Ledgin (“American Auto”), the series — the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Peacock — features a talented cast that includes Allison Tolman, Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, and Josh Lawson. By filtering its comedy through an issue affecting millions of Americans — the country’s broken healthcare system — “St. Denis Medical” is both topical and funny, making it the awards contender to watch this weekend.

Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer's new ensemble comedy, St. Denis Medical, premiered Tuesday, November 12 on NBC. The duo is no stranger to workplace sitcoms, having previously collaborated on Superstore, which ran from 2015 to 2021. Spitzer acted as the showrunner of the America Ferrera-led series, while Ledgin served as a writer and co-executive producer. St. Denis Medical, meanwhile, follows a team of doctors and nurses who do their best to prioritize patients, despite the challenges of working at an underfunded hospital.
While the nature of hospital work is drastically different from the retail struggles of Cloud 9, the chaotic environment easily appeals to fans of Spitzer's previous shows. St. Denis Medical features a handful of alumni, but Mekki Leeper's "fish out of water" character, Matt, offers a sense of nostalgia due to the similarities he shares with Superstore's Jonah Simms. “St. Denis Medical,” a comedy that breaks away from traditional medical dramas by showing the dull side of healthcare in an Oregon hospital that doesn’t have enough money, is set to launch on NBC. The show, which starts on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Et/Pt, claims to look at medical workers’ daily problems in a documentary-style way.
Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin created the show to show the human side of healthcare, which is often ignored. Their idea came from a true story about hospital staff who tried to talk to an incompetent surgeon but were met with pushback from administrators who were worried about losing money.
Thanks to the ensemble cast, this office comedy has a lot of depth. Allison Tolman plays Alex, a kind but tired nurse, and David Alan Grier plays Ron, her cynical boss. Wendi McLendon-Covey plays Joyce, the hospital’s quick-talking executive director. The group also includes Josh Lawson,...

The world of medical TV shows is typically filled with gorgeous people swooping in to perform dangerous and daring operations as they dart from rare condition to in-office romance. That’s not “St. Denis Medical.” NBC’s latest comedy is more likely to feature two nurses feuding over a candy bar than pulling off a medical miracle.
“Part of the genesis of this show was talking about what is the day-to-day of a non-beautiful ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ or ‘ER?'” executive producer Justin Spitzer told TheWrap during the Television Critics Association’s 2024 summer tour.
For showrunner and EP Eric Ledgin, the true heart of the series made itself known when he was talking to a doctor “friend of a friend.” In the doctor’s hospital, there was a surgeon who was performing bad surgeries and endangering patients. So the staff banded together and worked to get this problematic surgeon fired.

NBC is getting back into the mockumentary game with St. Denis Medical, which gets off to a good start but fails to leave a big impression. The sitcom, created by Justin Spitzer (of Superstore fame) and Eric Ledgin, follows a group of nurses and doctors (and one administrator) who work in the ER at St. Denis Regional Medical Center in Oregon. As Wendi McLendon-Covey's Joyce says in the premiere, the ER "has some of the best doctors in the country. I mean, in Oregon... Carving out Portland because that's a big city, so, they probably... Well, you get it."

“The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Abbott Elementary” and now “St. Denis Medical,” the latest in a line of television workplace mockumentary comedies. Mentioning these previous titles shouldn’t be a knock against “St. Denis,” as it feels like it was designed to purposefully coast on these titles’ previously established rhythms, ensembles, dynamics and storylines. It’s a gentle, familiar-feeling show, and while it really works when it finds spiky, surprising and even uncomfortable ruffles to the formula, it plays pretty well when it’s just pulling it off too.
To describe the show’s world is as simple as saying “‘Modern Family’ but the family is doctors,” or “‘Scrubs’ but they’re aware of the camera.” The Emmy-nominated Allison Tolman (“Fargo”) leads an ensemble of medical professionals as our Leslie Knope-esque overachieving supervising nurse Alex.

The sitcom writer Justin Spitzer had his first script credit on “Scrubs,” the archetypal workplace comedy set in a hospital. Twenty years later, Spitzer returns to the genre with NBC’s “St. Denis Medical,” co-created with Eric Ledgin (“Rutherford Falls”). In between, Spitzer has developed a trademark approach that translates seamlessly to health care. A graduate of “The Office,” he makes shows set on the front lines of the modern economy: the sales floor of a big-box retailer (“Superstore”) or the headquarters of a flailing car manufacturer (“American Auto”). (Ledgin worked on both.) Spitzer characters don’t debate issues at length like Norman Lear ones did, but their everyday lives are unmistakably downstream of larger social and political forces.
“St. Denis Medical” is a worthy entrant in this larger project — and, therefore, a sharp break from the bro-y bonhomie of “Scrubs.” Our introduction to the namesake setting, a “safety-net hospital” in Oregon,...

Mortal Kombat 2 star Josh Lawson opens up about the unique challenge of moving from his role as the cunning villain Kano to a cocky trauma surgeon, Bruce, in NBC's upcoming sitcom St. Denis Medical. The new series debuts on the network on November 12, following the doctors of the titular fictional hospital. Back from the dead, Lawson will be returning as Kano under the direction of Simon McQuoid in the Mortal Kombat sequel, set to release in theaters on October 24, 2025.
In an interview with Screen Rant's Brandon Zachary, Lawson reflected on the stark contrast between his roles in Mortal Kombat 2 and St. Denis Medical. While the former continues an intense, martial arts-driven storyline, St. Denis Medical takes Lawson in a completely different direction alongside quirky doctors and nurses in an underfunded medical facility. Despite the projects' drastic differences, Lawson did them back-to-back. Read the full quote here:
