“The Night Agent” has upped cast members Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ward Horton and Albert Jones to series regulars for its third season. The news comes just after the Jan. 23 release of Season 2.
Per the official logline, the series follows “low level FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), whose efforts to save the president (Kari Matchett) in Season 1 earn him an opportunity to become a ‘night agent’ in Season 2. But working in the secretive organization of night action will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.”
Evans-Akingbola, who plays secret service agent Chelsea Arrington, is repped by Hamilton Hodell and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Horton, who plays governor Richard Hagan, is repped by Amplified and Innovative Artists Agency. Jones, who plays FBI deputy director Aiden Mosley, is repped by SirenSong Entertainment, Iag and Peikoff Mahan.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes one minor detail from the Season 2 finale of The Night Agent.
A popular series regular character from Season 1 of The Night Agent, Chelsea Arrington, played by Fola Evans-Akingbola, will be coming back after a season-long absence.
The Netflix action drama opted for a clean slate in Season 2 with only the lead, Gabriel Basso, who plays the titular character Peter Sutherland, and Luciane Buchanan, who plays Rose Larkin, the woman Peter was charged with protecting in Season 1, returning.
Kari Matchett, who recurred in Season 1 as President Michelle Travers, made a cameo in the Season 2 premiere and that was it for the Season 1 cast of characters around Peter and Rose until the Season 2 finale, which featured a brief cameo by Evans-Akingbola’s Chelsea.
In Season 1, Chelsea Arrington drove the B plot line parallel to Peter and Rose’s — until the two converged at the end — as an ambitious U.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of The Night Agent.]
Newly minted night agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) is back and secretly investigating the highest office in the land — but with an added twist this time around.
In the season two finale of Netflix’s smash-hit spy action thriller The Night Agent — major spoilers ahead! — Peter is able to help prevent another deadly matter of national security, but his means ultimately land him in hot water with his bosses. After thwarting an assassination plot against President Travers (Kari Matchett) at Camp David in season one, Peter’s investigation into a CIA intelligence leak in Bangkok — which leads to the tragic death of his partner, Alice (Brittany Snow) — led him back stateside to New York City, where he learns that some Iranian foreign nationals working for the United Nations came into contact with the classified information.

Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan are back in The Night Agent season 2, which just premiered on Netflix on Jan. 23. And, after their characters, Peter Sutherland and Rose Larkin, saved the day in the jaw-dropping finale in The Night Agent season 1, there aren't many cast members or characters from season 1 who return for season 2.
By my unofficial count, there are only four characters who appear in season 1 and season 2: Peter, Rose, and President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett), and one other important character that you might not have recognized.

[This story contains major spoilers from the second season of The Night Agent.]
Heading into the second season of The Night Agent — Netflix’s spy action thriller series about a low-level FBI agent who goes from manning an emergency hotline for secret agents investigating issues of classified intelligence to being one of those international agents — creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan knew he wanted to push his beloved protagonist Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) further into morally grey territory.
“In season one, things were logistically very difficult for Peter, but morally pretty easy. In season two, I want things to remain logistically difficult for Peter, but I want them morally to get more difficult,” Ryan tells The Hollywood Reporter in the interview below. “He probably had a little bit of a naïve view of what [being a Night Agent] would mean, probably felt that he could keep his morals and his moral compass intact doing it, and he learns in the course of season two that that’s not so easy.

The first season of The Night Agent was a big success for Netflix. Adapting the novel by Matthew Quirk, the series followed FBI agent Peter Sutherland as he was drawn into a massive conspiracy reaching the highest levels of the government of the United States. Thrown in alongside entrepreneur Rose Larkin, Peter leveraged his skills and his past to save the President and earn a spot as an agent in the titular secret office. The ten-episode first season also starred Hong Chau and Kari Matchett and quickly earned a second (and third) season renewal.
For season two, The Night Agent picks up almost a year after the events of the first season with Peter and Rose separated by physical distance and radio silence. When Peter is caught up on a mission involving secrets being sold to enemy nations, he is reunited with Rose to try and save the nation once again.

“I don’t know if there are any good decisions he could have made in Season 2,” Gabriel Basso admits of his Night Agent character, Peter Sutherland. That’s an understatement: In Season 1, all he was supposed to do was answer a phone and help the agent on the other end. A call from civilian Rose (Luciane Buchanan), after her aunt and uncle were attacked, threw him headfirst into a conspiracy that went all the way to the White House. After he saved the president (Kari Matchett), he was offered the job on the other side of the Night Action program (off-the-books investigations involving national security). Now, in Season 2 (January 23 on Netflix), he’s a night agent. His first mission takes him to Bangkok, Thailand, and then New York, for a threat that could wipe out Manhattan. By filming on location, “we were able to get away with more cinematic, wider,...

Despite the series being one of the most viewed on the streaming giant, I was one of the few to stand up to power by giving the first season of The Night Agent a lousy review. The series received an alarming amount of praise only because the finale finally showed some energy that the previous nine episodes sorely lacked.
However, the second season, streaming on Netflix on January 23rd, never builds on that momentum. It has less intrigue and stagnant action and still suffers from a lack of chemistry between the leads—not to mention more eye-rolling plot shifts designed to move the story along, which still do not work in The Night Agent’s second season.

Two years after Shawn Ryan’s “The Night Agent” exploded on Netflix, the action-thriller starring Gabriel Basso returns on January 23. Season 1 viewers will recall that Basso plays FBI agent Peter Sutherland, tasked with answering a mysterious phone in the White House basement that never rings — until it does.
The call from Rose (Luciane Buchanon) changes Peter’s life in more ways than one, catapulting both of them into a life-and-death chase where they lose allies daily and can’t even be sure who’s after them. Everything Peter thought he knew about his job, his employers, and the FBI itself is called into question, and somewhere in all the high-octane madness, he and Rose fall in love.
Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Netflix released the first eight minutes as a teaser, as well as the news that Season 3 is officially a go. But before diving into all that, let’s...

Ronda Cooper, who had a long career as a Canadian talent agent, including at The Characters Talent Agency for 35 years, has died. She was 77.
Cooper passed away on Jan. 1 in Toronto after a year-long battle with dementia, Characters agency president Jennifer Goldhar Gossack told The Hollywood Reporter.
Born May 1, 1947 in Toronto, Cooper first aspired to become an actress and studied at York University and then at a drama school in London, England. She returned to Toronto in 1979 and found work as a talent agent at the Penny Noble Talent Agency in her hometown and New York City. In 1986, the Characters agency founder Larry Goldhar was looking for a new agent and client and stage and TV actor Jonathan Welsh recommended Cooper.
On ringing her, Goldhar discovered Cooper had just moved back to Toronto from New York City. The two met together over lunch and a week later Cooper joined Characters.

The best Evan Peters movies and TV shows include a strong mix of great genre TV shows and both popular and critically acclaimed movie releases. He got his start as an actor in 2004 and quickly picked up a recurring television role on Invasion when he was only 17. Despite his young age, he proved himself and ended up finding a lot of success, especially on the small screen in horror and science fiction genre series.
Over his career, Peters has won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Peters also has earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor, and he is still in the prime of his career, with plenty of big roles ahead of him. In 2025, Peters joins the cast of the Tron franchise, and it remains to be seen what his career looks like as he continues.

The latest trailer for The Night Agent season 2 shows that the series will have a similar storyline to season 1, but with a significant difference. The Night Agent stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent who is pulled into a conspiracy after saving Rose Larkin, a young woman whose life is in danger after witnessing the murder of her aunt and uncle. With The Night Agent season 1 being one of Netflix's most-watched shows, it's no wonder that its second season has been highly anticipated.
There have been several theories about The Night Agent season 2, but there's still an air of mystery regarding the sophomore season, seeing as Netfflix has kept important details about the show's plot a secret. However, The Night Agent season 2's latest trailer now offers a few clues about what Peter will be up to now that he is officially part of the Night Action.

A huge amount of anticipation has been built for Netflix's action thriller The Night Agent season 2 following season 1's success. Based on The Night Agent novel by Matthew Quirk, FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) is informed by a former tech CEO named Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) that there is a mole in the upper levels of the United States government who is involved in a secret conspiracy to take down the President (Kari Matchett).

Newly minted Night Action agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) gets plenty of action in the trailer for Season 2 of Netflix hit drama series The Night Agent, which also has released new photos. He is running, jumping into a river, shooting and engaging in hand-to-hand combat in the action-packed trailer that features two more familiar faces, cyber security expert Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), Peter’s charge in Season 1 who is back by his side, as well as Kari Matchett as President Michelle Travers whose life the duo saved last season.
The trailer introduces new Season 2 heroes and villains, most notably Peter’s new Night Action boss Catherine Weaver, played by Amanda Warren. It also showcases the Season 2 locations, New York, where most of Season 2 was shot, and Thailand, and introduces the big threat in the new installment.

The Night Agent season 1 is filled with several shocking twists, including the truth about Peter Sutherland Sr. (Sebastien Robert), the White House mole, and who was behind the metro attack. The Night Agent's stellar cast is led by Gabriel Basso in the new series adapted from Matthew Quirk's best-selling novel of the same name, following an FBI agent as he uncovers a conspiracy involving top government officials. The Night Agent became one of Netflix's biggest new shows when it was released, praised by both critics and audiences for its action, plot twists, and engaging storyline.
After intercepting the bomber during the metro attack, Diane Farr (Hong Chau) gives Peter a new job answering the night action emergency line. During one of his shifts, Peter receives a call from Rose (Luciane Buchanan) that leads him to involvement in the metro bombing investigation and uncovering who the masterminds behind the attack were.

The Night Agent season 2 can improve on season 1 with more complex villains to add depth and intrigue to the story. The predictable resolution of season 1's plot leaves room for a more surprising and compelling storyline in season 2. Season 2 will feature an original story separate from the source material, potentially leading to a more creative and engaging narrative.
The Night Agent season 2 has big shoes to fill, but there's one easy way it can outdo the series' successful first season. Having two charismatic leads, FBI Special Agent Peter Sutherland (Garbiel Basso) and cybersecurity expert Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), plenty of action, and a fair share of plot twists and turns, The Night Agent rapidly became one of Netflix's most-watched titles in the early half of 2023. Between January and June, season 1 of The Night Agent reached nearly 1 billion hours viewed, warranting the hit series' near immediate renewal.

This film successfully combines the genres of robbers and superheroes, creating a captivating story with a good dystopian idea. Despite not having a huge budget, it manages to meet all expectations and goals. The combination and dystopian concept make it an interesting watch.

Fargo season 5, episode 8 confirms that Linda is dead, as Dot's revelation to Gator and Roy's threat of burying Dot next to Linda suggests. Warning: This article contains spoilers for season 5 of Fargo.
Linda's character in season 5 of Fargo has a lasting impact and helps move the story along. Linda's role in the show provides valuable context to Dot's trauma and personal development. The actress who plays her is well known for her roles in Covert Affairs and The Night Agent,.
Though Fargo has a revolving door of intriguing characters, season 5's introduction of Linda managed to still be impactful and part of that is due to the actress who plays her. Based on the 1996 film of the same name, the anthology series follows characters who get involved with murder investigations in small towns. This article contains spoilers for Fargo season 5 episode 7 “Linda.”
FX’s Fargo is not shy about indulging one-off sojourns into the realm of the fantastical. The show’s second season featured a UFO deus ex machina while season 3 took time out for a trip to a celestial bowling alley that might be the afterlife or at least the soundstage for The Big Lebowski.
Fargo‘s latest dip into the dreamworld, however, is one of its most impressive yet. Fargo season 5 episode 7 “Linda” finds our hero Dorothy “Dot” Lyon (Juno Temple) visiting the mysterious Camp Utopia to find her abusive ex-husband Roy Tillman’s (Jon Hamm) first wife Linda (Kari Matchett). In the process she stumbles into a whole bunch of other Lindas (who greet with one another with a cheerful “Hi Linda” like in Barbie) … and some puppets.
At first glance, the proceedings come across as reality – albeit a strange reality.

Spoilers for "The Night Agent" follow.
"The Night Agent" proved to be a success for Netflix, so it's no surprise the platform has renewed the political thriller for a second season. Adapted from a novel by Matthew Quirk, "The Night Agent" follows FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso). He works in the White House's basement, and every shift, he sits next to a phone, waiting for calls from "Night Action" agents in case of an emergency. Peter's first call comes from Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), a niece of two Night Action agents. Rose narrowly escaped a home invasion that claimed her aunt and uncle's lives; she and Peter get thrown into a conspiracy that goes up to the Oval Office.

So, it’s not too surprising that the streamer quickly greenlit the Shawn Ryan-created series for a second season.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Fathers,” the Season 1 finale of “The Night Agent,” now streaming on Netflix.
There goes the administration.
After a season spent hunting down –– and being hunted by –– an elaborate assassination plot against President Travers (Kari Matchett) from within her own office, beaten and bruised FBI Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) thwarts disaster at Camp David in the season finale of Netflix’s “The Night Agent.” But the high body count left in the wake might make it hard to run the country.
The directors of the Secret Service and the FBI are dead. Dozens of agents are also dead and/or guilty of treason in the domestic terrorist attack that would have seen Vice President Ashley Redfield (Christopher Shyer) sworn in as Commander in Chief. Essentially a humbler, grungier indie “X-Men” without the same dependence on splashy effects, “Code 8” is a solid genre effort from director Jeff Chan. Spun off from his prior short of the same name, the crowdfunded effort is resourceful and polished on a tight budget. Its fast-paced progress has enough appeal to suggest a possible franchise, even if this potential kickoff is held back from becoming something more memorable by the general familiarity of the story and character concepts. Starring cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell (both best known for their respective CW series “The Flash” and “Arrow”), the Canadian sci-fi action film opened Dec. 6 on a single Los Angeles screen, expanding to other U.S. cities as well as streaming on Dec. 13.

Vertical Entertainment has followed-up the teaser trailer last week with the launch of the full trailer for this indie sci-fi feature titled Code 8, an intriguing mix of genre ideas involving futuristic robot cops and people with special powers. Code 8 is a feature adaptation of Jeff Chan's own short film also titled Code 8 (watch here). Starring Robbie Amell, along with Stephen Amell, Greg Bryk, Kari Matchett, Sung Kang, Alex Mallari Jr., Peter Outerbridge, and Shaun Benson. This is a solid feature debut from an up-and-coming filmmaker with some cool ideas, and if any of this intrigues you, you definitely need to give it a look when it arrives this fall. Here's the full-length official trailer for Jeff Chan's Code 8,...

Tagline: "Fear is the Most Dangerous Power." Code 8 is a sci-fi feature film. A sequel to a short film, this feature focuses on a growing population with supernatural abilities. Forced to the fringes of society, these super-humans struggle to survive and are persecuted for their powers. Developed by director Jeff Chan, this title stars: Robbie Amell (Arq), Stephen Amell ("Arrow"), Greg Bryk (Saw V), Kari Matchett, Sung Kang, Alex Mallari Jr., Peter Outerbridge, and Shaun Benson. The film's first trailer debuted late last week and can be found here. This title was funded through a Kickstarter run. Over two million dollars were raised, vastly exceeding the filmmaker's expectations. Shooting began on the film in the Summer of 2017. And, the results look impressive from what can be seen in the trailer below. Vertical Entertainment has already set December 13th as the film's release date. On this date, Code 8 will be available on Digital platforms.

I just saw this film at the Sitges Film Festival a few weeks ago, and it's good but not nearly as good as it should be. Some cool ideas and strong visuals, but a lackluster story. It's still worth a look - considering it is an original sci-fi.

Covert Affairs’ Kari Matchett and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer are to star in Canadian spy drama Fortunate Son. The series, which is set in the social and political chaos of the late 1960s, is produced by NBCUniversal-backed Lark Productions and Wynonna Earp producer Seven24Films for CBC.
Matchett, who has also featured on The Good Doctor, plays Ruby Howard, an American who fled to Canada as a fugitive from the law. Set in the chaos of the late 1960s, the Vietnam War and the anti-war protest movement, Ruby helps smuggle Vietnam War deserters and draft evaders across the Canadian border. What she doesn’t know is how these actions will unfold and who is watching her. Sally Hawkins gives a winning performance as Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis in the biopic Maudie. Despite suffering from crippling arthritis since childhood, Maud is determined to paint and live life on her own terms, in director Aisling Walsh’s inspiring but frank portrait of a self-taught artist in rural Nova Scotia. Against all expectations, Maud captures the attention of the art world, and achieves fame for her appealing colorful art. The remarkable story is fascinating but much of the film’s appeal comes from Sally Hawkins’ delightful performance as the woman artist who overcame so many obstacles.

Maudie director Aisling Walsh on Maud Lewis: "She found her freedom in painting." Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze
In my conversation with Aisling Walsh in New York, we discussed Everett (Ethan Hawke) and Maud Lewis's (Sally Hawkins) house in Maudie, her paintings, being stuck in the Thirties, Kari Matchett as a Katharine Hepburn sounding, Peggy Guggenheim-like character named Sandra, transcending time, and what it means to be labeled a Folk Artist.
The small hovel without running water or electricity (that stands now in a museum in Halifax, Nova Scotia) was Everett and Maud Lewis's home their entire life together. Without having to rely on sentimental escapism, one could say that these "odd socks" make more sense as a couple than much of what is presented as becoming a relationship in most mainstream Hollywood fare.

Filming to continue in Toronto until mid-July 2017; Elevation targets 2019 Canada release.
Principal photography has commenced on Jeff Chan’s sci-fi thriller Code 8.
Code 8 is set in a world where four percent of the population is born with supernatural powers and face discrimination and a life of privation. The film centres on a young man with abilities who clashes with a militarised police unit after committing a series of crimes.
Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell star alongside Sung Kang, Kari Matchett, Greg Bryk, and Aaron Abrams.
The film is based on Chan’s short film of the same name that inspired an Indiegogo campaign in 2016 that exceeded its initial $200,000 goal by raising more than $1.7m, allowing for production to begin on the feature version.
