On the heels of the movie even being revealed to be in the works, a new report about the secret Predator movie says it will break a franchise tradition.

i09 has published a report right after 20th Century Studios' boss Steve Asbell offered a slew of updates on the studio's franchise slate, targeted on the secret Predator movie in the works. Sources report that the project is "in fact an animated feature", breaking the franchise's tradition going back to the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led original in which every movie has been a live-action production. Furthermore, the publication reports that the movie will be something of an anthology, "telling three separate stories of Predators fighting warriors in multiple eras."

The sources would go on to report that the stories in the secret Predator movie will have one that is "potentially pirates", one that "is potentially samurai" and a reported third timeline that has yet to be revealed.

The long-awaited movie adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot from director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) is now available to stream on Max, unleashing a stylish vampire outbreak without much in the way of story. It turns out that there was a much longer cut of the film that Dauberman ultimately trimmed down for a leaner runtime.

The filmmaker revealed in a recent interview with Den of Geek, “My first cut was about three hours. There’s a lot left out. My first draft of the script is 180-odd pages or something because you’re trying to include everything. And a lot of it has to do with a lot of the secondary characters and stuff that I spoke about. So it was sad to see that stuff go, but it’s like a necessary evil.”

The Friday the 13th universe is expanding, though not in the way we've all been hoping for, at least not yet. No, there aren't any new movies on the way, but Horror, Inc. exclusively revealed their plans to IGN last week to launch the "Jason Universe," which will include immersive experiences, games, merchandise, and other entertainment.

While movies are still not on the table due to the ongoing entanglement involving the rights, television is still in play. Peacock and A24 are continuing to develop a Friday the 13th prequel series titled Crystal Lake, previously involving Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller, though he recently exited the series.

In 2022, Fuller discussed the movie rights issue, telling Fangoria that "they are tied up at New Line and are super, super messy and probably won't be untangled anytime soon."

Can you believe it’s already been fifteen years since 2009? I feel older than Jason’s mother’s head. But never mind all that. We’re going to look into the past in celebratory fashion today and take a month-to-month look at what the world of horror looked like back in 2009.

The dreaded month of January kicked things off in usual January fashion with a forgettable title, The Unborn. A David S. Goyer picture that’s not very memorable but managed to be the sixth most successful horror film of 2009 domestically, raking in over $42 million at the box office.

Right behind it on the calendar was Patrick Lussier’s My Bloody Valentine 3D starring “Supernatural” actor Jensen Ackles. This slasher remake took the idea of January horror and embraced it, making a silly and gory slasher that was the world’s first R-rated film to ever use Real3D technology.

Cursed was a very fitting title for the 2005 werewolf movie that reteamed Scream director Wes Craven with screenwriter Kevin Williamson, because studio meddling ensured that the project – which had a promising start – ended up being a mess that bombed at the box office. The journey to the screen began in the year 2000, when Williamson wrote a script about a New York-based serial killer who discovers he’s a werewolf. Dimension decided to have Sean Hood and Tony Gayton do rewrites, turning Cursed into the story of a late night TV associate producer who gets attacked by a werewolf after a car crash on Mulholland Drive. A new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series has just been released, and in this one we’re taking a look at a movie that was supposed to be a happy reunion for Scream director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson… but it turned into a total mess. Lion-Girl was written and directed by Kurando Mitsutake based on characters created by famed manga author and artist Go-Nagai who also created Devilman, Cutie Honey and Mazinger Z among others and produced by Toei Video. If that sounds like a recipe for a whole lot of weirdness, then you’re right.

The film opens in a Tokyo bathhouse with several nude people staring at a young woman named Botan. After, she refuses to be scared by their threats, they begin to transform. They sprout horns and fangs, their faces become brightly coloured kabuki masks as they snarl in anger. A glowing tattoo appears on her back as she turns to face them.

At which point Lion-Girl goes into exposition mode as the viewer learns how...

RoboCop: Rogue City arrives later this week, and in anticipation, Teyon has released a new live-action trailer for Rogue City that sees RoboCop ride out once again into the streets of Old Detroit to combat crime. The trailer is admittedly a bit more lighthearted than the grittiness that one would expect from RoboCop, and it’s not Derek Mears under the helmet this time or Peter Weller, but hey, it’s fun!

The story for Rogue City takes place between RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3, and sees RoboCop (played once again by Peter Weller) caught up in the gang violence in Old Detroit. Making matters worse is that the gangs have decided to throw in with the “new guy in town”. Previously unknown to the police, this new figure is behind a rash of disappearances, a variety of brazen crimes of all kinds and the trafficking of Nuke.

Just as the "Halloween" movies all take place in the fall, the "Friday the 13th" movies are summer films.

For the most part, all 12 extant "Friday" movies take place around Camp Crystal Lake, an overnight camp in the woods of New Jersey. Jason Voorhees, the campfire story goes, was left to drown in Crystal Lake as a boy when the counselors tasked with watching him were distracted by their libidos. He's now back to revenge-kill all horny teens. Once the summer is over, however,  the campfire story ends.

However, Friday the 13th -- that is, the famously unlucky calendar date -- doesn't always fall in the summer. 2021 had a Friday the 13th in August, but the next one wouldn't arrive until May of 2022. 2023 was strange in that it had a Friday the 13th in both January and in October.

What defines a horror movie slasher killer? Not all of them speak, so we can't talk about voice. Not all of them stick to a single signature weapon, so we have to find another avenue. The easy answer is the mask, but even that changes -- Jason Voorhees wore a bag over his head before he found that hockey mask in his franchise's third film. So maybe it comes down to the walk. Jason is a lumbering beast, stumbling forward and easily distracted, the bull in the china shop. Freddy Krueger is a demonic spider monkey, his elastic limbs flapping to the winds as he pursues his prey.

And Michael Myers, aka the Shape, of "Halloween" fame? He's the shark from "Jaws" in human form: a merciless predator who simply cannot be deterred. He moves like he has a plan, a merciless void powered by an alien intelligence. Jason acts on instinct.

Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). It’s not even October, but Massachusetts is already being spoiled with horror events. A mere week after Silver Scream Con took place in Danvers, Terror Con slashed into the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough on September 15-17.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the horror-comedy sitcom “Holliston,” which aired for two seasons on the now-defunct FEARnet in 2012 and 2013.

Adam Green and Joe Lynch are two filmmakers and genuine horror fans who have given their fellow horror fans so much over the years, including some great movies like Mayhem, the Hatchet franchise, and Frozen, as well as the upcoming Suitable Flesh. Among their many contributions to the genre was their horror sitcom, “Holliston.”

The best way to describe the series for the uninitiated would be if “Spaced” had a head on collision with “Friends” and was re-attached into a weird, funny monster. Originally premiering as the first original series on the now defunct FEARnet in 2012, “Holliston” is set in the small town of Holliston, Massachusetts, and stars Adam Green as “Adam” and Joe Lynch as “Joe.” Both stars play fictional versions of themselves that are best friends and roommates.

It was announced earlier this year that a brand new Swamp Thing horror movie is on DC’s slate of upcoming projects, said to “investigate the dark origins of Swamp Thing.” James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) soon became attached to direct for WB/DC, and Mangold provides an update in a new chat with Variety.

During the chat, Mangold stresses multiple times that he’s not interested in treating franchise installments like feature length episodes of a television series, but rather his intent as a filmmaker is to tell complete stories from beginning to end. In other words, don’t expect Mangold’s Swamp Thing to merely be a small part of much larger DC plans for the character.

Cleopatra Entertainment has secured the North American and U.K. distribution rights for Japanese superhero film “Lion-Girl.”

The film is written and directed by cult Japanese director Mitsutake Kurando (“Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf”) and based on characters created by prolific manga artist Go Nagai. The story revolves around survivors of a meteor shower who find themselves locked in a battle against each other and a group of creatures called Anoroc, monsters who hunt and kill humans to extract their life force.

The cast includes Tori Griffith as the titular Lion-Girl, Derek Mears, known for his roles in comic book adaptations such as The CW’s “Swamp Thing” series, Damian TooFeek Raven (“The Chadwick Journals”), David Sakurai (“Fantastic Beasts”), Shelby Lee Parks (“Good Trouble”), Matt Standley (“Fairyland”), and Joey Iwanaga (“Enter the Fat Dragon”).

But comic book fans know that Marvel was relatively late to the multiverse game, having been beaten to the punch several decades earlier by the DC story “The Flash of Two Worlds.”

So it was more than a little satisfying to see Gar Logan aka Beast Boy take a trip through the Red that connects all of the DC worlds in the ninth episode of Titans fourth and final season, “Dude, Where’s My Gar.” As Gar (Ryan Potter) moves through the Red, we get glimpses of various other DC properties, including Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) of Stargirl, Swamp Thing (Derek Mears) from the short-lived 2019 series, as well as he and Cyborg’s animated counterparts from Teen Titans Go!.

Dracmorda and Swanthula Boulet have announced their upcoming Halloween-inspired variety show, “Halfway to Halloween,” for fans who can’t wait until October 31 to celebrate the spooky.

The Boulet Brothers will host and produce the upcoming scripted variety show, which is set to air on AMC+, and the AMC horror streaming platform, Shudder, on April 25.

“Halfway to Halloween” will pay homage to the classic holiday variety shows, featuring scripted skits, musical performances, and guest appearances — including David Dastmalchian (“Suicide Squad”), Kevin Smith (“Clerks”), Taran Killam (“Saturday Night Live”), Matthew Lillard (“Scream”), Jorge Garcia (“Lost”), Steve Agee (“Peacemaker”), Barbara Crampton (“Chopping Mall”), Felissa Rose (“Sleepaway Camp”), Katya (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Derek Mears (“Friday the 13th”), Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek”), Kendra Onixx, Koco Caine & Melissa Befierce (“The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula”) and the Twin Temple band.

James Mangold may be bringing one of DC’s creepiest heroes to life. The “Logan” and “Ford v. Ferrari” director is reportedly in early talks to tackle “Swamp Thing,” one of the upcoming films from DC Studio’s first chapter of movies under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s command, THR first reported Wednesday.

It’s unclear whether Mangold would both write and direct the film or his exact involvement. Mangold did however seem to confirm his interest on his Twitter, via a post with a panel from the character’s comic series, drawn by co-creator Bernie Wrightson. The post was also retweeted by Gunn.

Representatives from Warner Bros. Discovery. Sources told IndieWire that Mangold is a longtime “Swamp Thing” fan who approached the new regime at DC with his idea for the film, and that he will both direct and write should the project go forward.

Announced just yesterday, a brand new Swamp Thing horror movie is on DC’s slate of upcoming projects, the new film said to “investigate the dark origins of Swamp Thing.”

The Hollywood Reporter brings us an exciting update on that project, reporting today that James Mangold (Logan) is now in talks to direct Swamp Thing for WB/DC!

“Sources say that talks are still in the early stages,” THR notes.

With James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge, a fresh new slate of upcoming DC projects was just announced today, among them a brand new feature film take on Swamp Thing!

According to Variety‘s report this afternoon, the upcoming movie will “investigate the dark origins of Swamp Thing,” with various other DC characters joining him in the film.

“This is a much more horrific film, but we’ll still have Swamp Thing interact with the other characters,” Gunn teased during the massive unveiling of the upcoming DC slate today.

Opting for a pandemic-proof fall lineup of mostly scripted acquisitions and alternative fare, the CW will launch its 2020-21 season starting next week. That makes for a compact regular season, a late spring “midseason”, a summer featuring a record number of scripted originals and a likely stable 2021-22 schedule with virtually all established CW series returning, led by hits like The Flash and Riverdale, joined by 3-4 new series.

“Right now, we’re probably going to stay the status quo down the line with everything we have because a) they’re working and b) I’d rather have a known quantity on the air than an unknown quantity,” the CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said about the network’s current plans for next season in a fluid situation because of the pandemic.
