Fantasy TV has been having a great decade, with a shocking number of amazing shows coming out in the 2020s, and some of them serving up the perfect villain. Villainy suits the fantasy genre particularly well. From the best historical fantasy TV to the dark fantasy and the satirical, this genre understands that there is something innately cartoonish about an evil demon lord taking over the world, which is often the underlying premise of a fantasy villain. World domination seems to be at the top of many villains' agendas, whether they are a Demon lord or not.
The best fantasy villain of all time, in any format, is probably the eponymous Sauron of The Lord of the Rings, but his influence has echoed down through books and movies since 1954. Some of the most powerful fantasy characters are otherworldly villains with supernatural powers,...

After 50 years creeping from the margins of popular culture into the mainstream, Dungeons & Dragons is now bigger than ever. Evolving beyond its roots as a pen-and-paper tabletop RPG (Ttrpg), D&d has inspired countless imitators, novels, movies, video games, and — most importantly — generations of storytellers and creators, who learned to broaden the scope of their imagination by playing the game.

The Legend of Vox Machina is an animated series with three finished seasons available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, with a fourth on the way. The show is based on a series of Dungeons & Dragons sessions put on by the members of Critical Role, a group of voice actors who have spun their hang-out sessions into a media empire.
Because seasons 1, 2, and 3 of The Legend of Vox Machina each covered roughly 30 live Critical Role gameplay sessions, I expect season 4 to take us through episodes 73-100 or so. The Vox Machina campaign runs for 121 episodes in total. That means the creators and voice actors of Critical Role may be planning a fifth season to round out the story, or they could pack all the remaining episodes in season 4. We know they're working on a new animated adaptation of The Mighty Nein, the campaign they played after Vox Machina was finished.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for season 3 of The Legend of Vox Machina. The Legend of Vox Machina has changed quite a bit of the story of the rag-tag adventuring party when compared to the original stream from Critical Role, but the third season introduced some major twists with ramifications that still have yet to become clear. Some of these changes in The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 have been for greater emotional impact and some have been to help the flow of the story, but either way, The Legend of Vox Machina's 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes makes it clear these were changes for the better. So far though, none have been so sweeping as the changes to how Vox Machina acquired the Plate of the Dawnmartyr.
In the original stream, Vox Machina acquired the Plate by traveling to the City of Brass, the capital of the Elemental Plane of Fire.

Amazon Prime Video's The Legend of Vox Machina has deftly adapted the Critical Role campaign throughout three seasons so far, and the role-playing fantasy series is already renewed for season 4. Based on the debut campaign of the infinitely popular Dungeons & Dragons playthrough series, Critical Role, Vox Machina follows a band of adventurers as they are tasked with saving the land of Exandria from various supernatural threats. A quintessential Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Vox Machina was also the best place for Prime Video's Critical Role franchise to start, adapting the show's most accessible story.
As was the case with the original campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina has grown and changed over the seasons, and the season 3 finale was perhaps the biggest turning point thus far. Though it diverged mightily from the campaign's story, it immediately set up a massive season 4 villain (The Whispered One), and left the characters in interesting places.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for season 3 of The Legend of Vox Machina. While the season 3 finale of The Legend of Vox Machina ended on a perfect high note that reunited the Vox Machina team, the final scene showed that a threat even greater than the Chroma Conclave is on the horizon. Perhaps more importantly, it's a threat that has been in the making ever since the end of season 1, when Sylas (Matthew Mercer) and Delilah Briarwood (Grey Griffin) died trying to summon it. While season 3 answered many burning questions left by The Legend of Vox Machina season 2, it also presented new mysteries and emotional gut punches.

The Legend of Vox Machina is currently tearing through its third season on Amazon Prime Video, and the fans are responding: the most recent installment, "Thordak's Throne," is the highest-rated episode in the show's history on IMDb, and it looks like they're going to charge full-throttle towards an exciting endgame; the final three episodes of season 3 drop tomorrow.
Vox Machina is an animated adaptation of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign played by the voice actors of Critical Role, and it has everything you'd expect from a show with that pedigree: adventure, violence, goofy jokes, dragons and more. For this TV version, the cast and crew have changed the plot around a bit so the dramatic twists hit harder, and we can't say for sure that the season 3 finale will follow the game beat for beat. They’ve faced emotional reckonings. But Vox Machina’s most memorable moment so far in its third season might be the opening scene of Season 6. You know which one we’re talking about, because if you’re anything like us, you probably haven’t stopped rewinding it. In the original Vox Machina campaign, “Scanlan’s Magnificent Mansion” existed in a pocket dimension created by Scanlan via a specific D&d spell. The group — Vex (Laura Bailey), Vax (Liam O’Brien), Keyleth (Marisha Ray), Grog (Travis Willingham), Percy (Taliesin Jaffe) and Pike (Ashley Johnson) used it as a ...

The core cast of “The Legend of Vox Machina” is pretty unique among voice actors, or actors of any stripe, really. It’s rare that an actor originates the concept for a character, lives with them for nearly a decade, improvises nearly 400 hours of material, and participates closely in the character design, scripting, and storyboarding of an animated series — all before they step into the booth to record their lines.
The Prime Video series (about a group of fantasy fuck-ups who might just be the heroes the magical land of Exandra needs) balances that wealth of experience that the “Critical Role” cast — Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham — all have with an adventuring party full of guest voices. Rachel House, Stephanie Beatriz, Gina Torres, and the late, great Lance Reddick, among others, all sub in for characters originally voiced...

The proliferation of tabletop gaming has become a godsend for entertainment. The rise of shows like Dimension 20 and The Adventure Zone helped to connect the dots between comedy and role-playing. After all, when actors and voice performers take center stage, these experiences become the ultimate manifestation of improv and off-the-cuff comedy. Basing The Legend of Vox Machina on an established series like Critical Role was a no-brainer in terms of plot.

Last year, actor Lance Reddick — famous for his roles in the John Wick movies, on The Wire, and much more — died suddenly of heart disease, cutting short a vibrant career. One of this last roles will be as the voice of the villainous dragon Thordak in the upcoming third season of The Legend of Vox Machina, based on the Dungeons & Dragons adventures from Critical Role, and the show has plans to honor him.
"I think after the first episode of the season, there's an 'In Memorium' card for him," star Sam Riegel (Scanlan) told Radio Times. "But it was such a sudden passing, we didn't have a chance to really say goodbye or anything. We've been in touch with his family, and his wife was very gracious and wanted to make sure his voice stayed in the show, and we were happy that it did and it could. It was...

The Legend of Vox Machina, based on the Dungeons & Dragons campaign put on by the thespians at Critical Role, will drop its third season next month, and excitement is high. The show has proved a fun, bloody romp that does indeed feel a little like getting together with your buddies and pretending to be elves and dwarves and archers and whatnot. It goes down easy.
On a more serious note, the third season will feature one of the final performances from actor Lance Reddick, famous for his roles in the John Wick movies and on The Wire. Reddick also voiced Thordak the Cinder King, the leader of the tyrannical band of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave. Reddick died of heart disease in March of 2023, and fans were unsure if he was in Vox Machina season 3. However, he showed up in the trailer, so now we know that he'll get...

The Legend of Vox Machina, based on a Dungeons & Dragons campaign live-streamed by the merry band of voice actors at Critical Role, is barreling into its third season. Turning Critical Role's campaign into an animated series was a natural choice; the voice actors get to do what they do best, and animation allows the story to go to all kinds of places it would be impossible to pull off in live-action. In season 3, out in October, the gang goes to hell! Watch the trailer above.
I'm not a Critical Role expert, so I'm not 100% sure if this is literally hell — there are plenty of infernal realms in the world of Dungeons & Dragons — or if it's just a fire-blasted escape. Last we checked in on the Vox Machina team, they were trying to take down the Chroma Conclave, a group of dragons terrorizing the land. Why shouldn't one of the dragons live in hell?...

“Acapulco” Lands Season 4 Renewal
Pack your bags to return to Las Colinas. Apple TV+ has ordered its hit bilingual comedy series “Acapulco” for a fourth season. The Spanish and English-language series, inspired by 2017’s “How to Be a Latin Lover,” follows Máximo Gallardo, whose dream comes true when he gets the job of a lifetime at Acapulco’s hottest resort but soon realizes that working there will be more complicated than he could’ve ever imagined.
Watch the trailer for “Acapulco” Season 3 below:
In Season 3, present-day Máximo (played by Eugenio Derbez) returned to an unrecognizable Las Colinas, while younger Máximo (Enrique Arrizon) continued “climbing up the ladder of success while potentially jeopardizing all the relationships he’s worked so hard to build.”
The cast also stars Fernando Carsa, Alcázar, Perez, Bauche, Reynoso, Raphael Alejandro, Jessica Collins, Chord Overstreet, Rafael Cebrián, Regina Orozco, Carlos Corona, Jaime Camil, Cristo Fernández, and others.

The third season of The Legend of Vox Machina is coming down the bend, and it's going to be a big one. This season will end the Chroma Conclave arc, which finds our band of misfit heroes facing down a conspiracy of dragons, and launch the franchise to new heights. "Season 3 is going to leave a mark," star Travis Willingham (Grog) told Entertainment Weekly. "It is going to test individual characters; it's going to test relationships, both familial and of a romantic variety; but it's also going to start to show the lines of division in this tight-knit family that is really starting to feel the pressure of the world and things even beyond the realm of Exandria. This is the first season where not everything is going to be the same at the end in the way that it started."

This article contains plot spoilers for Critical Role “Campaign Three: Bells Hells.”
Critical Role’s current campaign, “Bells Hells,” isn’t the first time that inner-party conflict has come up for the cast. Beuregard (Marisha Ray) and Caleb (Liam O’Brien) fought over a magical bowl in The Mighty Nein campaign. Scanlan (Sam Riegel) left Vox Machina for an entire year. But where Bells Hells stands out above the rest is just how often its zany cast of characters find themselves at odds with one another, and how both the cast and the characters handle the conflict.
Bells Hells is certainly the most eclectic group of adventurers that the Critical Role cast has portrayed, and if you’ve kept up with the show for any amount of time, you know that that means this group is really out there. There’s Fresh Cut Grass a.k.a. Fcg (Sam Riegel), an...
