When it comes to the film industry, there is no shortage of ‘nepo baby,’ short for nepotism kids who have found a place in the industry thanks to their famous parents, relatives, or friends. Over the years, several actors, directors, and more have been labeled as such by fans, having their ‘nepo baby’ tag overshadowing their work and talent.

Though Taylor Sheridan was an unheard-of name back in the day, the writer and director has swiftly made his way into the mainstream with intriguing shows like Yellowstone and Tulsa King. Today, Paramount Studios proudly boasts his work on their platform, even giving him a multi-million dollar deal to churn out similar content in the next few years as well.

When Taylor Sheridan dared to venture off the Dutton ranch with a brand new "Yellowstone" spin-off, he did so by focusing on the first journey it took to get there. "1883" was the limited series that saw where the Dutton family tree took root and it just so happened to come with its own train station. Starring Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott (who originally trashed "Yellowstone") as its core cast, one of the most important names on the list was Isabel May as Elsa Dutton. A voice that hovers throughout not just "1883" but decades later in "Yellowstone," May's performance runs through the entire Dutton timeline. For Sheridan, she was essential to the gritty and unforgiving spin-off that, according to him, simply wouldn't work without her.
Strangely, the meeting between Sheridan and May began away from Dutton land when she auditioned for a role in "Mayor of Kingstown.

Taylor Sheridan knows a thing or two about power moves, but when it comes to billionaires, he’s not falling for the smoke and mirrors show. While the world treats Elon Musk like the ultimate money-printing machine, Sheridan’s calling Bs on the whole “multi-billionaire” label.

Taylor Sheridan does not lack for chutzpah. The Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of "Hell or High Water" kicked his career into overdrive seven years ago when he launched the new-Western sensation "Yellowstone" on the Paramount Network. Since then, he's been a one-man television hit machine with "Yellowstone" spinoffs "1883" and "1923," as well as "Mayor of Kingstown," "Tulsa King," "Lioness" and "Landman." He is not a man to whom you say "no." I mean, you can say it, but you do so at your peril because the project you just shot down will likely wind up being a smash hit for a competitor.
Sheridan was just a year into building his "Yellowstone" empire when, being one of the busier bees in Hollywood, he hired himself out to rewrite the screenplay for an adaptation of Michael Koryta's thriller novel "Those Who Wish Me Dead." The tale of a reclusive smokejumper who finds herself...

Taylor Sheridan has really managed to endear himself to Hollywood, thanks to how his shows have managed to catch the attention of an audience that Hollywood considered completely lost. However, there is a large section of this fandom that is dealing with some dissonance when it comes to the show.

Given all the hype around Yellowstone, there was a section of the fandom that expected the show to follow in the footsteps of prestige TV classics like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and Ozark. However, what the fans ended up getting was a soap opera which is nowhere near as complex or deep as fans expected it to be.

Sometimes, life dishes out the harshest of lessons, and for John Dutton III, the hardest one might just be what he has become. The Yellowstone patriarch, once hailed as a rugged man of the land, now stands as a father figure so distant and disjointed that fans are beginning to doubt if he ever really earned that title. John Dutton’s narrative is an unmistakable paradox, and it’s one Taylor Sheridan weaves carefully, but with a wicked twist in his prequels that puts John under an unflattering light.

Now that Quentin Tarantino is no longer making "The Movie Critic," plans for his final movie are up in there. The "Pulp Fiction" and "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood" director has vowed to retire from filmmaking after helming 10 features, and it seems that he's in a funk because he wants his farewell flick to be perfect. What's more, he's even pondered bowing out with his current oeuvre, believing that "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is a worthy swansong, especially in the current climate.
During an appearance at the Sundance Film Festival's "Elvis Mitchell Suite" (via Entertainment Weekly), Tarantino clamped down on his reluctance to rush into his final film. He revealed that he's working on a play and feeling disillusioned with the cinematic landscape, which is why filmmaking isn't at the top of his to-do list. In his own words:

It’s been quite a long time since any streaming titles popped the way that Squid Game did with the debut of Season 2.
Nielsen says that the Netflix series racked up more than 4B (4.6B to be exact) viewing minutes for the second consecutive week from December 30 to January 5, which is a feat not accomplished since Wednesday did so in November 2022. While Nielsen doesn’t separate viewing by season, the company did say that 80% of the watch time during this interval went to Season 2.
It’s likely that Squid Game will continue to put up impressive numbers, since according to Netflix the second season was seeing record viewership into January.
Six other titles scored over 1B viewing minutes, including Virgin River with 1.39B, marking its third week in second place since Season 6 premiered on December 19.

Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx’s spy thriller “Back in Action” continues its dominance of the streaming landscape, maintaining its top position for a second consecutive week. After capturing 3.2 million U.S. households during its first weekend streaming, the action-packed film has shown remarkable staying power, demonstrating that audiences aren’t ready to let go of this high-stakes adventure.
Netflix showed its streaming supremacy with an impressive triple threat at the top of the charts, as “The Night Agent” Season 2 and “American Primeval” secured the No. 2 and No. 3 positions respectively.
The Paramount+ release of “Gladiator II” proved its box office success wasn’t a fluke, charging into No. 4, while Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” was finally unseated from its lock on the top two slots over the last seven weeks to fall into No. 5. The success of “The Night Agent” Season 2 sparked renewed interest in its predecessor, with Season 1 claiming the No.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe has been going strong for the better part of the last decade. However, it isn’t until the prequel saga of the Duttons that the story picks up pace and moves a generation of viewers and critics alike into investing in the heartbreak and tragedy that follows this particular family of ranchers and cowboys.

1923 brings a sense of foreboding and solitary trauma to the story of the Duttons that was seemingly lost in the Machiavellian politics, violence, and rivalry of Yellowstone. In the unadulterated climate of the era it depicts, Sheridan’s 1923 unapologetically displays tragedy and trauma against the stylish backdrop of Montana.
However, amid the blossoming romances and troubles plaguing the Yellowstone Dutton ranch, one dangerous question takes root in the show’s Season 2 storyline.

Movies like Valiant One, a new “American” action thriller from Steve Barnett, who co-wrote the dud with Eric Tipton, can go well beyond frustrating. Sure, the film has good intentions, trying to portray servicemen and women in a positive, albeit grueling, light. Does that mean we must treat the subject matter with such a contrived story?
Yet, even with the action film’s limited budget, time and care for the plot are jettisoned in favor of a political slant we have seen thousands of times before. However, none of that can cover the lousy acting, gaping plot holes, and puzzling character decisions that make you want to pull your hair out. Yet, Hollywood keeps recycling these movies, and we keep gobbling them up.

Texas-born actors Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson reprised their True Detective roles in a video today as they urged the state Legislature to bring more Hollywood productions to the Lone Star State.
The four-minute clip, “True to Texas,” follows McConaughey and Harrelson down a desolate two-way road, and it feels reminiscent of their True Detective personas, Detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, from the franchise’s first season. With Dennis Quaid handcuffed in the back seat, the trio make proposals to create Hollywood films, TV shows, music videos, and commercials on Texas soil.

The Magnum P.I. star said if he did anything, it would be a dinner with his wife of 37 years, Jillie Mack, and other close family.

At its core, Dog Man is a warm and funny animated film about fathers and sons. However, the mix of simplistic animation and big gobs of absurdity makes book series so popular. The almost refreshing humor is the way it is tailored to a younger audience, who should be its demographic.
However, while not close to being perfect, Peter Hastings’s Dog Man adaptation of the uber-popular children’s graphic novel series has a lovely third act that hits home, bringing the story—and undoubtedly adults and their children—together.
The silliness and playfulness ring true, enhanced by the strong family messaging.

Sometimes in life, the road we think we’re destined for isn’t always the one that takes us to where we need to be. We all want to be the hero in our own stories, but more often than not, the best chapters come from unexpected detours. Ian Bohen, who’s made a name for himself as the lovable yet gritty cowboy Ryan in Yellowstone knows this firsthand.
If you ask him about the rocky path to the role that solidified his place in Taylor Sheridan’s universe, you’ll hear a story filled with both triumph and the humbling sting of “almost”.

But let’s not sugarcoat it: This isn’t just a story about an actor missing out on a role. No, this is about a passionate journey, a lesson in trusting your instincts, and a good ol’ fashioned reminder that timing is everything.

There’s a saying that goes, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” Yet, far too often, people look at the outward signs of a person’s beliefs, and, with one quick brushstroke, label an entire group of individuals. But what happens when someone dares to peel back the layers and show the gritty truth beneath?
Taylor Sheridan, the unapologetic Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind Hell or High Water, has boldly taken on this very challenge, all while exposing a silent undercurrent of rural America that often goes unnoticed—or worse, misjudged.

Through his film, Sheridan highlights the real struggles of people in small towns, who face economic hardship and neglect, and who feel their voices are ignored by mainstream elites. He criticizes how pundits like Bill Maher lump entire regions together, assigning political beliefs to people based on assumptions.

I’m unsure what to make of Prime Video’s You’re Cordially Invited. This film has a fantastic pedigree behind it. First, Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon are two reliable comedy stars; this is the first film they have starred in together. They share excellent antagonistic chemistry.
Another factor is You’re Cordially Invited’s director, Nicholas Stoller, who has made some of the best comedy movies of this century, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the Neighbors franchise of films, and the unfairly underseen (and box office failure) Bros.
However, you have a likable comedy that is too recycled and plays it too safe for its good, never living up to its War of the Roses premise. Albeit, a Saturday Night Live-esque version of such.

This post contains spoilers for "Yellowstone," including season 5.
"Yellowstone" is full of real gut-punch moments. The series kicked off with a shocking death when Lee Dutton met his fate in the premiere episode. That very much set the tone for the show moving forward, which at times felt like a really well-shot soap opera and less like a premium drama. That isn't to knock Taylor Sheridan's hugely-popular neo-Western; "Yellowstone" has managed to maintain its appeal in part due to such shocking developments making the series unmissable — at least for dads. Sam Elliot might have trashed "Yellowstone" as a result of its soapy tendencies, but he also starred in one of its spin-offs, so he can't hate it that much.
This continued right up until the show's fifth season, with season 5 part B opening with the controversial death of Dutton family patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner). Perhaps the most contentious...

Taylor Sheridan is the kind of filmmaker who can turn even the simplest scene into a literal masterpiece. One of his best movies is packed with moments so intense they could give a horror flick a run for its money. The attention to detail, folks, is next-level.

As last year wound down, the Disney TV empire — counting broadcasters like ABC, streaming platforms Disney+ and Hulu along with cable channels like FX — managed to stave off YouTube in the race for viewing marketshare in the attention economy.
Disney’s brands saw about 11.2 percent of overall TV viewing in the United States, just ahead of YouTube’s 11.1 percent share, per Nielsen’s Media Distributor Gauge for December. Having the most-viewed TV series of 2024, Bluey, which tallied 55.62 billion minutes watched last year, certainly helped. And, in fact, all five of the top five most-viewed series of 2024 — Grey’s Anatomy, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and NCIS among them — were all available to watch on a Disney platform.
YouTube, meanwhile, appears to be reaping the benefits by orienting its app as a viewing destination on TV sets instead of just as a second screen for videos. The Google-owned platform claimed...

Everything you need to know about 1923 Season 2 (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The neo-western drama genre saw a considerable boost, all thanks to the massive success of Yellowstone. The series wrapped up after five long series last year, but the show’s universe is still alive and thriving with multiple prequels and spinoffs. 1923, a show’s prequel, has also become a fan favorite.
Though the first season of 1923 came out in 2022, the audience has been patiently waiting to see the Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford starrer’s next season. Now that the second season is slated for release, the cast has teased the upcoming edition and what to expect.

“You don’t know what you’re made of until you have to fight for it.” A sentiment that seems to echo louder with each passing season of Yellowstone. The gripping saga of the Duttons is far from your standard family drama. Instead, it’s a brutal, no-holds-barred clash of bloodlines, legacy, and fate. But what if the story didn’t end with the final sunsets over the ranch? What if the future of the Dutton empire—its very survival—hinged on the unlikeliest of warriors?

Picture this: a fresh generation, born from the ashes of betrayal and unfinished business, rises up to stake their claim. James Jr., the son of Jamie Dutton and Cristina, carries a legacy far weightier than many realize. This is the sequel idea that Taylor Sheridan needs to seriously consider—because the saga of Yellowstone isn’t done just yet.

Taylor Sheridan is one of the most prolific writers working in film and television today, with shows such as "Tulsa King," "Landman," "Lioness," and "Mayor of Kingstown" becoming hits on the small screen. His projects tend to be action-packed and full of drama, and they attract A-list names like Kevin Costner, Billy Bob Thornton, and Zoe Saldana. However, "Yellowstone" is his prize horse, and it's spawned a successful franchise that includes spin-offs like "1883" and "1923," with more on the way.
Sheridan deserves plenty of credit for his success, and the fact he's such a highly sought-after writer proves that he has talent. That said, there are lines of dialogue on "Yellowstone" that are straight-up cringe-inducing, albeit in a way that's quite entertaining and adds to the series' trashy, soap opera-esque qualities. Keeping that in mind, let's reminisce about some of the worst lines to make it from the script...

The world of entertainment is closely intertwined with the world of politics. Especially in the realm of Hollywood where political commentary is a commonly found element, polarizing figures end up connecting, forging unlikely connections. This couldn’t be more true when the recent Presidential elections happened in the United States. In a ‘war’ between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Republicans and Democrats, even the film industry had its stars divided, supporting one camp over the other.

Netflix offers another true crime series where the filmmakers put the media on trial. The most current example is American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson, a series that, by the third episode, points fingers at the salacious nature of the case, which was perfect for the dawn of putting a trial on television.
However, the series offers eye-opening, fair treatment from both sides of the aisle. It correctly shows that putting the trial on television affected both sides. From the prosecutors to the defense attorneys, from the judge to the jury, everyone thought and acted differently because of it.
That makes American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson so compelling, gripping, and, at times, jaw-dropping. This behind-the-scenes true crime docuseries, the first original from Netflix on the case, pulls back the curtain on the maneuvering and explains why the infamous Hall of Fame football player was charged but never convicted.

Taylor Sheridan has done Hollywood a huge favor by bringing his talents to the industry. The actor/writer has managed to corner a market that the execs of Tinsel Town considered entirely lost, especially given that content that came out of the industry didn’t necessarily skewer toward the mid-western audience.

However, the writer’s biggest threat in the industry seems to be himself, given how there has been an overwhelmingly positive response to his prequels to Yellowstone, so much so that fans are of the opinion that while the show has immense merit on its own, it fails to stand up to the prequels that Sheridan has penned.

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers ahead for Yellowstone
Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone finally ended last year with its fifth season. Despite feuding with lead star Kevin Costner, the show returned without him and gave not necessarily a satisfying, but poetic ending with its finale. While the series has ended, there are still prequels and spinoffs in various stages of development.
The reception for Yellowstone’s final season was polarizing. Many fans accused Sheridan of playing it safe and not staying true to its core themes of moral ambiguity. The biggest examples of this were the heel turn and eventual death of Jamie Dutton, played by Wes Bentley. His death did not seem like a natural end for the character but was a statement.

Yellowstone has made Kelly Reilly a household name. Her character Beth Dutton’s courage and confidence shine through her performance, but her one quirk left the actress feeling uncomfortable throughout the show’s five seasons.

The episodes released on the heels of the show’s lead actor Kevin Costner and creator Taylor Sheridan’s feud weren’t the easiest to digest. Fans hated Dutton family patriarch John Dutton and his adopted son Jamie Dutton’s (Wes Bentley) fate a sentiment echoed amongst the critics as well. However, most fans will unanimously agree with Reilly’s candid confession about her character.

He's one of the most successful authors in history, but Stephen King is still a human being with regrets. Granted, the regrets he's most vocal about typically relate to his own career choices, but according to a recent social media post, he's also upset at the fact he likes Taylor Sheridan's "Landman" series on Paramount+.
"Landman" takes place in the realm of the Texas oil industry and sees Billy Bob Thornton play a fixer for a giant tycoon. This puts him into contact with everyone from the cartel to politicians, while simultaneously dealing with his seductive ex-wife, feisty teenage daughter, and a son who witnesses a traumatic on-site accident. While there isn't any ranching involved, "Landman" is another Sheridan Western that will appeal to fans of "Yellowstone" due to its masculine bravado, which is why King hates himself for liking it.

In the pantheon of Taylor Sheridan TV shows, Landman might be the most divisive. Those who love the Texas-set drama really love it, while others just can’t get on board with the story of a fire-breathing oil company henchman trying to navigate his own turbulent romance, the threat of harm against his men by both faulty equipment and the neighboring cartel, and, well, the fact that not everyone’s happy about his line of work causing irreparable damage to the planet. TV production stayed down last year, though the decline was slower than the year before, dropping 7% from 2023, according to a Luminate report. The entertainment industry is still recovering from the impact of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which affected nearly every corner of film and TV.
Broadcast TV bounced back faster than other formats. Networks worked hard to get shows back on the air early in the year, resulting in a surprising 25% rise in production. Cable, however, struggled the most, with the original series hitting new lows, down 15% compared to 2023.
Streaming hasn’t fully recovered either. Netflix, though still leading in the U.S., produced 22% fewer series last year. Only Prime Video avoided cuts in U.S.-based content over the last two years.
Disney+ had a mix of results in 2024. While big franchises like Marvel and Star Wars underperformed, The Acolyte emerged as a standout, pulling in 2.7 billion minutes watched,...

Sheridan revealed in a roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter that his process for churning out these amazing stories rests on one possible problem that he includes in his writing.

More often than not, the writer revealed, that when it comes to writing characters, Sheridan would imagine a particular actor in the role that he is writing. This is usually considered to be a double-edged sword, given that the availability of an actor is subject to a lot of variables, and it is completely possible that the actor that the part is written for could decide not to do the show at all.
