On Thursday, Netflix revealed its full 2025 film slate. The lineup includes long-awaited sequels, high profile originals, future Oscar contenders, and much more.

The biggest new announcements in the slate include the formal announcement of Jay Kelly, three-time Academy Award nominee Noah Baumbach‘s latest film, a “heartbreaking comedy” featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler in the large ensemble cast; Eddie, a biographical documentary about one of Hollywood’s most elusive stars, Eddie Murphy; and a Charles Manson documentary from Academy Award winner Errol Morris.

These titles join previously announced films including the third installment in Rian Johnson‘s Daniel Craig-led mystery franchise, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Guillermo del Toro‘s adaptation of Frankenstein starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi; and an as-yet-untitled thriller from Best Director winner Kathryn Bigelow, her first film in eight years.

Netflix unveiled their feature slate for this year, dating a handful of titles, along with some first look photos and teasers to come this morning. For all the headlines that they’ve cut back on their feature slate, what’s clear below is that the streamer continues to commit to event films.

Among those pic’s receiving premiere dates, either specific or general, are the Stephen Chbosky directed comedy Nonnas starring Lorraine Bracco, Linda Cardellini and Drea de Matteo, the long-awaited Charlize Theron Skydance action sequel The Old Guard 2, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, the Gareth Evans action thriller Havoc, Fear Street: Prom Queen, A Merry Little Ex-Mas, Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, the Ben Affleck and Matt Damon cop thriller Rip, The Woman in Cabin 10, Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow’s next untitled movie, and the highly anticipated Rian Johnson threequel Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

The fallout of Ivy’s actions continues in “Back to School.” While she tried to kill off her former professor, lover and attempted murderer, Ivy might have made him into a far more powerful monster. The news of Jason Woodrue’s death spreads fast, forcing Harley to reckon with her partner’s dishonesty. Harley Quinn works best when it frames conflicts through the Harley/Ivy relationship, and “Back to School” is a perfect example of its value. Plus, we get the overly theatrical Clayface back, a huge win for comedy in general.

He performs his one-man-show in the Metropolis Theater in front of a surprisingly thin crowd (given the success of his Vegas show). Another addition has been added to the Star Wars Celebration Japan guest list as Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson will be joining the event.

Despite the fact even the most die-hard DC readers might not have been overly familiar with the show's leads, Task Force M quickly struck a chord with fans. Now, creator and writer James Gunn has revealed some familiar - and not-so-familiar - names who failed to make the cut.

"I definitely considered Wolfpack, and, especially, Man-Bat (one of my faves)," the filmmaker told a fan on Threads. "But I knew I wanted to tell Weasel's story so it felt like too many rabid and fuzzy characters."

"I considered Vincent Velcoro but wanted to choose a 'creature' far outside the usual roster from another part of DC - so I went with Dr. Phosphorous instead. I also considered Solomon Grundy, another favorite, but was pretty set on Frankenstein," Gunn concluded.

Over the weekend, DC Studios released a new 30-second TV spot for Superman. Much has been said about a "goofy" shot of David Corenswet's Man of Steel in flight, but the preview featured another far more exciting talking point.

When Lex Luthor and Ultraman land in a snowy location we have to believe is near the Fortress of Solitude, it's in a helicopter or plane that looks very comic book-inspired.

However, upon closer inspection, we can see that it's green and purple! While this isn't overly easy to pick out at first glance, we've played around with the contrast and can confirm Lex is using this all-too-familiar colour scheme for his ship.

Remember, the first trailer showed several armed guards wearing uniforms which, as well as being green and purple, looked heavily inspired by the villain's Warsuit from Superman For All Seasons, a series we know Superman has taken some cues from.

Clayface's remains were still splattered across the room when Amanda Waller showed up and he looked very dead. However, Creature Commandos was produced before James Gunn greenlit Mike Flanagan's Clayface movie - set for release on September 11, 2026 - and that now complicates things somewhat.

Moana 2’s weekend actuals came in higher than previously reported. It has not only surpassed Despicable Me 4’s $969.4 million global haul but also beaten Oppenheimer’s collection as one of the top 10 highest-grossing films post-covid. Scroll below for the deets.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was released in 2023 and was the third highest-grossing film of the year. The Oscar-winning movie collected $977 million in its global run, making it the ninth highest-grossing film post-covid. The Disney sequel has been keeping up good momentum at the cinemas despite facing worthy competition.

The movie surpassed Toy Story 4’s domestic haul of $434 million during this weekend and became the seventh highest-grossing animation of all time at the US box office. According to Luiz Fernando’s report, Moana 2 collected a strong $6.5 million on the seventh three-day weekend, taking the domestic cume to $434.9 million.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery is bringing back "The Puppy Bowl" for the 21st time this year. The event will have DC Studios co-ceo and Superman director James Gunn on hand alongside his dog Ozu, the inspiration for Krypto in the Dcu movie.

From red carpets to resident aliens and driving ranges, NBCUniversal’s SpinCo has given its first indication what its programming strategy might look like with the hire of Val Boreland as President of Entertainment.

Boreland will oversee programming for cable networks including USA Network, Oxygen, E!, Syfy and Golf Channel as the Comcast-owned company spins off these assets into its own entity.

Boreland’s background – she is currently EVP and Head of Content Acquisitions, TV & Streaming for NBCUniversal – points to a mix of third-party acquisitions alongside original series.

She has overseen acquiring content for NBC, the cable networks and Peacock and was credited with the latter’s savvy acquisition of the streaming rights to hit Paramount drama series Yellowstone as well as its deal for the John Wick prequel The Continental.

But she does also have original programming experience, as NBCUniversal was quick to point out in its announcement Thursday.
