Exclusive: Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker are teaming on an ITV heist thriller about two skilled confidence tricksters separated by a 10-year prison sentence.
Gentleman Jack star Jones has created Frauds with Anne-Marie O’Connor, who she previously teamed with on ITV’s Maryland.
Jones will play Bert, who has spent the last decade in a Spanish prison cell with a burning desire to pull off one final job that will prove her worth. Doctor Who star Whittaker is Sam, her partner, who for the past decade has been content to live a life of quiet anonymity in the hills of Southern Spain. The story begins as Sam anxiously waits for Bert to be released from a maximum-security prison on grounds of compassionate discharge. On the pretext of one final, multi-million-pound art heist, Bert attempts to lure Sam out of retirement, but at what cost?

The Doctor Who franchise has had a lot of success through spinoffs over the years. From Torchwood to The Sarah Jane Adventures, the Whoniverse has explored everything from mature themes to family-friendly fun. Up next is The War Between the Land and the Sea, a high-stakes series featuring the return of classic villains: the Sea Devils!
The War Between the Land and the Sea began filming in August 2024. Created by Russell T. Two cosplayers create a first-time encounter between the Thirteenth Doctor and her Weeping Angel-self from Doctor Who season 13. Jodie Whittaker became the first female actor to play the Time Lord in 2017 following Peter Capaldi's departure from the role and portrayed the character for five years across three seasons and a number of holiday specials. In Whittaker's final full season, the Thirteenth Doctor had a fateful encounter with the Weeping Angels in "Village of the Angels," leading to a chilling cliffhanger.
As @thats.so.cosplay attended the Chicago Tardis convention, she joined forces with fellow Thirteenth Doctor cosplayer Katie Haynes for a short video featuring their fantastic renditions of the Time Lord. As the former stood in the all-too-familiar Weeping Angel pose while wearing her incredibly detailed cosplay, Haynes embodied the Time Lord and acted out Whittaker's character reacting to her transformed self. Since "The Church on Ruby Road" resurrected the tradition of the Doctor Who Christmas special in 2024, "Joy to the World" has continued to add to the category of episodes. Doctor Who's modern era began in 2005 when Russell T. Davies revived the show. Before then, there had only ever been one Christmas special, the First Doctor (William Hartnell) episode "The Feast of Steven", which aired on Christmas Day, 1965. 40 years later, David Tennant's Doctor Who debut, "The Christmas Invasion" established the annual tradition of the festive special, something which has been brought back by returning showrunner Russell T. Davies.
During the Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall era, the BBC took a different approach to the traditional Doctor Who Christmas special by releasing it on New Year's Day. Chris Chibnall's Dalek trilogy was far different in tone from both the overtly festive spectacle of Davies and the wintry melancholy of Steven Moffat.

The world of Doctor Who is one of boundless imagination, where the limits of time and space are pretty much non-existent due to the timelessness of the Doctor. However, when it comes to the fandom, pleasing the fandom can be just as complex and tumultuous as the time vortex itself. Every time there is supposed to be a new doctor, there are more chances of it becoming a polarizing event rather than the one fans would be appreciative of.

So, while in recent years, Jodi Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa have been the ones to face such backlash over their casting, there was another actor who, after stepping into the Tardis after David Tennant, became the target of scrutiny for being too young for the role.

TV show romance can be hard to pull off, as fans have polarizing opinions about what characters should end up together. However, it's always gratifying when an unexpected romance turns out to be a hit with fans, proving that the characters have a spark. Whether it's an enemies-to-lovers relationship or the two characters seem like polar opposites, the last thing any viewer thinks is that these people would get together and that the romance would be good for them. However, it's often the most unpredictable romance that turns out to be the most effective.
However, in some cases, audiences did see these relationships coming and opposed them from the beginning because they felt the characters didn't fit together. While some TV show couples never should have dated, these couples successfully proved audiences wrong by overcoming their differences and making amends for the ways they hurt each other in the past.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special, "Joy to the World."
"Joy to the World" adds a massive piece of canon into the Doctor Who universe that subtly explains one of the abilities of John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness. Although the story of the 2024 Christmas special sweeps aside its pivotal piece of sci-fi lore, the magnitude of the introduction and its impact on the larger universe can't be ignored. As one of the best Doctor Who companions not from present-day Earth, Jack brought something very interesting to the position, but his pre-installed backstory left some intriguing gaps. Thankfully, one of the more compelling blank spots has now been partially filled.
Barrowman played Jack during Russell T Davies' first stint as the Doctor Who showrunner, and he enjoyed a brief return to the role alongside Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor during the Chris Chibnall era. Perhaps most significantly,...

One huge Doctor Who fan theory about the Master has been validated by a recent Doctor Who release. This theory constitutes a bit of a retcon to previous Doctor Who episodes, confirming that a popular fan theory about what was really going on is actually true. This newly proven theory makes the Doctor's long-standing relationship with the dastardly Master even more impressive. Going into Doctor Who season 15, this will be interesting, as the Master returns in a 2025 audiobook story that will sit nicely alongside the season's episodes.

Despite rumors swirling for decades about a female Doctor happening in Doctor Who, the BBC avoided it until Jodie Whittaker's run as the Thirteenth Doctor. As the first female Doctor, Whittaker was failed by showrunner Chris Chibnall, whose controversial "Timeless Child" storyline drastically changed Doctor Who canon. Still, as the first woman to play the Doctor, Whittaker herself was praised for her fun, fresh take on the Doctor, her warm, lively personality bubbling through as one of the most empowering female TV characters of the decade. So to say the first run of a female Doctor was a mixed bag would be accurate.
That's not to say Doctor Who hasn't come close to a female regeneration - it has, a few times. But it never panned out, for various reasons, though arguably the real reason has never been given publicly. For a show that's as long-running as Doctor Who,...

Steven Moffat is one of only three showrunners to have been involved with Doctor Who since it was revived in 2005, but "Joy to the World" was not the best episode from the former showrunner in 2024. Doctor Who first began airing in 1963, and with that substantial legacy spanning more than 60 years, the show has seen countless writers come and go. However, in the modern era, there have only been three showrunners in the last 20 years helping to shape and guide the series.
Russell T Davies brought the series back in 2005, and he worked closely with a team of trusted writers to deliver episodes that saw the show come back from obscurity to the point of becoming a national treasure again in the UK. The majority of classic Christmas movies are American, but Britain has also produced a few holiday heartwarmers over the years. The most obvious example is Love Actually, which often features in conversations about the very best Christmas movies, but there are many more British Christmas movies, even if they don't all have big international audiences. Many of these Christmas movies feature famous faces from Hollywood blockbusters.
The worst Christmas movies are often accused of cheap sentimentality, but this is something that British movies tend to avoid, simply because there isn't the same abundance of Christmas content each year. The few that have any kind of lasting relevance tend to offer something different to American Christmas movies, either because they focus on British holiday traditions or because they have quirky British humor.

Doctor Who has completely rewritten the Second Doctor’s regeneration, in the most incredible way. The official launch of the “Whoniverse” was accompanied by an edited, recolorized version of “The Daleks,” a classic William Hartnell story. This time round, it was the turn of the 1969 epic “The War Games,” the final story of Second Doctor Patrick Troughton.
The colorization is absolutely incredible. The edit is a little more debatable; “The War Games” was originally ten episodes long, so a 90-minute cut was always going to be difficult. Still, the most remarkable thing of all is the regeneration - one enforced by the Time Lords. This version has been edited smartly, making it something completely new.

Netflix just dropped a new animated Christmas movie, That Christmas, adapted from a brilliant children’s book series by the director of one of the most beloved Christmas movies ever made. That Christmas is the directorial debut of veteran animator Simon Otto, who previously worked as Head of Character Animation on the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. Released on Netflix on December 4, That Christmas is a wonderful new entry in the Christmas movie canon, and a great holiday viewing choice for families.

Actor Brian Cox has been praised for many of his performances, but one of his best roles was Logan Roy in Succession, which weirdly enough, laid the foundation for Cox's latest part in a Netflix Christmas movie. From 2018 to 2023, Succession aired to incredible acclaim on HBO. The drama series follows the battle between the Roy siblings as they each try to inherit their father's CEO position. Succession is often characterized by its intensity and violence, especially Logan's angry and profane tirades, which makes it all the more hilarious that the show led to Cox's newest role.

As for Emily Blunt, John Boyega, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mia Goth, Andrea Riseborough, Will Poulter, George MacKay, Jodie Whittaker and Cosmo Jarvis, they’re among a formidable lineup of names who only managed a nomination.
So it’s only natural that this year’s crop of nominees are perhaps a little excited about what lies ahead. Speaking to Variety ahead of the awards ceremony on Dec.

Netflix's new animated holiday film That Christmas has an exciting soundtrack with enough nostalgia to bring together the perfect story. That Christmas has a stellar cast, which includes stars like Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, and Bill Nighy. Directed by Simon Otto with a screenplay by Richard Curtis and Peter Souter, That Christmas is the ideal family film to get into the holiday spirit. The Netflix movie revolves around the residents of the fictional British town, Wellington-on-Sea, as they deal with an unexpected blizzard that derails many of their holiday plans.
That Christmas is one of several new Christmas movies released in 2024, but it is easily one of the best due to its heartwarming storylines, stunning animation, and excellent soundtrack. The ending of That Christmas pulls this wonderful holiday film together. Although composer John Powell created the film's score, Michael Roberts modified several well-known songs for the film's soundtrack.

Netflix's charming new Christmas movie, That Christmas, is now streaming and features a star-studded cast. One of several new Christmas movies in 2024, That Christmas tells the story of the fictional town, Wellington-on-Sea, which faces an unprecedented snowstorm just before Christmas Day. Not only does this pose significant difficulties for Santa Claus as he attempts to deliver the presents, but it also means that many of the children in town end up separated from their parents on Christmas Eve.
That Christmas was co-written by Richard Curtis, who also wrote and directed the Christmas classic Love Actually, one of the best Christmas movies for rom-com fans. That Christmas marks Curtis' very first animated feature film, and the movie's cast reflects a level of star power reminiscent of the cast of Love Actually. Here's every major character in That Christmas and who plays them.

Peter Capaldi portrayed the 12th Doctor in 39 episodes of Doctor Who, from 2013 to 2017. His run was a mixed bag, but fans still look back on his era with good memories. And unlike previous Doctors David Tennant and Matt Smith, Capaldi has not reprised his role for a cameo since leaving, and he doesn't really have any inclination to do so.
What Capaldi has over other Doctors is a rich history of playing other characters throughout the Whoniverse. Way back in 2008, he played Roman merchant Caecilius in "The Fires of Pompeii," opposite David Tennant's version of the Doctor. And then a year later he played key character John Frobisher on spinoff series Torchwood: Children of Earth.
Given Capaldi's tendencies to keep coming back to Doctor Who, fans are hoping he'll one day make a triumphant return as the Doctor himself. In the Whoniverse, anything is possible. I mean, David Tennant returned...

Richard Curtis has carved out a space for himself as one of the greatest British screenwriters. His skills include layering multiple storylines, quirky ensembles, heartwarming romances, and sentimental events such as weddings and Christmas. His resume includes the likes of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, and Bridget Jones. So, when I heard the screenwriter was delving into animation, I was instantly excited.

Netflix’s fifth and final original Christmas movie for 2024 is now streaming, and this one is animated. But you’re still going to recognize a whole lot of the cast.
Written and directed by Richard Curtis, who brought fans “Love, Actually,” the film centers on a group of people in a small town in the UK, getting ready to celebrate Christmas. Like “Love, Actually,” the story is told via vignettes, jumping around between different groups and pairings.
And as you meet those groups and pairings, you’re definitely going to recognize some of those voices. Here’s who we have.

The big man himself is voiced by Brian Cox, who you likely know from his time on “Succession,” or films including “X2: X-Men United,” “Troy,” “Red,” “Zodiac” and “Trick ‘r Treat,” among many others.

From director Simon Otto, the animated feature That Christmas is based on a trilogy of books by the writer of Notting Hill, Love, Actually and more — Richard Curtis.
The title recalls a particularly memorable Christmas for Santa Claus (voiced by Brian Cox) as he recalls having to brave a blizzard with only one of his reindeer Dasher (Guz Khan) in order to deliver some much-needed gifts to the residents of Wellington-on-Sea, who become separated in many ways partially due to the storm. An ensemble cast weaves together in the Christmas story that also features the voices of Fiona Shaw, Bill Nighy, Jodie Whittaker and more.
Ed Sheeran wrote a new original song for the film “Under the Tree,” not to be confused with another festive needle drop, Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree.” Find the full That Christmas soundtrack below.

Based on Richard Curtis’ childrens’ book trilogy, That Christmas tells the tale of a heartwarming animated Christmas memory set in the small town of Wellington-on-Sea. A big blizzard that challenged everyone’s normal Christmas routine marked Santa Claus’ (Brian Cox) memory of the holiday, but despite its initially separating families, the storm brought them together in a way too.
Bill Nighy, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker and more also feature in the voice cast of the new cozy Christmas film, which arrived on Netflix Dec. 4 and was directed by Simon Otto.

What is a Christmas movie? There’s two possible answers to that question. It can be a Christmas-themed movie—with all the merriment of the festival. But it can also be a movie that is set around the time of Christmas, say a Die Hard, for example, or the very recent Terrifier 3. We are, of course, here to talk about That Christmas, Netflix’s latest Christmas offering—perhaps the first of this season. Directed by Simon Otto (known for his remarkable work as the animator in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise), it does fall under the Christmas-themed movie category, and despite being primarily for kids, it does boast of a stellar voice cast that has names like Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, and Bill Nighy. Thanks to someone like Otto at the helm of it, the animation is vibrant and colorful, just the kind of thing...

A recent trend that has been appearing in many popular movies and TV shows is the idea of alternate universes; that is, different realities which contrast heavily with the established world thanks to at least one key change occurring somewhere in the past. Movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have dedicated themselves to diving deep into the idea, exploring numerous alternate realities that could have existed just as easily as the ones the characters live in.
However, while many major motion pictures have been entirely focused on this idea, there are also numerous TV shows that have diverged from their main narrative in order to consider alternate realities as well. After all, it can be very enjoyable for the creators and actors of the show to consider how different the lives of their characters could have been. While they all approach the subject in different ways,...

Many Doctor Who actors have had great stories during their runs, but the show let down Colin Baker, Paul McGann, and Jodie Whittaker. For almost six decades, the Doctor has been at the twice-beating heart of the series, and each performer has brought their unique spin to the Time Lord. From William Hartnell’s stern first series Doctor to David Tennant’s energetic Tenth, every actor left an indelible mark on the long history of the show.
However, not all Doctor Who actors were given the material their talent deserves. While the writing elevated some performances, others were trapped in circumstances beyond their control. Whether it was weak scripts, behind-the-scenes challenges, or unresolved story arcs, three stand out as actors who embodied the role of the Doctor brilliantly, yet didn’t get the stories to elevate their enormous potential.

Richard Curtis may be a rom-com staple auteur, but that doesn’t mean the writer/director thinks all his films belong on the nice list. Curtis, who makes his animated film debut with “That Christmas,” told IndieWire that another of his anthology Christmas films actually set the stage for his Netflix children’s feature: “Love Actually.”
While Curtis co-adapted “That Christmas” with Peter Souter from his own bestselling book series, it’s Simon Otto (“How to Train Your Dragon”) who directs (“I’m very much not number one here”); for “Love Actually,” Curtis pulled double duty back in 2003. Both films center on an ensemble cast with holiday-centric stories intersecting between characters. As Curtis told IndieWire, it was the “catastrophe” of editing “Love Actually” that helped bring “That Christmas” to the screen.

I really wasn’t sure what to make of That Christmas going in. Year after year, it feels like new Christmas movies have a harder time leaving a lasting impression given just how many beloved classics are available to watch instead. What can be done with the holiday on film that hasn’t already been done a million times before?
Well, That Christmas aims to answer that question by blending the more grounded storytelling style of typically live-action and typically adult-oriented Christmas films with a family-friendly sensibility and childhood perspective told through stylized CG animation. And while I don’t think it’s likely to join anyone’s annual holiday watchlist, it is rather charming in its own right.
What is That Christmas about?

Ever since Doctor Who returned to screens in 2005, the show's modern era has largely stuck to a common post-regeneration rule, but Peter Capaldi strayed from this trend when he took on the role of the Twelfth Doctor. As one of two main Doctors to serve under showrunner Steven Moffat, Capaldi debuted as the show's title character in 2013, before making his first full appearance in 2014 and leaving in 2017. Twelve is remembered for his blunt personality and thick Scottish accent, but his legacy also includes a canonical occurrence that hadn't happened since Doctor Who's classic era.

The Doctor Who Christmas episodes are always a magical affair, with holiday themes and wacky one-off adventures. Traditionally, these episodes feature snow, frequently adapt a classic Christmas story, or simply take place at or around Christmastime.
However, Steven Moffat has been tasked with writing the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas episode by showrunner Russell T Davies, and in a recent interview for the BBC, Moffat let slip some scintillating details for the upcoming adventure. Richard Curtis returns to festive filmmaking with That Christmas, which streams on Netflix next month. Here’s the trailer.
Love it or loathe it, there is no denying that Richard Curtis’ Love Actually is a modern Christmas favourite for many. With its saccharine stories of love, lust and, in the case of Andrew Lincoln’s character – let’s be honest – stalking, the film has indelibly inked itself into the fabric of the festive season. It’s almost become a tradition to run an article contributing to the Love Actually debate – and who knows, one year we might even get around to it (we won’t – Ed).
Curtis returned to Christmas films last year with Genie, starring Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu, a big budget remake of his terrific 1991 television film Bernard And The Genie, which starred Alan Cumming, Lenny Henry and Rowan Atkinson – both films are available to stream on Sky Cinema.

Brian Cox’s Santa Claus is coming to town in the first trailer for Netflix’s animated holiday comedy That Christmas.
In the film’s first trailer, the Succession actor is sporting Kris Kringle’s standard uniform — a beard, red suit with a white fur trim and boots — as he delivers presents to children on the busiest night of the year, Christmas Eve.
That Christmas is based on a trilogy of children’s books by award-winning writer-director Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually and Yesterday) and marks his first leap into animation. The film features entwined stories about family and friends, love and loneliness and Santa Claus making a big mistake.
In her review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Lovia Gyarkye praised the “charming animation” while adding that the movie “slyly avoids the usual mawkishness by grounding its whimsical story in the real and prickly emotions of life.

In the first trailer for Netflix’s animated holiday comedy “That Christmas,” the “Succession” alum suits up as Santa Claus as he tells the story of one of the most challenging nights in his career.
Based on the charming trilogy of children’s books by beloved multi award-winning writer/director Richard Curtis, “That Christmas” follows a series of entwined tales about family and friends, love, loneliness and Santa Claus making a big mistake — not to mention an enormous number of turkeys.
The ensemble cast includes Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, Lolly Adefope, Alex Macqueen, Katherine Parkinson, Sindhu Vee, India Brown, Zazie Hayhurst, Sienna Sayer, Jack Wisniewski, Rosie Cavaliero, Paul Kaye, Guz Khan, Andy Nyman, Kuhu Agarwal, Bronte Smith, Freddie Spry and Ava Talbot with Bill Nighy and Rhys Darby.
Curtis makes his first foray into animation as the Locksmith Animation comedy’s writer and executive producer.
