Former Mma fighter Gina Carano remains at loggerheads with Disney. It's been widely reported that the actor hopes to receive a $75,000 payout and possibly even be rehired by the House of Mouse in an Elon Musk-backed lawsuit filed after her firing from The Mandalorian in 2021.
That came after the Cara Dune actress shared a series of social media posts deemed offensive by many. The main source of outcry saw her compare being a conservative in modern America to what "thousands" of Jews went through at the hands of the Nazis during the Holocaust.
Having lost roles in The Mandalorian season 3 and various other Star Wars projects - including the now-scrapped Rangers of the New Republic spin-off - Carano wants to make Disney pay. Her acting career has also never recovered due to the controversy.

The Mandalorian, which premiered in November 2019, is considered to be one of Disney+’s major successes. Gina Carano as Cara Dune, a former soldier from the Rebel Alliance, added strength and an interesting look to the part, having been a professional Mma fighter.

However, the entertainment industry has for a long time shown that how an actor behaves off the set influences his or her projected career. In today’s social media age, people need to be extra aware of personal expression and professional consequences, and a similar situation led to one of the most-discussed firings in the Star Wars universe.

Although Mad Max: Fury Road is a truly unique, one-of-a-kind movie, there are still plenty of other films out there for massive fans of the Best Picture nominee. George Miller’s gritty, stylized sequel takes all the brutal action and greasy car chases of his original series and updates it for modern audiences, resulting in one of the flashiest and most outlandish action movies of the past few decades. It’s a wasteland odyssey of immense proportions, and while few other projects have achieved the same quality, there are still many fun movies with similar premises to Mad Max.
George Miller's critically acclaimed sequel has made a home for itself on Netflix in recent years, and thankfully, many of its clearest inspirations can also be found on the streaming service. These are either movies that directly inspired Miller's filmmaking style, or simply those that have proven influential within the post-apocalyptic,...

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Star Wars needs to stop teasing me with cool X-wing action and finally make Rogue Squadron already. As seen in The Mandalorian and other connected New Republic Era shows, X-wings have briefly been featured from time to time as the New Republic strives to keep the galaxy safe following the fall of the Empire. However, we're long overdue for the Rogue Squadron movie that was first announced over 4 years ago.
Originally announced in December 2020, Lucasfilm revealed that a Rogue Squadron movie was in development with director Patty Jenkins. An all-new fighter pilot epic featuring a new generation of X-wing pilots in the galaxy far, far away, the movie eventually faced multiple delays before being pulled from Lucasfilm's release schedule. Now, Star Wars keeps teasing epic X-wing action sequences in its shows, while I'm still waiting for Rogue Squadron to finally happen.

In recent years, Star Wars has unfortunately become known for delaying, canceling, or simply failing to give any updates on movies and TV shows that are currently in development. At present, only two upcoming Star Wars shows are confirmed: Ahsoka season 2 and Andor season 2. While there are a number of upcoming Star Wars movies, The Mandalorian & Grogu is the only one with a confirmed release date.
Many of the other movies seem to be left in limbo, without any clear update on whether they will really happen at all. That isn’t for lack of content or possibilities, though. Star Wars has announced several shows and movies that seem to have plenty of potential, but they are mysteriously abandoned with time. Here are 10 shows and movies that have succumbed to that fate in Star Wars that we hope will be rescued in 2025.

However, things take a turn when an arbiter, Agent Chester (Stallone), arrives, seemingly to join forces with the separated couple as they try to find their way back to one another.

As proven in David Fincher’s 2023 Netflix thriller The Killer, few have a cooler “I shall hunt you down and kill you” look than Michael Fassbender. Though perhaps he’s been matched by Cate Blanchett, his co-star in Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming thriller Black Bag.
The trailer, which just debuted on Tuesday morning, shows the two as elite London-based intelligence operatives (or something) and also a married couple. Security footage reveals that Blanchett’s character is in cahoots with some potential baddies, so Fassbender is tasked with taking her down. The film looks like a more serious spin on the Doug Liman action-comedy Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, recently relaunched as an Amazon Prime Video series with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. A couple in love assigned to take the other out was also the premise of John Huston’s late career winner Prizzi’s Honor...

The world has changed drastically over the years, giving people the freedom and empowerment they need to be their true selves. While negativity has not completely vanished, people have become more accepting than ever. Now, this acceptance is being extended to Oppenheimer actor Emma Dumont who recently changed their name and pronouns and came out as non-binary.

Rachel Zegler is walking back some rather extreme comments she made against Trump supporters, admitting that she let her emotions get the best of her.

To paraphrase Michael Jordan, Republicans buy movie tickets too, and Disney wants them to keep doing so. So Rachel Zegler, the outspoken star of the studio’s upcoming live-action “Snow White” remake, has apologized for a forceful statement against Donald Trump she made after the former president’s re-election last week.
Last week, Zegler, who is currently starring in “Romeo & Juliet” on Broadway, posted on Instagram a reaction to Trump’s re-election that included statements like “another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in,” “there is a deep deep sickness in this country,” and “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.”
Conservatives reacted to her statement with outrage. On her show, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly said, “Hey Disney, you’re gonna have to redo your film again, because this woman is a pig,...

Yesterday we reported that Disney’s choice for Snow White, Rachel Zegler, was making multiple posts against President Trump and those who supported him. Using the “F” word and wishing him and his supporters no peace.
“i find myself speechless in the midst of this. another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world i do not want to live in. leaning us towards a world that will be hard to raise my daughter in. leaning us towards a world that will force her to have a baby she doesn’t want. leaning us towards a world that is fearful.
i shouldn’t be this shocked. but i am. i am heartbroken for my friends who awoke fear this morning. and i am here with you. to cry, to yell, to hug. to wax poetic on how the left continues to fail us in forging a new path forward.

The election has been quite polarizing for Hollywood and the country. People are allowed to have their opinions about the candidates and the results. However, given Disney’s firing of Gina Carano from Star Wars over her social media posts, which have resulted in a lawsuit, it is not a good look to have the actress from your next big live-action film wishing no peace to more than half your audience.
“Snow White” star Rachel Zegler reportedly took to social media to air her grievances against the election results and President Trump. In these posts, she talks about the “deep sickness” that led to Trump’s win, says Trump and his supporters should not know peace, and she says “f*ck Trump.”
Rachel Zegler hopes Trump supporters never know peace, tells her followers to get off X because Elon Musk supported Trump, and ends with- “Fuck Donald Trump.”

Following the critical and financial success of the previous entry, Fast & Furious 6 had a lot to live up to, and it mostly succeeded, especially in the ending and mid-credits scenes, which not only satisfyingly wrapped up the film's conflicts but also perfectly set up the events for the seventh Fast & Furious movie. The crew have gone their separate ways, and everyone seems to be doing well.

Canary Black, starring Kate Beckinsale, delivers high-stakes action, intense espionage, and the thrill of watching a rogue operative outsmart her enemies against impossible odds. Directed by Pierre Morel, who also helmed Taken, this film introduces audiences to Avery Graves, a CIA agent forced to go underground after her husband is kidnapped by a group demanding sensitive intelligence. Unaware of her true identity as a spy, her husband’s kidnapping pulls Avery into a treacherous chase across Europe as she tries to retrieve the classified “Canary Black” file to save him. With relentless chases and plenty of stylish flair, Canary Black might have been something you wanted to see but did not get enough of because of the restriction that streaming brings with it. It’s been a while since we’ve heard any updates on Gina Carano’s lawsuit against Disney—or her life in general. Following the non-renewal of her contract, Carano controversially likened her situation to being persecuted like a Holocaust victim, though her actions were widely seen as bigotry.
In response, she filed a lawsuit against Disney, seeking $75,000 in damages and a court order to be rehired.
If you thought the drama had settled down due to the recent quiet, think again. Carano has now shared an update with her followers, confirming that her case will officially go to trial late next year.

It’s been a while since we’ve had some updates on Gina Carano’s life and lawsuit against Disney… wait, aren’t those two the same?
Anyway… the former Mma fighter-turned-actress was, as you know, laid off by Disney after her inappropriate and discriminative social media posts that offended the LGBTQ+ community, a thing Disney could not and should not tolerate.
Carano’s contract was not renewed, and the actress decided to compare herself to a Holocaust victim because she was apparently “persecuted.” Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney, asking for $75,000 in damages and a court order that would force Disney to rehire her.
We’ve been following this soap opera for a while, and if you thought that things had calmed down because we had not reported on this recently, well – you were wrong.

Disney has suffered a fresh legal blow in Gina Carano's lawsuit over her firing from The Mandalorian. Gina Carano's character, Cara Dune, was set up to play an important role in The Mandalorian era - even starring in a now-canceled Rangers of the New Republic spinoff. Carano was abruptly fired in February 2021 after a series of controversial posts on social media; Carano has now filed a lawsuit against Disney, backed by Elon Musk.
Per Deadline, U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett has now rejected Disney's push for a stay in the proceedings, meaning this is headed for trial - with proceedings due to begin on September 29, 2025. Garnett's decision means the case now moves to what is known as the "discovery" phase, with Carano and her lawyers able to obtain records from Disney pertaining to her firing. "I am obviously very pleased with the opportunity to keep moving...

Unless there is a shift in the legal Force or a big-bucks settlement, the Disney and Gina Carano will go head-to-head at trial next year over the former mixed martial artist’s 2021 firing from The Mandalorian.
That trial will start September 29, 2025, to be specific.
After having beaten the Mouse House and its Daniel Petrocelli-led legal team’s move earlier this year to get her Elon Musk-backed sex-discrimination and wrongful-dismissal suit tossed, Carano this week scored another winner, with a federal judge denying Disney’s desire for a stay of proceedings and interlocutory appeal.
“Having considered the parties’ submissions, the relevant law, and the record in this case, the Court Denies the Motion,” U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett wrote earlier this week. In refusing to give the green light to Disney’s hopes of taking the matter to another court and overturning her July 24 decision rejecting their motion for dismissal,...

In a new update, Gina Carano shared that her lawsuit against Disney is officially moving forward after a judge denied Disney’s request to dismiss the case. Carano took to X (formerly Twitter) on October 16, 2024, stating that Disney’s unusual attempt to immediately appeal the decision and delay the discovery process was also denied by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Carano expressed her gratitude for the support she has received throughout the legal battle. “I am obviously very pleased with the opportunity to keep moving forward with the judicial process and into discovery,” Carano said, indicating her determination to continue pursuing the lawsuit.
The Background of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit stems from Carano’s controversial dismissal from the hit series The Mandalorian back in 2021. Disney and Lucasfilm cited her social media activity as the reason for her firing, which they labeled as “abhorrent and unacceptable.” Carano, however, has argued...

If you’ve been keeping up with recent news, you might have seen IGN’s report suggesting that Disney has modified its policies on LGBTQ+ scenes in animated films. According to this report, following the controversy over the lesbian kiss in Lightyear, animators were instructed to tone down similar scenes in this year’s Inside Out 2.
While the full impact of these changes is still unfolding, someone who, like Gina Carano and J.K. Rowling recently, tends to make headlines even when not directly involved, has weighed in. Yes, it’s Beau DeMayo.
Although DeMayo’s current dispute with Disney is a separate issue, he has been a prominent online figure, often inserting himself into various stories. In this case, DeMayo alleges that X-Men ’97 was also affected by Disney’s new policy.
As you might be aware, Disney is currently undergoing a transformative period with numerous changes impacting its films and shows.

If you’ve been following recent news, you probably know about IGN’s report of Disney supposedly altering its policies regarding LGBTQ+ scenes in its animated movies. According to this report, after the lesbian kiss in Lightyear resulted in a scandal, animators were told to water down such scenes in this year’s hit, Inside Out 2.
And while the consequences of this are still to be observed, someone who – like Gina Carano and J.K. Rowling recently – likes to make himself known when he was not even invited, especially when Disney is concerned, responded to this. And yes, you’ve probably guessed it, it’s Beau DeMayo.
Not entering into his current feud with Disney, DeMayo has been an ever-present personality online and has inserted himself in a number of stories that did not have much to do with his own case. This is – seemingly – not one such case, as...

Leslye Headland did not do a convincing enough job to get Disney to approve a second season for The Acolyte. The show could’ve beaten all odds and went on to achieve The Mandalorian-level success by doing a few things right. There was indeed one person from Star Wars‘ most successful TV series, who could’ve done justice to the storyline exploring the dark side.

The Mandalorian brought in actress Bryce Dallas Howard to direct an episode for each of its three seasons. Dallas’ directorial prowess was clearly visible in the Season One episode Sanctuary, which explored the human side of Din Djarin. She also hit the right spots with one of the most beautiful relationships in the Disney Star Wars world.

Guess who’s back—your favorite actress who can’t help but stir the pot. Yes, we’re talking about Gina Carano, once again speaking out against satire while claiming she’s not targeting anyone, but rather the victim of Disney’s corporate agenda. And here we are, yet again…
This time, Carano’s set her sights on Mark Hamill. Again. How many times has Mark Hamill mentioned Gina Carano? Zero. How many times has he responded to her? Zero. You can look it up. After her latest attempt to mock Hamill, we came across an even older tweet where she criticizes him. And why? Politics, of course.
In a long-winded tweet, Carano reacted to one of Hamill’s posts where he made a joke about Trump, suggesting Trump’s prayer looked more like he was asleep. Carano, in her usual style, jumped in to criticize it and, somehow—though...

Gina Carano rose to international fame as Pedro Pascal’s co-star in The Mandalorian. Her role in the series quickly made her a household name, but Disney eventually cut ties with Carano following a series of incidents she referred to as “accidents”—though many found them too frequent to be coincidental. This decision sparked a widespread controversy.
At Comic Basics, we’ve covered these events in detail, so you’re likely familiar with the reasons behind her dismissal. Carano’s political and ideological views clashed with Disney’s values, ultimately leading to her firing. While her stance was primarily anti-woke, she also made other controversial remarks.
Carano has since filed a $75,000 lawsuit against Disney for damages, and it appears she may also be seeking a way to compel the company to rehire her. In this article, we’ll explore the likelihood of that happening and share our own thoughts on the matter.

Kathy Griffin breaks her silence just once during the hourlong flight. “So far,” the redhead whispers, “it’s just a lot about food.”
Earbuds back in, she returns to the source of her frustration: hour 23 of Barbra Streisand’s 48-hour audiobook memoir. The comedian enters a semi-meditative state, eyes closed and left hand on Elliot Stabler, the vibrating chihuahua mutt who’s as much her emotional support animal as she is his. Griffin has a few reasons for wanting quiet on our June trip from Los Angeles to her San Jose tour stop, but the one that matters most right now is that she footed the bill for this chartered jet. The five other passengers, all but two of us on her payroll, oblige her wish. My first time flying private is at the behest of a self-identifying fourth-tier celebrity who spent two months of 2017 on the No Fly List.

Gina Carano has recently been in the media spotlight not for her acting career but due to her ongoing dispute with her former employer, Disney. Carano, who previously starred as Cara Dune on the hit show The Mandalorian and was rumored to have a spinoff in the works, saw her career take a turn when she made offensive comparisons between Covid-19 measures and the Holocaust on social media.
Her issues with Disney were further compounded when she refused to include pronouns in her X (formerly Twitter) bio, claiming she was subjected to a “re-education camp.” Consequently, her contract was not renewed.
After losing her role on The Mandalorian and a potential spinoff, Gina Carano decided to sue Disney, seeking damages or reinstatement. She claims she was fired due to her political views, which she argues constitutes discrimination. Elon Musk is financing the lawsuit, and Carano recently achieved a small but...

Gina Carano gained international fame when she starred alongside Pedro Pascal in The Mandalorian. The role was a perfect fit for her, and she quickly became a standout in the series. However, Disney chose to end their collaboration with Carano following a series of what she described as “accidental” discriminatory incidents—though it’s quite unlikely they were all mere accidents. This decision has since sparked a continuing controversy.
Everyone is aware of the circumstances and the reasons behind them: Gina Carano was let go because her political and ideological views clashed with Disney’s values. While there were other controversial remarks, it was primarily her outspoken anti-woke stance that led to her departure. In response, Carano has filed a lawsuit against Disney, seeking either compensation or reinstatement.

There’s been a great disturbance in the Force, as if dozens of salty voices suddenly cried out over The Acolyte and were suddenly silenced.
And no, I’m not talking about the “toxic right-wing male YouTubers” or whoever The Acolyte fans want to blame for its cancellation. Rather, I’m talking about The Acolyte fans themselves, who are so furious over the Disney Plus series cancellation that they’ve taken to publicly shaming Lucasfilm as “cowards” in multiple articles and are even attempting to coordinate demonetization campaigns on Twitter/X against YouTubers who they are blaming for the show’s cancellation.
While it’s natural for fans to be upset about a series cancelation, the assessment that it was a handful of YouTubers who got Disney’s incredibly expensive streaming show canceled by complaining about it is incorrect on so many levels.

Bryce Dallas Howard, director of several episodes of The Mandalorian, spoke about the impact the late Carl Weathers had on the Star Wars show with his character, Greef Karga. The Mandalorian is largely considered one of Star Wars' best TV shows, and many of the characters in The Mandalorian have become some of the most beloved in Star Wars movies and TV shows. While heavy hitters like Din Djarin and Grogu have, of course, gained popularity as main characters, even characters not front-and-center in the show have had a major impactGreef Karga among them.

Lucasfilm announced ambitious movie and TV projects for Star Wars and beyond in 2020. Several projects, like A Droid Story and Rangers of the New Republic, faced changes and cancellations. New announcements, like Lando and The Mandalorian spinoff, show the franchise's continuous evolution.
Lucasfilm announced an impressive movie and TV slate for Star Wars and other properties in 2020, but many of these projects have changed in the last four years. During the Lucasfilm panel on Disney Investor Day 2020, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy discussed 15 projects, laying out the company's future for Star Wars and beyond. This included announcements and updates for eight live-action shows, two animated shows, an animated Disney+ movie, and four theatrical films.
Many of these stories came to fruition exactly as they were pitched to the public, receiving a proper conclusion or continuing with new seasons and spinoffs. Others were canceled, reworked into something else, or have had no significant updates in years.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau share a crucial connection in the MCU, both on and off-screen. Favreau, who directed the first two Iron Man films, was key in casting Downey as Tony Stark/Iron Man, a choice that laid the foundation for the MCU. Their collaboration was instrumental in the success of Iron Man, which launched the MCU and set its tone.
On-screen, their characters also have a strong bond. Favreau portrays Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s dedicated friend, bodyguard, and head of security. Throughout the MCU, Happy consistently supports Tony, offering both comic relief and emotional depth. Favreau’s most recent appearance was in Deadpool & Wolverine, where he delivered the news to Deadpool that he hadn’t made it into the Avengers.

The Nevarro trio's fractured dynamic post-The Mandalorian season 2 affects the rewatchability of the episode "Chapter 12: The Siege." Gina Carano's firing led to the cancelation of Rangers of the New Republic, impacting the episode's setup for the spin-off series. Behind-the-scenes issues such as cast departures and canceled spin-offs detract from enjoying the episode.
While I would consider The Mandalorian to be one of the most rewatchable Star Wars projects to date, I've found that I have a hard time going back to one particular episode from season 2. With The Mandalorian being my personal favorite Star Wars project, I've revisited the series plenty of times, especially its first two seasons. I prefer not to skip any episodes when I do a rewatch, though the temptation to get to my favorite episodes can make that difficult. While this wasn't always a challenge, one episode in particular now gives me pause.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed against Disney by Jeffrey Piccolo has reportedly taken a new turn. The lawsuit made headlines when Disney’s legal team argued that the case be put in arbitration as Piccolo had signed up for a Disney Plus subscription and had bought concert tickets that have an arbitration clause.
After receiving massive backlash from fans, the company issued a statement saying that they would not pursue the arbitration angle and would go to court for a settlement. However, fans seem to be skeptical about the conglomerate’s intentions and have criticized the PR statement.
