Jason Statham’s upcoming film Mutiny has now been given a release date, according to Deadline. Lionsgate has given the new action thriller an opening on January 9, 2026. That weekend is currently not sporting competition from any other films, but it will be following up the opening week of Universal’s M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te, which could be its only formidable challenge at the box office after the popularity of the original M3GAN.
Lionsgate, MadRiver, and Punch Palace are teaming up to release the film in theaters. Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis wrote the screenplay for Mutiny, with principal photography beginning last September in the UK. Statham produces through his newly-founded Punch Palace Productions, with Marc Butan via his MadRiver Pictures studio.

Statham would recently get promoted to the lead in the fourth Expendables film, which was directed by Scott Waugh. Now, Deadline reports that Statham will be working with the director’s brother, Ric Roman Waugh, whose credits include Greenland, Snitch and Angel Has Fallen. The film will be an action thriller that is currently untitled, but the film is now being said to be underway in the U.K. and Ireland for Black Bear. The company introduced the film to the Cannes market, co-representing the U.S. rights with Range Select, and plans to take it to the European Film Market.
The untitled action-thriller is based on a script by Ward Parry with revisions by Christian Contreras. Not much is known about the film, but the description of the movie’s plot says Statham “will play a man pulled back towards the ghosts of his violent past.” Statham will be...

More than 100 key figures from the UK film and TV industry have signed a letter urging the UK government to take “immediate action” against Iranian authorities for “gross violations of human rights and women’s rights” in their response to the wave of public protests that erupted last year.
The industry leaders, including Barbara Broccoli, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Edgar Wright, are calling for the UK government to “actively campaign to stop the violence used against the protesters in Iran, including an immediate stop to all executions” and “demand the release of all political prisoners in Iran.”
“Enough is enough. If the global community, which the UK is an active and influential member of, does not act firmly, these atrocities will continue,” the letter reads. “We need to sincerely support the people of Iran in their fight for justice and freedom.”

A growing number of figures from the film and TV industry in the U.K. have signed a letter urging British politicians to support the people of Iran as the country faces global condemnation for executing several of those involved in the wave of protests that erupted last year.
The letter, instigated by British-Iranian filmmaker Babak Anvari, calls for members of U.K. parliament to actively campaign for Iran to stop violence against protesters and end all executions, to hold Iran accountable for the “gross violations of human rights and women’s rights,” and to demand that Iran releases all political prisoners.
Among the almost 100 names to have signed the letter, which is still circulating and gathering attention, are Olivia Colman, Martin McDonagh, Jessie Buckley, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Brett Goldstein, Jonathan Pryce, Hugh Bonneville, Richard Curtis, Gillian Anderson, Felicity Jones, George Mackay, Edgar Wright and Hayley Atwell.

It’s no secret that the Brad Furman-directed City of Lies has had a rocky journey to the big screen. It’s played an exhausting game of musical chairs with distributors and a lawsuit involving the film’s location manager and the film’s star Johnny Depp. Through all, it still managed to make a theatrical debut as theaters begin to open the doors after a year of navigating the pandemic.
Based on the book, LAbyrinth, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Randall Sullivan and adapted by Christian Contreras, Saban Films released City of Lies on 501 screens across the country and the dramatic crime thriller revolving around the real-life death of hip hop icon Notorious B.I.G. managed to earn estimated $275,049 in its opening weekend with a per screen average of $549. This is not bad at all.
Also new to the fold this weekend is Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate’s...

The Brad Furman-directed crime thriller City of Lies has had quite a journey, but the Saban Films release finally hits theaters today before dropping on digital and on demand April 9.
Based on the book, LAbyrinth, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Randall Sullivan and adapted by Christian Contreras, City of Lies follows the investigation into the infamous murder of iconic rap artist Christopher Wallace aka the hip hop legend Notorious B.I.G.
Oscar and Emmy winner Forest Whitaker stars as Jack Jackson, a journalist who teams up with LAPD detective Russell Poole (Johnny Depp), who spent nearly 20 years trying to solve the murder. The two of them try to find the truth. They explore why the case remains cold — and why a secret division of the LAPD is seemingly set on keeping it that way.
It’s not a lie that City of Lies went through a lot to make its way to the theaters.

Who shot Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls? It’s crazy to think that a Hollywood movie can solve a homicide the Los Angeles Police Department couldn’t crack. But conspiracy-minded “City of Lies” — which opens 24 years and 10 days after the rap legend’s murder on March 9, 1997 — suggests that the Notorious B.I.G.’s death isn’t unsolved at all, but a cover-up of epic proportions.
According to buck-the-system screenwriter Christian Contreras (who cooks up lines like “There’s no such thing as law. There’s never been one that can overcome man’s nature”), the LAPD had a pretty good idea of who did it and deliberately chose to let the case go cold. That’s a bombshell if true and downright irresponsible if not — and not this critic’s place to speculate as to which — although one thing is certain: Such claims should make for a far more...

Lionsgate’s Johnny Depp-starring movie “City of Lies” has been licensed to startup distributor Sweet Charm Media for release in China. The deal was closed at the Cannes Film Festival.
The fact-based film is directed by Brad Furman and sees Depp appear as a detective, Russell Poole, many of whose cases were not adequately solved. He began investigating the Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur murders. Poole failed to nail the killers in these cases too, but instead uncovered corruption within the Los Angeles Police Department. The film script was adapted by Christian Contreras from the book by Randall Sullivan. Production is by Good Films.
Sweet Charm, which was formed only in March, by Yoyo Qu, aims to give the film a release in the second half of the year — if possible in a day-and-day alignment with overseas outings.
“City of Lies” is to be released by Global Road Entertainment in North America on Sept.

And this is made by director Rob Cohen, of the infamous Stealth and xXx and Fast and the Furious. Stay away, stay far far away. The cast for The Hurricane Heist includes Maggie Grace as the one and only Treasury Agent who has the code to the vaults, plus Toby Kebbell as a terrified meteorologist (seriously?), as well as Ryan Kwanten, Ralph Ineson, Melissa Bolona, Ben Cross, Jamie Andrew Cutler, and Christian Contreras. Brad Furman directs and Xander Berkeley, Rockmund Dunbar, Toby Huss, Shea Whigham and Wynn Everett have joined the cast. Furman directed The Infiltrator for UK-founded, La-based Good Films.
Christian Contreras adapted the screenplay from Randall Sullivan’s book of the same name, which centres on a disgraced Lapd detective.
When the man hooks up with a reporter, they set out to solve the murders of music icons Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. The shoot is scheduled to take place over the next three months in various locations in Los Angeles.
Good Films produces and Open Road co-finances and will jointly distribute with Miramax in the Us. Good Universe handles international sales for remaining territories.

Forest Whitaker is set to join Johnny Depp in the upcoming murder investigation drama Labyrinth. The film follows the story of the investigation into the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. back in the '90s.
According to Deadline, "Depp plays a disgraced Lapd detective (Russell Poole) who is unable to solve his biggest case: the murders of the hip-hop icons. Whitaker will play the journalist who teams with the cop, each determined to find the truth, and each with a reason to seek redemption in an effort that sets them against the cops."
The movie is set to be directed by Brad Furman (The Infiltrator, The Lincoln Lawyer). The screenplay was written by Christian Contreras, and it was adapted from the book by Randall Sullivan. The script was so good that it moved from being on the Black List of best unproduced screenplays to actually being produced.

Throughout the early ’90s, the fiery feud between Tupac Shakur and Notorious Big in many ways personified the infamous East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry. It was a spat that quickly became public and very, very personal, as the duelling rap icons locked horns under Bad Boy Records (Biggie Smalls) and Death Row Records (Tupac).
Thanks to Notorious and the upcoming biopic All Eyez on Me, moviegoers have been able to gain insight into the bitter saga leading up to the time when both rappers were fatally shot following drive-by shootings across ’97 and ’96. But what about the murder investigation that followed? Enter LAbyrinth.
Helmed by Lincoln Lawyer‘s Brad Furman, the crime drama is set to document the fallout from Shakur and Biggie’s respective deaths, with Johnny Depp already attached to the part of disgraced Lapd detective, Russell Poole. Arguably, it is long past time that Johnny Depp selected a good movie project. He presumably has a very lucrative set-up with Disney regarding the ongoing Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, but lucrative deals and good films are not the same thing. He has, in recent years, filled his time with uncredited appearances (Jack And Jill, 21 Jump Street, London Fields), supporting roles (Tusk, Into The Woods, Yoga Hosers), and poorly received leads (Transcendence, Mortdecai, Black Mass, Alice through The Looking Glass) – but has not had a solid critical and financial success since 2011’s Rango. Could LAbyrinth be the film to turn things around?
The project comes with controversy baked right in. It is the screen adaptation of the overly titled LAbyrinth: A Detective Investigates The Murders Of Tupac Shakur And Notorious B.I.G, The Implication Of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, And The Origins Of The Los Angeles Police Scandal,...

When I initially heard about this news, my heart sank into my stomach. "Are they pushing forward with a remake of Labyrinth with Depp in the Bowie role?" I thought to myself.
No, no they're not. And thank god for that!
But Johnny Depp did just sign up for a movie called Labyrinth, and it sounds like it could be a potentially riveting flick. This Labyrinth is going to be a thriller, and it'll follow the true story of Los Angeles detective Russell Poole, who uncovered a hive of corruption within the police department while looking into the unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.
Depp will play Poole, and will hopefully turn in the kind of top shelf performance he brought to last year's Black Mass- which earned him some of the best reviews he's gotten in years.

I don't know from video games, but I know fans of the Halo series have been dreaming of a feature film for many, many years. While the news that Ridley Scott would produce a "digital series" was likely enticing, I don't think anyone expected Halo:Nightfall to look as big budget and glossy as this!

In one of its most ambitious undertakings to date, Microsoft is moving forward with the live-action Halo: Nightfall TV series, which will debut for the Xbox One this November. Hailing from Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions and Microsoft’s 343 Industries, the five-part series is set between the fourth and upcoming fifth Halo video games. Now, we have a taut first trailer for the show, which promises lots of brooding actors and an enigmatic storyline – not much of a surprise, seeing as it was written by Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring.
Nightfall centers on a new character named Jameson Locke (Mike Colter), described as “a legendary manhunter and agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence (Oni), Earth’s most powerful and secretive military branch.” Locke is the protagonist of Halo 5: Guardians, so Nightfall will act as an origin story for the character. Every year we always seem to get our typical sequels and most of the time they just never live up the original. Fortunately for you Tossers, I have finally found one that does! That awesome movie would be Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead which stars Tom Frederic, Janet Montgomery (The Hills Run Red), Gil Kolirin, and Christian Contreras.
Like every Wrong Turn movie that has come out previously, they have cannibals that love to destroy and eat every human being that pops up on the screen, which pretty much is a given. In this movie, which is the 3rd movie in the series (I know, “Duh, Mister Obvious”) revolves around Nate (Tom Frederic) a correctional officer who is on his last day before going off to school to become a lawyer. He is told he has one last high security transfer to do. So, that seems pretty easy right?...

You could say the Wrong Turn series has gone downhill ever since the first installment. Technically, that argument would be true. A boring and second-rate premise further desiccated by each installment and destined to eventually become so dehydrated in quality that the DVDs they’re recorded on will be best used as jerky. There are numerous ways to chart the decline of the series: recognizable faces, self-awareness within the genre, relevance to its title or production values. By the time the series reached Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead it had failed in each of those areas leaving “fans” of the franchise wholly unsatisfied.
Police officers Nate (Tom Frederic) and Walter (Chucky Venice) comprise the force escorting a bus full of convicts from one prison to another. They decide to take a side route so as to avoid drawing any attention to a high-publicity convict in their care and consequently...
