Last month, we reported that David Freyne was set to direct a dystopian-type rom-com with A24 and that the movie was going to be titled Eternity. The story of the movie was described as a “romantic comedy where everyone must decide who they want to spend eternity with,” with the script being written by former Obama aide Pat Cunnane. At the time, this was all the official information we actually had about the upcoming movie, as a production date had not been revealed; a release window had not been revealed either.
But, it seems that A24 is fast-tracking the movie, as some new information about it has appeared. First of all, we know that Oscar-nominated producers Trevor White and Tim White from Star Thrower Entertainment will produce the film for A24, and it seems that we have a confirmed cast, as well as a filming date at this moment.

Oscar-nominee Miles Teller, MCU alumni Elizabeth Olsen, and Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts) are reportedly in talks to co-star in A24’s upcoming rom-com movie titled Eternity. So far, details are still scarce and we are only reporting rumors, but if all three of them agree, the movie is definitely going to have a star-filled cast with some major names.
Eternity is still a very enigmatic project, as far as we know. There is no predicted release window for the movie, but we do have some other production details for you. The script was written by former Obama aide Pat Cunnane, and the story is described as a “romantic comedy where everyone must decide who they want to spend eternity with.” We still don’t know what that means exactly, but the somewhat dystopian element to the story seemingly adds some flavor. This is also Cunnane’s first major script.

"You know you can tell me anything and I will love you no matter what." Goldwyn Films has released a trailer for the British indie coming-of-age comedy film Dating Amber, the second feature from filmmaker David Freyne. The film is about a closeted gay teen and his lesbian counterpart who pretend to be a couple to avoid suspicion. Dating Amber is "a love letter to all those kids who grew up in a small town and who needed to escape in order to be themselves." Starring Fionn O’Shea & Lola Petticrew as Eddie & Amber, along with Sharon Horgan, Barry Ward, Simone Kirby, Evan O'Connor, Ian O'Reilly, and Emma Willis. This looks good! Yes it's a story we've heard before, but this looks like it has a refreshingly spunky look and feel, not only taking place during the 1990s but the with the wonderful connection these two have. Here's the official trailer...

Exclusive: Samuel Goldwyn has acquired the North American rights to Dating Amber from filmmaker David Freyne. The LGBTQ+ teen comedy is slated to debut on-demand and digital at a to-be-announced date in November.
Written and directed by Freyne, the film stars Fionn O’Shea (Normal People), Lola Petticrew (A Bump Along the Way), and Sharon Horgan (Game Night). The coming-out comedy takes an honest and funny look at the highs and lows of teenage life and figuring out where you fit in — even if this goes against your very being. Teen romantic comedies can be hard to invest in emotionally, particularly as one sinks further into decrepit, cynical adulthood. Whether or not the guy gets the girl in time for senior prom seems pretty inconsequential when you know they’ll probably be torn asunder by college. The good ones have something a little more lasting and internal at stake: Youthful crushes come and go, but you only truly come of age once. A gentle, bittersweet Irish charmer that’s more thoughtful than its generic title, “Dating Amber” finds such stakes as it follows two closeted teens who pretend to be in love, thus deflecting the speculation of classmates and concerned parents. What we root for isn’t just the kids’ tender (if strictly platonic) relationship, but their threatened senses of self: With light, loving strokes, writer-director David Freyne etches lives on the precipice of ruin.

Two high-school students embark on a fake affair to combat prejudice in 90s Ireland in a well-meaning but derivative drama
David Freyne’s eager-to-please coming-of-age movie set in the 90s has the sort of high concept that could well have been greenlit in the 90s, though for an adult romcom, not a high-school film. Fionn O’Shea plays Eddie, a high-school kid preparing for his leaving certificate in County Kildare in Ireland; his dad, Ian (Barry Ward), is a senior army officer at the nearby barracks at the Curragh Camp and expects Eddie to follow in his footsteps. Meanwhile, Amber (Lola Petticrew) is a disaffected teenager in Eddie’s year who yearns to escape to what she imagines to be the punk nirvana of London.
What Eddie and Amber have in common is that they are secretly gay, and people are beginning to whisper about their apparent lack of interest in dating the opposite sex.

The Irish helmer’s second feature is a coming-of-age comedy starring Fionn O’Shea and Lola Petticrew in the lead roles. After a five-week shoot in Ireland, David Freyne’s new comedy, Beards, recently wrapped filming and has now entered post-production. The director’s first feature, entitled The Cured (2017), was a sci-fi horror flick set in a post-apocalyptic society, in which a virus that turns people into zombies has been cured. That film starred actors Ellen Page, Sam Keeley and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, among others. Freyne’s very well-received debut was screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The story of Beards, penned in its entirety by the helmer himself, centres on two closeted teenagers in mid-1990s Ireland, called Eddie and Amber (both aged 17), who decide to stage a relationship in order to stop everyone speculating about their sexuality. Eddie is keen to follow his dad into the.

Released at festivals in 2017 as The Third Wave, David Freyne's first narrative feature (now released as The Cured) nabbed not just Ellen Page, who loved the script enough to sign on as both actor and producer, but terrific Irish actors Sam Keeley (In the Heart of the Sea) and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Peaky Blinders), as well. The film also sports a cool score, excellent cinematographry, and an interesting take on the tired zombie genre. You would think that all of the above would make The Cured a smash hit, but then you'd be wrong (or just have a differing opinion). There are so many elements of the film that alone, are great, but together, they simply don't gel, which is confusing. Is it...

Writer-director David Freyne’s twist on the zombie genre The Cured starring Ellen Page (Hard Candy) hit theaters and On Demand, back in February. And today, we have word that Scream Factory and IFC Midnight will bring the film to Blu-ray and DVD this July. Our own Drew Tinnin’s review of the film called it “a […]

Loyalties are torn for the cured
There are any number of films out there about zombie plagues, but how often do we think about what happens afterwards? In David Freyne's Irish horror drama The Cured, the epidemic is pretty much over, but those who have successfully been treated for their infection can still remember everything they did whilst under the influence. Society remembers too, making it difficult for them to reintegrate. When the director agreed to chat about his film, I began by asking him about its screening at the Glasgow Film Festival back in February.
“It was great. It was a really good screening," he says. "It was the week we had that kind of crazy weather, so we were supposed to be in Glasgow for, I think, two days, and we ended up being there for seven, eight days, just snowed in,...

The Cured which stars Ellen Page, Sam Keeley, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Paula Malcomson, screened at this years Glasgow Film Festival, where I got a chance to sit down with David Freyne, who makes his directorial debut with the film…
In a world ravaged for years by a virus that turns the infected into zombie-like cannibals, a cure is at last found and the wrenching process of reintegrating the survivors back into society begins. Among the formerly afflicted is Senan (Sam Keeley), a young man haunted by the horrific acts he committed while infected. Welcomed back into the family of his widowed sister-in-law (Ellen Page), Senan attempts to restart his life — but is society ready to forgive him and those like him? Or will fear and prejudice once again tear the world apart? Pulsing with provocative parallels to our troubled times, The Cured is a smart, scary, and hauntingly human tale of guilt and redemption.

The brainchild of Irish writer-director David Freyne, this powerful and provocative post-zombie flick offers a fresh take on the genre, making it a must-see for genre fans.
Based on Freyne’s related 2014 short The First Wave, The Cured opens in Dublin, in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, where a scientist (Paula Malcomson) has found an antidote that has cured 75% of the infected. The remaining 25% have been locked away while the scientist refines the formula, while the former infectees – known as the cured – have attempted to return to their former lives, only to be met with anger and suspicion.

Last weekend, writer/director David Freyne’s zombie-fueled political thriller The Cured arrived on VOD and in select theaters courtesy of IFC Films. Starring Ellen Page, Sam Keeley, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, The Cured picks up where most living dead cinematic stories end. After a cure has been discovered, the previous flesh eaters are now returning to the general population to resume their normal lives, but those who were never affected by the virus aren’t exactly ready to welcome them back into the fold with open arms.
Daily Dead recently caught up with Freyne, and he discussed his unusual approach to the story of The Cured, tapping into some real-life horrors that are currently plaguing the socio-political landscape worldwide, collaborating with his cast and crew, and more.

February has been a busy month, as there have been a ton of indie genre offerings coming out each and every week, and I had a chance to check out a trio of recent titles: The Cured from Irish filmmaker David Freyne, the quirky romance/body horror hybrid Are We Not Cats, and Derek Nguyen’s gothic romance, The Housemaid.
The Cured: Right from the start, it is evident that writer/director David Freyne wasn’t looking to make a typical zombie movie, as The Cured begins its story at a juncture where most filmmakers never venture: a deadly zombie outbreak has been curbed after a cure has been discovered, and those no longer afflicted by the disease are able to rejoin the general population. Of course, this causes a myriad of problems, as society doesn’t exactly welcome the former flesh eaters back with open arms, causing a deep...

The Cured director David Freyne and the film’s star Ellen Page stopped by The Hollywood Reporter In Studio to discuss their “unique” zombie film and how they pulled from current events for inspiration.
“We like to say it’s the zombie film where other films end,” Freyne told THR. “It takes the idea of a cure for this infection and it starts with these people being cured and reintegrated back into society after they’re infected, so it’s about how they deal with the trauma of what they’ve done, how people take them back in and how society kind of recovers from...

MaryAnn’s quick take… A slow, mild exploration of guilt, grief, bigotry, and militant sectarianism, all in the context of a treatment for a zombie virus. Tepid and frustratingly underdeveloped, with few surprises. I’m “biast” (pro): love a good zombie movie…

The zombie movie genre has long been used by filmmakers to explore various societal issues through the lens of horror. That continues with “The Cured,” which offers an interesting take on the brain-eater flick, while addressing the ongoing refugee crisis around the globe.
Written and directed by David Freyne, and starring Ellen Page, Sam Keeley, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Paula Malcomson, the story follows a young man who has been “cured” of the infection that turned him into a zombie.

It's such an ingenious idea for a zombie movie that you're surprised no one's thought about it before. A global epidemic turns massive amounts of the world's population into flesh-craving ghouls. An antidote is found, which allows most of these everyday-people monstrosities to come back from the equivalent of the walking, chomping dead. (Most ... but not all.) The catch is that these former mindless killing machines remember every horrible thing they did under the influence of "the Maze Virus" – and they have to live with their memories, their regret, their guilt and their shame.

Paris-based company also unveils sales on Ellen Page post-zombie era pic.
Paris-based Bac Films International has unveiled a raft of pre-sales on Paolo Virzi’s upcoming Rome-set comedy noir Notti Magiche revolving around the mysterious death of a film producer.
On the basis of the script and images, the picture has sold to China (Time Vision), Brazil (Imovision), Poland (Against Gravity), Greece (Strada Films), Israel (Lev Films), Turkey (Filmarti) and Switzerland (Filmcoopi).
“We expect to close more territories here after showing a first promo. All Virzi’s movies have sold well at the Berlinale while in post-production,” said Bac’s head of sales Gilles Sousa, who previously launched the director’s Human Capital at the Efm.
In other deals, Bac also unveiled new sales on David Freyne’s post-zombie era picture The Cured, starring Ellen Page, to Mexico (View Link), China (Time Vision), Italy (Movie Inspired) and Eastern Europe (HBO).
