Starz is Power-ing down a bit, ending another installment in the long-running crime drama franchise. The upcoming third season of Power Book IV: Force will be its last, TVLine has confirmed.

There is some good news, however — showrunner and executive producer Gary Lennon was given enough notice to craft a proper ending, so while fans may not want the show to end, at least they can take solace in knowing it won’t conclude on a cliffhanger.

Starz’s Power Book IV: Force will conclude following the drama’s third season which is currently in production in Chicago. It’s lights out for Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and the gang but that doesn’t mean their stories are over.

As Deadline reported in March, Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive. The plan was implemented immediately as Starz announced the next day the development of a new prequel series Origin, following the Ghost (Omari Hardwick in the flagship series) and Tommy during their early years. The new show is similar to Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which centers on Power’s favorite foe, Kanan Stark (played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) during his younger years.

Peabody Award-winning producer, showrunner and writer Gary Lennon has signed a new deal with Lionsgate extending their partnership.

Under the deal, he will continue to work with Lionsgate Television and Starz on development opportunities to expand the Power Universe. Lennon has served as showrunner and executive producer for Season 2 of the Power spinoff series Power Book IV: Force and will return for the third installment of the Chicago-based crime drama currently in production.

Lennon served as executive producer of the mothership Power series for Starz which spawned three spinoffs including Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force. Watching Tommy Egan navigate a brand new world was one of the coolest parts of Power Book IV: Force Season 1.

We’ve seen so many sides to Tommy, but taking him out of his hometown, without any allies to lean on, and watching him start over again was fascinating. Tommy has most certainly left his mark on the streets of Chicago.

TV Fanatic was able to grab a few minutes with lead Joseph Sikora as he talked about what Tommy was thinking at the end of the season, what Liliana’s death could mean for him, and what surprised him most about the twists and turns of the first season.

Tommy ends the season much like he spent most of it, looking out over the Windy City.

Starz on Wednesday announced a pickup for Power Book IV: Force Season 2, a little over a month from its premiere. 

The third spinoff in the Power franchise debuted February 6 as the most-watched premiere ever in Starz history with 3.3M multiplatform views in the U.S. alone.

The series premiere broke app viewership records delivering the most-watched day on the Starz app and on linear as the highest-rated premiere - both in the network's history.

"Fans have been eagerly awaiting Joseph's return as the iconic 'Tommy Egan' and from the show's record-setting debut, it was clear right away that they want to see another season of him taking on this new city," said Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO at Starz.

The third spinoff of the original “Power” to debut on Starz, the series saw Joseph Sikora return as Tommy Egan, who leaves New York and finds himself caught up in the Chicago drug game. The renewal announcement Wednesday follows strong ratings for the February 6 debut of the third spinoff in the Power franchise, which notched the most-watched series premiere in Starz history, with 3.3 million multiplatform views in the U.S. alone.

Power Book IV: Force will have a new showrunner in Season 2. Gary Lennon is taking over as showrunner/executive producer for series creator Robert Munic, who will not be involved with the new season. This is a reunion of sorts for Force leading man Joseph Sikora and Lennon as the latter was the co-showrunner on the original Power for its sixth and final season in 2019-2020.

The series, which hails from Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Lionsgate Television, centers around Tommy Egan, played by Sikora, after he cuts ties and puts New York in his rearview mirror for good.

Tommy can't escape trouble, can he?

Settling into a new city is hard, but only Tommy would get kidnapped almost immediately after deciding to stay in Chicago. But he wasn't taken by the person you'd expect.

No, Power Book IV: Force Season 1 Episode 2 saw Tommy and Diamond driving around the city all day together, reluctantly bonding and trying to stay alive.

Power Book IV: Force Season 1 Episode 1 was a great starting point for the series, but this hour was naturally less about the set-up and more about the action, with arcs established for the season.

Tommy doesn't interact with the Flynn's here, and that's actually a good thing after the pilot's events, where Walter banished him from the city like he has that kind of authority.

The series premiere of Power Book IV: Force got off the ground running with 3.3 million total multiplatform viewers on Sunday.

The premium cable network has announced the Joseph Sikora-led drama is the most-watched premiere ever in the cabler's history.

What's more, Power Book IV: Force and Power Book II: Ghost together gave the app its most-watched day ever.

“The Power Universe continues to deliver worldwide hit series with incredible performance that compares favorably with many other high-profile streaming series,” Starz president and CEO Jeffrey Hirsch said in a statement.

“We’re excited to see these strong early numbers for the premiere of Power Book IV: Force, which is poised to join our growing lineup of tentpole series at Starz that have global multiplatform season average views in the nine to 10 million range.”
