One of the best parts of "Frasier," the Kelsey Grammer-led sitcom that began in 1993, was Peri Gilpin's Roz Doyle. Unlike Frasier, Doyle was a completely new character disconnected from the show's parent series, "Cheers," so the writers had total freedom with what to do with her. They made her Frasier's sarcastic radio show producer, who slowly became one of his best friends.
Few fans have any complaints about Peri Gilpin's performance in the role, which makes it harder to imagine that Roz Doyle was originally supposed to be played by Lisa Kudrow instead. Kudrow was cast as Doyle but fired before she could film the pilot, an event the actress described as "devastating" in a recent interview on the Smartless podcast. She talked about how, during an early run-through of the pilot, the director James Burrows told Kudrow "This isn't working," and that was it.

While the “Nine Old Men” are well-documented and justly praised as the legendary animators of the Disney classics overseen by Walt — “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937) through “The Jungle Book” (1967) — it’s gone unnoticed how the directors made their mark on these movies. That changes with the release of “Directing at Disney: The Original Directors of Walt’s Animated Films” by Disney historian Don Peri and Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer and Oscar-winning director of “Soul,” “Inside Out,” and “Up.”
Peri and Docter, who spent more than a decade on the book, reveal for the first time the organizational structure for directing at Disney and how the role of the director progressed. Peri, who had a fundamental understanding of how films were made at Disney, spent years at the Walt Disney Animation Research Library, combining interviews, documentation, and a diary into a methodology of the directors’ roles...

“We’ve done some smooching,” Kelsey Grammer says (but remains coy) when TV Insider brings up a photo of his character (Frasier Cane) and Peri Gilpin‘s (Roz) that has been released for Frasier Season 2. (See it below.) Executive producer Joe Cristalli, too, dodges the question about the two friends who do have a history. “It definitely looks like they’re kissing for sure, 100 percent looks like they’re kissing, and Freddy [Jack Cutmore-Scott] and Eve [Jess Salgueiro] do look shocked to see what they think looks like them kissing,” he says. Executive producer Chris Harris agrees, “It does look like they’re kissing a lot. There’s something going on.” But looking at that relationship in general this season, “One of the wonderful things about getting to work with Peri and Kelsey is their relationship in some way reflects the relationship of their characters,” adds Harris. “These are old...

Lisa Kudrow is obviously doing quite well right now, considering that she’s starring in the new Time Bandits show on Apple TV+ and presumably has a Scrooge McDuck-esque vault full of Friends royalty checks.
But there was a time when Kudrow was still a struggling young actor, and had to grapple with the pain of losing out on a role in one of the ‘90s most successful sitcoms that in no way involved singing about malodorous cats.
While guesting on the SmartLess podcast, Kudrow chatted about how she was hired, and promptly fired, from Frasier after being cast as Frasier’s sassy, relentlessly-shamed producer Roz Doyle. “It was devastating to get fired,” Kudrow revealed, recalling that she was told by director James Burrows “this isn’t working,” while performing the pilot’s run-through, and let go shortly afterwards.

A casting mistake led to Lisa Kudrow being fired from Frasier, and Peri Gilpin excelled as Roz instead. Her firing from the Cheers spinoff opened the door for Kudrow to play Phoebe in Friends, launching her career. Gilpin thrived as Roz in Frasier, developing chemistry with Frasier and returning for the reboot.
Lisa Kudrow recalls being fired from Frasier after originally being cast in the role of Roz, saying "I think they did make a casting mistake." Peri Gilpin played Roz Doyle, Dr. Frasier Cranes radio producer, in all 263 episodes of the Cheers spinoff that ran for 11 seasons on NBC from 1993 to 2004, and recently returned for the revival on Paramount+. However, Kudrow was originally cast as Roz, going as far as rehearsals before it was decided that she wasn't right for the role.

Lisa Kudrow famously played Phoebe Buffay for 10 years on “Friends.” But before that, she was fired from another classic NBC sitcom: “Frasier.”
Kudrow was originally cast in the iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane’s radio producer Roz Doyle, who would ultimately be played by Peri Gilpin. Kudrow said she was told “this isn’t working” by “Frasier” director James Burrows during the run-through of the pilot episode.
“I didn’t film it. I got fired from ‘Frasier,'” Kudrow said on the “SmartLess” podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. “I was trying to like [ask], ‘What can I do?’ But I think they did make a casting mistake because I went to the network with Perri Gilpin. I think they were just correcting a mistake, because Peri should have always been Roz.”

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
Co-written and co-directed by Will Collazo Jr and Julie Anne Prescott (who acted in Thomas J. Churchill’s The Amityville Harvest), Amityville Thanksgiving is something of a curiousity.
The film is partially composed of camcorder footage of Dr. Frank DeMonico (Mark C. Fullhardt), a couples therapist who invites struggling clients to use his secluded cottage over the Thanksgiving weekend as a last ditch effort to save their relationship.
Initially it seems as though the footage is just recordings of Dr. Frank’s sessions, but over time he begins using it as a confessional to admit to his nefarious plot. This coincides with additional footage, often night vision, from cameras planted around the house that allow him to spy on the couples when he’s not there.

As you may have seen, Steven Moffat is writing for Doctor Who again (and I bet Tumblr are glad Cloud servers exist now). According to showrunner Russell T. Davies’ Instagram, he contacted both his successors/predecessors in the role and Chris Chibnall turned the offer down in favour of writing a novel, whereas Moffat agreed and, Davies teases, wrote a series 14 episode in which “a perfectly ordinary word [is] turned into something Terrifying and it’s all in outer space and there’s a woman and Oh My God”.
As we saw during lockdown, Davies and Moffat never really stopped having ideas for Doctor Who stories. While it may seem unprecedented to have a former showrunner return to write an episode, it was fairly common during Doctor Who’s original run. If we take the Script Editor role of the original run as comparable to that of the contemporary showrunner (it...

Sixth Doctor actor Colin Baker praised David Tennant's return in the 60th-anniversary special of Doctor Who, calling it "phenomenal" and a good example of the show's tone. Baker expressed his excitement for Russell T Davies' new era of the show, stating that if it continues like the first episode, it will last forever. Despite not being part of the multi-Doctor story of the anniversary special, Baker has contributed to Doctor Who's celebrations through his involvement in Tales of the Tardis and Big Finish's audio dramas.

Tales of the Tardis opens up exciting possibilities for future episodes, with various Doctor and companion pairings to explore. Reuniting characters like Jenny and the Tenth Doctor could provide closure and new storylines for Doctor Who fans. Bringing back Martha Jones and the Master would offer more insight into Martha's side of the story from when Harold Saxon took over the world.
Tales of the Tardis opens a whole new universe of Doctor Who, with many tantalizing pairings now possible should future episodes happen. In preparation for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary special, the BBC has released Tales Of The Tardis. The show follows pairings of classic Doctor Who Doctors and companions, and not only involves the actors reprising their roles, but also combines individual older episodes to create new anthology stories.

It’s not even November 25th and already we’re looking for Easter Eggs. Then again time has no meaning in a Remembered Tardis, the enigmatic location for Tales of the Tardis. What is Tales of the Tardis? I’m glad you asked. There are no stupid questions here, despite the best efforts of the comments section (I’m joking. Probably). Tales of the Tardis (I should probably put that on my clipboard now) is a new series of Doctor Who stories, edited to omnibus length with no episode breaks and bookended by appearances from characters connected to the stories. If Doctor Who fans ever felt hard done by during any of the show’s previous big anniversaries then the 60th is here to soothe spirits, hand out cherished gifts, and generally make a bloody big hair-ruffling fuss of the lot of us.
First came news of David Tennant and Catherine Tate’s return in three anniversary specials, then came the ‘roughly 8 million episodes of Doctor Who are coming to BBC iPlayer on November 1’ announcement, then they brought back Doctor Who Confidential under a different name, and now…
…three Classic era Doctors are returning alongside eight former Doctor Who Companions (plus The Sarah Jane Adventures’ Clyde Langer) for new series Tales of the Tardis.
New Scenes, Classic Who Cast
Not a behind-the-scenes documentary, and not standalone adventures, the six-part series will pair up the stars of classic Who acting in new scenes together, in character, wrapped around episodes from six existing serials.

Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor had a misconceived reputation of being "nice," when in reality, he often displayed dismissiveness and overt hostility towards his companions. The Fifth Doctor's era was characterized by a dark and unpleasant tone, leading Tegan to leave the Tardis due to the horror and violence. The death of Adric left little impact on the Doctor, showcasing his coldness. Davison's Doctor highlighted that the Time Lord couldn't always afford to be nice, as he faced morally challenging situations and made questionable decisions, such as causing a massacre and attempting to shoot Davros. The era proved the existence of darkness in the Doctor Who universe.
Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor always had a reputation as being too nice, which is a popular Doctor Who misconception. Sandwiched between an irascible Tom Baker and the brash Colin Baker, it's easy to see how Davison earned his "nice guy" reputation. However,...

It is one thing to come up with a fairly decent idea. But it is another thing to make a good film out of that. This is where Netflix’s latest Turkish import, Do Not Disturb, stumbles. It does come up with a topic that is quite relevant. Many of us these days spend a large chunk of our digital lives watching Instagram reels about anything and everything. I myself have been guilty of this charge at times. Do Not Disturb particularly focuses on Instagram influencers, specifically one Peri, one of those motivational mumbo jumbos that you come across every now and then on the internet.
The film’s middle-aged lead, however, completely swears by what Peri says and lives his life following her “words” to the T. The film portrays this side of social media as a menace and essentially tells a story about how it affects human beings and their lives.

Fans have been celebrating the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it Here), with Universal Pictures marking the anniversary by giving the film a 4K Uhd release last month. But now the anniversary has a sadness to it, as it has been announced that actor Marc Gilpin, who played little Sean Brody in the movie, has passed away at the too-young age of 56, following a long battle with glioblastoma. His passing has been confirmed by his sister Peri Gilpin, an actress best known for playing the character Roz on the sitcom Frasier.
Marc Gilpin was born in Austin, Texas on September 26, 1966. His acting career started soon after, as he landed a role in a nationwide commercial for Exxon when he was just four years old. From there he appeared in an episode of the TV series Thunder and was cast in the title role of the family-friendly sci-fi comedy Where’s Willie?...

Marc Gilpin, best known for portraying the son of Chief Martin Brody in the sequel to “Jaws,” has died at the age of 56.
Peri Gilpin, known for her role as Roz Doyle in “Frasier,” announced that her older brother had passed on Saturday following a long battle with glioblastoma.
Gilpin played Sean Brody in 1978’s “Jaws 2.” He starred alongside Roy Scheider as Brody, Lorraine Gary as Brody’s wife Ellen and his sister, April Gilpin.
Unlike the original seaside horror movie, “Jaws 2” heavily featured the chief’s two kids, Sean and Mike (Mark Gruner). While another great white shark is loose around Amity Island, Mike takes his little brother on an ill-fated boating trip. Brody is once again forced to face off against a dangerous killer, this time to save his sons.

Marc Gilpin, the child actor who played a son of Roy Scheider’s Police Chief Martin Brody in 1978’s Jaws 2, died Saturday in Dallas of the aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma. He was 56.
His death was announced by his sister, the Frasier actor Peri Gilpin.

Gilpin died Saturday in Dallas after a long battle with glioblastoma, his older sister, Frasier actress Peri Gilpin, announced.
After answering a casting call, Gilpin beat out hundreds of other boys to get hired as Sean Brody in the 1978 sequel to the blockbuster Jaws (1975), directed by Steven Spielberg. He was 11 when the movie reached theaters.
Jaws 2 was directed by Jeannot Szwarc. Lorraine Gary returned as Chief Brody’s wife, but their sons, Michael and Sean, portrayed by Chris Rebello and Jay Mello in the original, were replaced by Mark Gruner and Gilpin in the second film.
A year later, Gilpin guest-starred on NBC’s CHiPs and appeared with his younger sister, April, on ABC’s Fantasy Island. In 1981, he was in the films The Legend of the Long Ranger and Earthbound.

Ron DeSantis’ appointees who control a special district overseeing Walt Disney World voted on Monday to file their own lawsuit against the company.
The five-member board of the Central Florida Oversight District voted unanimously to file a lawsuit in state court. That would counter a federal lawsuit filed last week by Disney against DeSantis and the board members, alleging government retaliation after the company opposed the governor’s parental rights legislation, known as the “don’t say gay” law.
“This district will seek justice in state court here in central Florida where both it and Disney reside,” said Martin Garcia, who serves as chairman of the board. “Yes, we will seek justice in our own backyard.”

One of Ron DeSantis’ appointees to a special district that will oversee Walt Disney World once amplified a conspiracy theory that tap water could be turning people gay, according to a report from CNN.
Ron Peri, the CEO of The Gathering, a Christian ministry, also disparaged homosexuality, calling it “shameful,” according to CNN.
Peri was one of five people named to the board of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which was set up 55 years ago to oversee land use, infrastructure and fire services on the theme park property. DeSantis signed a law earlier this week that give him the power to appoint members of the board, subject to approval by the Senate, in a move that stripped Disney over control of the property. The past few years have seen an influx of legendary multi-camera sitcoms returning to the airwaves, with everything from “Will and Grace” to “Night Court” receiving a reboot. So it was only a matter of time before Kelsey Grammer saw his longtime dream of playing Frasier Crane again come true. A “Frasier” revival is currently in production for Paramount+, with legendary sitcom director James Burrows helming the first two episodes.
But rather than see Frasier return to his old stomping grounds in Seattle — or Chicago, where he ended up in the series finale — the new episodes will be set in Boston. That means that beloved characters like Niles and Daphne won’t be appearing — but Grammer is confident that Frasier Crane can live on without them.

Despite the disappointment of not seeing Niles and other original cast members return for the Frasier reboot, Kelsey Grammer says it's actually a great thing. The actor and producer has been working to bring his iconic character back to TV for years now. While it's finally happening on Paramount+, the upcoming Frasier reboot will sadly not feature beloved characters like Niles, Daphne, or Roz.
In an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Grammer talks about why his former co-stars ultimately passed on the project but says that it turned out to be a great thing for the Frasier reboot. Watch his full interview below:
Grammer doesn't delve into details about why the talks with his old co-stars fell through. While David Hyde Pierce has always been opposed to the idea, he and the rest kept the door open for a possible revival. Unfortunately, they just couldn't find the right...

The Eighties saw the broadcast of some of the finest Doctor Who stories ever, but unfortunately some of the poorest too (occasionally next to each other in transmission order). It was extremely inconsistent for the most part, settling down towards the end of its run as the Seventh Doctor era tried a few things that the show would be lauded for upon its return in 2005.
There was definitely something there, but the show had already been mortally wounded. Rather than being formally cancelled, Doctor Who was quietly abandoned before renewed interest around its 30th anniversary in 1993 saw an attempted anniversary special (‘The Dark Dimension’) and the Children in Need mini-episodes ‘Dimensions in Time’.
A frustrating end, then, to a frustrating decade, but occasionally the potential of the show was tapped to produce stunning images, performances and concepts that have stood the test of time. This is another best-of selection where we were spoiled for choice,...

Nine. That’s the number of Doctor Who episodes that Wilfred Mott has appeared in so far. Just nine. And he was nearly in none.
Bernard Cribbins, a legend who spent seven decades acting and entertaining after joining a theatre club in Oldham as Assistant Stage Manager aged 14, was cast in “Voyage of the Damned” as Stan, selling newspapers from a kiosk as the aliens of the starship Titanic beam down and away again. Due to return as Donna Noble’s dad Geoff, Attfield filmed some scenes for Series 4 opener “Partners in Crime” before retiring from the role. He died shortly afterwards.
