Maria Luna Yáñez Bolaños, better known as Luna Yáñez, is a Peruvian cinematographer and filmmaker. Luna was born on June 16th, 1994 to her parents Micky Bolaños, a well known Peruvian journalist and novelist, and Guillermo Yáñez. She was raised in Lima, Peru, and moved to California in 2013 to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
When she was little, Luna developed a huge love for the visual arts, and this led her to participate in different video productions throughout her childhood and teenage years. At the age of 17, she won her first award with the short film "Camila", which was shot entirely on a digital pocket camera.
After graduating high school, she had the chance to co-found the cultural association Paradero Macondo with her mother and actor step-father (Oscar Ugaz), through which they put up a play called "Juguetes En Fuga" ("Toy Run"). Luna became a freelance portrait photographer and illustrator after that, and you can find her work inside books edited by Ediciones Altazor.
In 2019 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Filmmaking and Cinematography from The Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood, California.
As a filmmaker, she has directed short projects such as "Silent Night", "Remember Porta", and "Painting Cielo". As a cinematographer, she has done projects such as "Just A French Fry", "Space Of Peace", and "Red Dream" among others. Luna has also worked as a production assistant in televised shows such as "Silicon Valley" from HBO.
