Ryder Harrison Houston is an American filmmaker, musician, and performer known for his edgy, phantasmagorical style which often earnestly references and attempts to emulate alternative artists and creative trends of the late 20th century.
His earliest childhood was spent watching the behind-the-scenes of his favorite movies and tracing stills from Disney cartoons. Although he ultimately lost interest in the pursuit of animation, this curious, artistic aptitude carried him through his early theatrical endeavors and eventually led him to develop his lifelong passion for filmmaking. By middle school, he had become well-known for his absurdist sketch comedy channel on YouTube where he would further hone his discipline for video editing, often incorporating the use of intricate visual effects. These videos would go on to reach viral levels of attention in the years to follow, helping him fund his ripening talents for a short period of time.
Just after graduating high school, he premiered his hour-long feature debut 'Rapture in Blue,' a psychosexual coming-of-age thriller that was immediately discovered and released to DVD by provocative distributor Altered Innocence. Aside from writing, directing, and editing the film himself, Houston also composed the original score featuring the movie's haunting theme "Wine (A Sea Of Future)," performed by frequent collaborator and songstress Ariana Kelly. It was this very single which would catalyze the future of Houston's discography.
His film work has been described by some as a bizarre amalgamation of the dramatic intuitions of David Lynch, Brian De Palma, and new-queer pioneers like Gregg Araki or Gus Van Sant. Sonically, he is most inspired by dusty, turn-of-the-millennium electronica juxtaposed by the yearning compositions of Pino Donaggio and Lynch collaborator Angelo Badalamenti--musicians, like Houston, unashamed of blending sincere, croon-worthy melody with blow-out classical bombast.- Actor
