Melina Kanakaredes’ Latest Primetime Role Has a Surprising Connection to her Guiding Light Character
Soap alum Melina Kanakaredes starred as Eleni Andros Cooper on Guiding Light from 1991 to 1995. Eleni was the sweet but tough Greek goddess who beguiled Frank Cooper and Alan-Michael Spaulding. After Kanakaredes left Gl, she experienced primetime TV glory with Providence and CSI: NY. But it’s her latest guest star appearance that gave us nostalgic vibes of her soap days.
Primetime Success Story
It has been 30 years since Melina Kanakaredes appeared on the iconic CBS soap Guiding Light. Since her days on daytime TV, she has spent much of her time in leading roles and picking up high-profile guest-starring gigs.
In addition to Providence and CSI: NY, her post-gl credits include the late great HBO prison series Oz, an episode of the Hawaii Five-0 reboot, and five episodes of CBS’s Extant, a two-season sci-fi drama starring Halle Berry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Finally, it’s the NCIS winter premiere!
So the big question is: did anybody but us notice that little spark between Alden and Jess during NCIS Season 22 Episode 9?
Well, no, I don’t think so. But there are other sparks flying, so that’s something.
(Robert Voets/CBS)
First things first. Who knew Parker had a favorite bakery? And who would have thought his favorite bakery would be the most uninviting bakery we’ve ever seen on TV?
Seriously, that place must be the best bakery in town because nothing other than smell and taste would lure me in. CBS needs to contact some of the Hallmark set designers Stat.
(Robert Voets/CBS )
But there is something to be said about that bakery, as, according to Parker, the baker, Eleni, has great buns.
Was that the lady lighting Parker’s fire?
The supposition came right as Jess was talking about her sister,...

The arc of Sherwood Schwartz's sitcom "Gilligan's Island," which first debuted in 1964, is well documented by TV historians. Because it was so broad, unrealistic, and silly, the series garnered some pretty negative reviews from critics. "Gilligan's Island," after all, takes place in a slapstick universe where none of the characters have to wrestle with survival; their food and water supplies seem to be well taken care of, and all of the characters more or less get along. The only terrible fate the castaways faced was the ever-sinking reality that they would never return to civilization. Which, from the look of it, wasn't too awful a thing to ponder, as they had a bottomless supply of clean water and fruit salads.
Audiences seemed to latch onto the show's generally nonthreatening tone, however, and the show was almost an instant success. After three seasons, "Gilligan's Island" was folded into a near-perfect...

In recent months, many characters have been leaving General Hospital, often with a permanent exit. Now, fans are concerned that Carly Corinthos could be the next character to leave Port Charles. Notably, her current actress, Laura Wright, has come out to address the rumors.
A Character Close To Carly Is Set To Leave General Hospital
Wright got her start as an actress on soaps, appearing on shows like All My Children and Guiding Light. In 2005, she would join General Hospital as Carly Corinthos. She would continue in the role for around two decades.
Recently, General Hospital has seen the loss of a variety of characters over the past few months. Notably, it was announced that Chad Duell would be leaving the soap. This should especially impact Carly, as Duell plays her son Michael.

Linda Barker Laundra, best known for producing and directing hundreds of hours of daytime television, including “All My Children,” “Another World” and “Guiding Light,” has died. She was 79 years old.
“So very sorry to report that Linda died at home Friday afternoon [January 17] at 3:15,” shared Laundra’s husband, David, in a post on Facebook. “I was holding her hand when she took her last breath. No more pain. At peace now and forever more.”
Last February, Laundra was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, most commonly known as bile duct cancer or liver cancer, which is a rare but aggressive type of cancer that forms in the bile ducts. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it often impacts adults in their 70s and generally spreads beyond the bile ducts by the time healthcare providers diagnose it.

Few filmmakers had a better 1970s than Sidney Lumet. While he was more prolific than most of the decade's top directors, knocking out 11 movies over a 10-year span, and did find time to helm one of the worst musicals in motion picture history (a badly bungled adaptation of "The Wiz"), when Lumet got ahold of the right material, he made classics like "Serpico," "Dog Day Afternoon," and "Network."
There isn't a more electric movie in Lumet's oeuvre than "Dog Day Afternoon." Based on a true story, the 1975 critical and commercial hit centers on a bank robbery in Brooklyn carried out by Sonny Wortzik, an amateur crook desperate to pay for his lover's gender-affirming surgery. It was a big year for new faces to grace our screens in daytime. Here are the four best newcomers on soaps in 2024.
Peyton Meyer (Days of our Lives)
As Salem said a heartbreaking goodbye to Doug (the late Bill Hayes), no one expected another Doug to show up so soon. Then along came Peyton Meyer as Doug’s long lost grandson, Doug III.
Sweet on the outside but dark on the inside, Meyer portrays this new character immaculately. The actor fits right in with Days’ villain-turned-good-guy formula, and blends seamlessly into the familiar faces of Salem.
Giovanni Mazza (General Hospital)
When Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) had their wedding of the year, they were joined by family and friends, including Giovanni Mazza as Gio. But it wasn’t until the young violinist decided to stick around Port Charles that he earned a rightful place not only at the Quartermaine’s,...

It was just before she pulled double duty in The Parent Trap that Lindsay Lohan held a recurring role on Another World as Alli. Her character lasted a year before the character exited and was later recast, but that wasn’t Lohan’s first daytime role. In 1993, the actress appeared on Guiding Light as Chrissie.
While Lohan has since made a name for herself in recent years starring in Christmas romcoms on Netflix, like Falling for Christmas and Our Little Secret, you also can’t forget the iconic scene in Mean Girls where the group perform some sexy choreography to “Jingle Bell Rock.”

If you watch a lot of Hallmark holiday movies, you'll notice faces that reappear over and over again. Hallmark is nothing if not reliant on safe, predictable storytelling, and this tendency extends to the people they hire to act in their made-for-tv films -- once you've proven that you can provide a stable, likable presence in a lead role, they'll keep on booking you.
But while Hallmark male stars need to personify whatever romantic fantasy Hallmark is selling -- whether that's sensitive, or caring, or supporting, or rugged, or good at fighting fires -- their actresses have an altogether different responsibility. Since a large portion of the Hallmark viewership is made up of women, these actresses need to be aspirational and, above all else, relatable. We need to be able to see ourselves in them, which isn't as easy a task as it sounds. So when they find a performer who can do it well,...

A lot of soap actors have moonlighted for other projects over the years including Christmas films and horror movies among other genres. But sometimes an actor just wants to support their friends who are pursuing projects, and Days of Our Lives star Dan Feuerriegel, who plays Ej on the soap, is one of them. He recently used his social media platforms to help promote a cool werewolf film.
He Had a Howl Lot of Fun
While it doesn’t appear that Feuerriegel has anything to do with the new horror film Werewolves, he certainly helped promote it by posting several pics on Instagram and writing, “Unleash the beast!

Carter’s really got himself in a hot spot on The Bold and the Beautiful, and it doesn’t look good for him. His real-life alter ego Lawrence Saint-Victor isn’t worried though because the actor is having a blast, especially since he gets to write scripts for the show. Recently, he shared a scene from an old soap that he appeared in and expressed the great fun he was having even back then.

Lisa Rinna is keeping the door open when it comes to a possible return to “Days of our Lives” as Billie Reed.
In a recent interview with Distractify, the actress told the outlet, “Listen, I never say no, really, to anything,” when asked about taking on the role again. She added, “I’m always open to revisiting these characters that I love.”
“You know I love drama,” Rinna continued. “So if it were right, if it felt right, if it made sense. I think I’m always open to it.”
From her interview, it’s understood that Rinna isn’t looking for a full-time commitment right now, and there are reportedly no active plans to revive her “Days of our Lives” character on the series. That said, she did revive the character in 2021 by appearing in the five-episode series “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” (Chapter One), an original spinoff that aired on Peacock.

Despite only appearing in nine total episodes of Star Trek between Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard, Michelle Forbes' Ro Laren remains one of the franchise's most popular secondary characters. In 1987, Tng introduced the world to Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew aboard the USS Enterprise-d. Tng not only ushered in a golden era of Star Trek, but also introduced some of the franchise's most enduring and beloved characters. Almost all of Tng's main cast members became Star Trek greats, but the show also introduced some pretty phenomenal secondary characters.
One of these characters was Michelle Forbes' Ensign Ro Laren, who joined the crew of the Enterprise-d in the aptly titled "Ensign Ro," the third episode of season 5. With her complicated past and tumultuous relationship with Starfleet, Ro was unlike any of the other officers serving on Picard's Enterprise. Prior to joining Picard's crew, Ro...

On the latest episode of Maurice Benard’s mental health podcast State of Mind, the General Hospital star revealed how he manifested working with one of his Gh co-stars.
Manifesting A Major Role
Benard started out by noting he believed he never shared this story with his guest. “I was sitting watching TV one night, and this guy named Rick Hearst won an Emmy,” he remembered. “And I thought to myself, ‘Damn.'”
Benard admitted he wasn’t familiar with Hearst’s work, but after seeing the clip shown during his Emmy win, he said, “Okay, this guy is good-looking and can act like that and he just won an Emmy. And I thought, ‘Wow, I’d like to work with him.'”
The story shocked Hearst, sitting across from Benard, realizing it happened during his 1991 Daytime Emmy win for his role as Alan-Michael on Guiding Light.
Just over a decade later,...

The Bold and the Beautiful character Taylor was recently diagnosed with Broken Heart Syndrome. Although the writers are making it into a dramatic storyline, fans have criticized it. However, Rebecca Budig is defending her character’s story arc.
Broken Heart Syndrome Is Real
When Taylor returned, it was obvious she was keeping a secret, and it was that she was dying of heart failure. After confessing her illness to Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), he convinced her to get a second opinion. A visit to Grace (Cassandra Creech) revealed that Taylor didn’t have heart failure but Broken Heart Syndrome. Although it sounds made up, Broken Heart Syndrome is a real condition brought on by stressful situations, something Budig learned firsthand.
“I wasn’t familiar with it,” the actress told Michael Fairman TV. “But I know someone who has had a broken heart and has had a lot of symptoms similar to...
