During the middle of Tom Baker's tenure on the show, he had a companion who wore revealing skins. Eventually she would wear less revealing clothes. Some parents may not want their children to see a warrior woman with her skin exposed on her arms and legs.

Very mild, earlier episodes feature none at all but later episodes contain mild language, for example, "What the hell?".

The Doctor rarely drinks alcholic beverages. In the first serial, 'An Unearthly Child' the Doctor is smoking pipe once.

Alcohol is rarely consumed by the main cast. Drugs are always fictional and "alien", and usually produce similar effects to tranquilisers.

Some monster designs may frighten young viewers.

There are frequent violent deaths in the programme but usually no blood and gore is shown. Several sequences are considered frightening and intense, particularly in later episodes.
