Donald Sutherland, one of the greatest Canadian actors of his generation and a silver screen legend, has died. The actor, who famously starred in M*A*S*H*, Ordinary People, JFK, The Dirty Dozen, Klute, The Hunger Games, and so many more, was 88.
His son, Kiefer Sutherland, an iconic actor in his own right, broke the news on X:
With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Dear fans, please stop yelling “Randall!” at Sterling K. Brown whenever you see him walking down the street. That’s a reference, of course, to the actor’s Emmy-winning role as Randall Pearson on the hit NBC drama “This Is Us,” which ran for six seasons.
“It’s funny, people would be like, ‘Yo Randall!,” he tells Variety. “And now they’re like, ‘Is Randall on ‘Solar Opposites?’ It’s ‘Sterling,’ God dang it! Listen, I never want people to not know that I played the character. But if and when I reach the point where people stop yelling ‘Randall!’ it would be Ok. Because it’s not my name. It’s Sterling. And to be seen for a body, instead of a character, feels way better.”

Basque documentarian Nagore Eceiza (“Fifty Rupees Only”) is preparing to pitch her feature-length film, “If You Wish To Make An Apple Pie,” alongside 21 other projects at Málaga’s 2023 Festival Fund & Co-Production Event (Maff), which platforms new projects from emergent Spanish and Latin American talent.
Put through San Sebastian’s Ikusmira Berriak, one of Spain’s foremost development labs, and produced by Spain’s Izaskun Arandia at Izar Films and Eceiza’s own El Santo Films, the project unfurls and questions ingrained religious tenets and archaic societal structures that keep two lovers at a distance.

Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.
A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.

Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).
Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.
Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.

“Bridgerton” breakout Regé-Jean Page was thrilled with the reception to the “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” trailer over the weekend, especially because he’s aware there is some concern about how the classic game will translate on to the big screen.
While visiting “The Tonight Show” on Wednesday night, Page was asked about the trailer premiering in Hall H at Comic-Con to loud cheers from the 5,000-strong crowd (and amassing more than 16 million views online).
“It felt great,” Page said. “It was the hugest relief because the unofficial tagline is ‘Dungeons & Dragons: No, No Wait – Hear Me Out.”

British actor Regé-Jean Page is in high demand in Hollywood. Since his appearance as Simon Basset in the Shonda Rhimes Netflix show Bridgerton, which earned him an Emmy nomination, he has appeared in big budget films like The Gray Man, and his role as The Paladin in Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Page’s good looks and charm have convinced directing duo Anthony and Joseph Russo that the actor would be perfect to replace Daniel Craig as the new 007. In an interview with RadioTimes.com, the brothers mention how they can see the actor as the next James Bond.
“He’s fantastic. I mean, he has more charisma in his pinky than most people do in their entire body,” said Joe Russo. “So you know, we’d watch him do anything – I mean we’d watch him read the phonebook!”
Anthony added, “[He’s a] very savvy performer and [has] so much charm.

I don’t want to tempt fate here, but it looks as though we might just be about to have an actual summer movie season this year. A proper one, like we used to enjoy in summers gone by, when the studios would stockpile their biggest blockbusters starring their biggest stars and scatter them throughout the school holidays. In the next few months we have superheroes, fighter jets, dinosaurs and child-pacifying animations all heading towards the cinema, where movies belong. Hooray!
Seems like old times? It’s hardly surprising. For the past two years, the annual summer blockbuster season has been on hiatus and relocated, possibly permanently, hopefully temporarily to our living rooms. So by way of preparing ourselves for the first movie-summer of the decade, stick a Verve CD into your Discman and let’s roll the clock back 25 years to see who won the box office crown in...

Though the onslaught of streaming giants is impacting Turkey’s TV landscape, it’s not as though Turkish shows weren’t doing gangbuster global biz way before Netflix and other platforms arrived on the scene.
“Turkish dramas were already reaching audiences all over the world on linear TV,” says Ekin Koyuncu, head of prominent broadcaster Kanal D’s international sales arm. And that is why streamers are now so keen on making Turkish originals.
What changes with having Turkish originals streaming on global platforms is that “the age targets are totally different,” she says. “With this [platform] product, we are gaining the awareness of a younger population, especially in the U.S. and Europe, where our linear penetration is actually low.”
So “both sides are benefitting from each other,” Koyuncu points out.

March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.
With its list of new releases for March 2022, Hulu is highlighting two major original series ripped straight from the headlines. The first is The Dropout, which premieres on March 3. This show stars Amanda Seyfried (taking over from the previously cast Kate McKinnon) as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Hulu is certainly hoping its version is the definitive one.

Kwame Kwei-Armah is writing the script. Paramount is hoping “The Saint” could kick off a franchise, as the film is based on the globe-trotting 1920s novel series by Leslie Charteris.
Philip Noyce directed the 1997 film version that starred Val Kilmer as Simon Templar, a thief for hire also known as The Saint, who is hired to steal the secret process for cold fusion. But a new job ends up putting him at odds with a man bent on toppling the Russian government, as well as a woman who holds the secret. Noyce’s film grossed $118 million worldwide.

Queen of the South was a creative, intriguing, heart-pounding ride that, oddly enough for a show about the violent world of drug cartels, left fans smiling in the end.
Did our TV Fanatics, Whitney, Jasmine, and Christine, enjoy the series finale? Were they disappointed at the ending? And what are their thoughts on this female-driven narco series as a whole?
Read below as we dive into the end of Queen of the South…
What were your thoughts on the series finale? Did you have a favorite moment?
Whitney: Deep down inside, I am a romantic. So I absolutely loved the ending and seeing James and Teresa and Pote and Kelly Anne together again and enjoying a meal together.
Happy endings are so rare on television, and I love that these four who have been through so much together got to have that moment, even if it took a long time to get there.

Andrius Blaževičius sophomore feature deals with the subjects of love and freedom. Marija Razgutė of M-Films and Andrius Blaževičius, respectively producer and director of Lithuanian drama The Saint (2016), presented their latest collaboration, Runner, co-produced with the Czech Republic, at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival’s Eastern Promises Industry Days, within the initiative First Cut+ Works in Progress (read the news). “My first feature The Saint addressed the topics of love and crisis, while the second one, Runner, is about love and freedom. Keeping in mind the threats that loom over Lithuania and the rest of Europe — the war in Ukraine, Russia’s aggressive attitude, the refugee crisis, the rising popularity of the radical right, etc. – a film about freedom is more relevant than ever before,” says the director. Following on from a July where they added a large number of horror titles to their catalogue, Hulu have now made available even more great outings from the genre. As with all the major streaming players, keeping subscribers happy with new content during this Covid-19 year has been crucial, especially given the new competitors that have sprung up in recent months, further splintering film rights. Hulu are usually pretty reliable in terms of diversity, though, and have added some particularly strong horror titles for August.
Among the highlights for new movies is the original 1988 Child’s Play, which introduced the murderous Chucky to the world in a film that arguably remains the high-point of the franchise. A reasonably realistic setting, a convincing child performance and some excellent effects work make Child’s Play a classic of the period and more than worth a rewatch. Actor Chris Pine will star as Paramount's "The Saint", based on the 1920's crime novels by author Leslie Charteris, to be directed by Dexter Fletcher:
The character has been featured in a long-running series of books and comic books published between 1928 and 1963.
Rko owns the rights to several films based on "The Saint", including the 1938 feature "The Saint in New York".
"The Saint" has previously been adapted for several motion pictures, radio dramas, comic strips, comic books and three television series.
Templar is known as 'The Saint' because of his initials (St) and because his heroic exploits fly in the face of an otherwise nefarious reputation.

Amazon Prime’s new releases in June 2020 is fairly lacking in original material. That’s to be expected for a streaming service that focuses on quality over quantity to begin with now going through a pandemic content crunch.
Standup special Gina Brillon: The Floor Is Lava, Joseph Gordon-Levitt film 7500, and Pete the Cat season 2 are the only originals arriving this month. And that’s fine as Amazon is about to be home to one of 2019’s most fun films. That’s right – Knives Out makes its debut on June 12. It might be awhile before we get to see the next Benoit Blanc mystery so hopefully this will tide us over.
June 1 also sees the arrival of Dirty Dancing, Kingpin, and the tragically underrated Sex Drive. It’s not the most impressive month Amazon has ever had, but at least you still get free shipping.

‘Wonder Women’ and ‘Star Trek’ actor, Chris Pine, has entered into negotiations to star in the upcoming reboot of ‘The Saint’.
The movie follows Simon Templar (a.k.a. The Saint), a Robin Hood-esque criminal and thief for hire. Seth Grahame-Smith penned the script on what the studio is hoping will be another long-running franchise of films. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing along with Brad Krevoy and the late Robert Evans, posthumously.
Pine would take the titular role if negotiations are successful. Plot details are being kept under wraps, though it’s believed to take place during the present day and is not a period piece. No date has been set for production start.
‘Rocketman’ helmer Dexter Fletcher will direct the film and Seth Grahame-Smith wrote the script. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing along with Brad Krevoy. Robert Evans, who served as a producer on the original film and died in 2019, also helped produce.

Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, and Chris Hemsworth have those roles seemingly locked up. Dexter Fletcher, director of Elton John biopic Rocketman, is set to tackle Paramount’s reboot of classic TV franchise The Saint.
The Saint, and its exploits of Simon Templar, is readying a return with the shiny new halo that is a reboot movie; a notion that just became a lot more real with the appointment of highly-sought director Dexter Fletcher to the picture.
Studio Paramount has officially hired Fletcher to direct its remake of The Saint, according to Variety. The production will see Fletcher – who’s enjoying newfound momentum from acclaimed Elton John biopic Rocketman – work off a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, adapting the classic antihero spy-thief franchise of author Leslie Charteris’s 1928-1963 novels, which, after early film versions, were famously adapted for U.K. television as the 1962-1969 ITV series, The Saint, which starred a future James Bond, Roger Moore. Deadline has confirmed that Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher is set to direct a redo of The Saint for Paramount.
The 1997 movie, directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Val Kilmer, followed Simon Templar (aka The Saint), a thief for hire. His job is to steal the secret process for cold fusion which puts him at odds with a traitor bent on toppling the Russian government, as well as the woman who holds its secret. The movie was spurred from the 1960s TV show starring Roger Moore, which was based on a 1920s book series by Leslie Charteris.
With a final domestic gross of $61.3 million and global take of $118M, 1997’s The Saint didn’t start a franchise.
Seth Grahame-Smith is writing the script for the new version of The Saint, which Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing along with Brad Krevoy and the late Robert Evans, posthumously.

After the success of its Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” Paramount has set filmmaker Dexter Fletcher to direct another high-profile project for the studio.
Fletcher will helm “The Saint,” a reboot of its 1997 action thriller that starred Val Kilmer. The globe-trotting adventure is based on the 1920s novel series written by Leslie Charteris.
Seth Grahame-Smith wrote the script for “The Saint,” while Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing along with Brad Krevoy and the late Robert Evans, posthumously.
The movie follows Simon Templar (a.k.a. The Saint), a Robin Hood-esque criminal and thief for hire. The book character also inspired a 1960’s TV show. While the ’90s film adaptation didn’t kickstart a franchise as hoped, the studio sees renewed potential for a long-running movie series.
“The Saint” will mark another genre film for Fletcher, who recently signed on to direct Universal’s monster movie “Renfield.” That adaptation will focus on R.
