Among Disney's vast catalog of characters, some of the most popular are the Disney princesses, yet not every princess gets the attention or the treatment she rightfully deserves. Generally, the Disney princesses who are most easily recognized are those from the company's most popular movies, i.e. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen to name a few. There are other princesses who may not be as memorable, but have plenty of adoring fans, such as Tiana or Rapunzel. However, there is another tier of Disney princesses who are often completely forgotten, yet have plenty to offer.
What is most surprising about these forgotten princesses is that they are actual princesses. While many Disney characters get honorary princess status despite not being actual princesses, like Hercules' Megara or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's Esmeralda, these underrated characters are true royalty. Not only are these characters swept under the rug,...

Kate Siegel reveals she is teaming with Stephen King to direct a short film he is writing following her directorial debut in V/H/S: Beyond. The short will be part of Siegel's teaming with multiple female filmmakers to produce horror shorts on YouTube, though remains mum on who the other filmmakers are. Between her extensive horror genre history and frequent collaborations with acclaimed writer/director Mike Flanagan, Siegel is perfect for a collaboration with King.
Having recently made her directorial debut with a celebrated anthology franchise, Kate Siegel is already eyeing her next project in the director's chair with a Stephen King short film. Siegel is best known for her frequent collaborations with her husband Mike Flanagan, beginning with his breakout 2013 hit Oculus, before eventually holding leading roles in The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher's cast, among others.

Disney's canceled Princess Academy project was too ambitious to be forgotten, as it promised to bring all princesses together in one place. The movie would have bridged the gap between Disney movies and franchises, offering new character dynamics and storytelling opportunities. Disney should consider reviving Princess Academy as a movie crossover, following the success of previous crossovers like the one in Ralph Breaks the Internet.
Disney planned to add an exciting princess project to its catalog, and despite its cancelation, it's too promising to not become a movie. Disney has been producing princess movies since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, and the studio has changed its approach to its heroines over time. Disney planned to bring them all together for an animated short called Princess Academy, which would have been a huge deal for the studio. Sadly, despite such a promising premise, the project never came to fruition.

Any canceled Disney movie with a female protagonist in a fantastical setting could have been a Disney Princess movie. Some canceled projects were promising, like a Rose-Red spinoff and Swan Lake adaptation, but were ultimately abandoned. Despite interesting ideas like Princess Academy with all its female characters, Disney shelved many ambitious projects.
The Walt Disney Company is constantly tossing around new ideas for movies, some of which never get made, including several would-be Disney Princess movies. Which of these canceled movies might have been made a part of the official Disney Princess line is unclear, as Disney's best unofficial princesses have long been underappreciated. Generally, any proposed movie idea with a female protagonist in a fantastical setting could have become a Disney Princess movie.
Some of these canceled movies probably would not have been well received, as evidenced by the worst Disney Princess sequels. Disney had ideas for other follow-ups...

There have been Stephen King movies for almost as long as there have been Stephen King books. King's first novel "Carrie" arrived in 1974, and by 1976, a "Carrie" movie was burning up movie screens. King was still relatively obscure at the time, but as his publishing career continued, he became a household name. He also became a recognizable figure, thanks to public appearances on talk shows, TV commercials, and of course, cameos in movies. King's very first cameo appearance was in George A. Romero's "Knightriders," a movie about a ren faire where people joust on motorcycles instead of horses. In that film, King plays a character named Hoagie Man, who can be seen eating a hoagie in a rather disgusting fashion.
After that, King had a surprisingly large role in Romero's horror anthology film "Creepshow," which King wrote the screenplay for. There, he plays Jordy Verrill, a hick farmer who...

Remakes are always a tricky proposition. Some of the greats both in the horror genre and elsewhere are actually remakes, whether it’s a loose one or not. Be it The Magnificent Seven coming from Seven Samurai or The Thing being birthed into imitation dog from the Christian Nyby and Howard Hawks original. I talk about The Thing A Lot but obviously it’s for a reason. You could also throw The Fly in that same category too while we are here. Those are some of the examples of the good but unfortunately, things can go downhill and fast. You have harmless ones like the Friday the 13th remake or Texas Chainsaw, the annoyingly unnecessary like Halloween and Amityville Horror, or the egregiously awful like The Fog and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Like them or loathe them, or in our case both, they are here to stay, and each...

Everyone knows about Stephen King's big-screen adaptations, but what about the small screen?
Once upon a time, Stephen King was the king of the miniseries. TV networks (especially ABC) would throw a ton of money at King to churn out a lengthy adaptation of one of his novels, or even an original work that they could slap his name on. These days, the idea of the miniseries doesn't quite exist anymore — in the age of streaming, it's been replaced by the more prominent "limited series." But there was something special about those glory days when network TV could turn a new King adaptation into a major event. You couldn't just fire up a streaming service and watch whenever you wanted — you'd have to tune in at a specific date and time and watch it as it unfolded. Something like that will never happen again — those days are over, folks.

Nearly three decades ago, Stephen King stumbled upon a copy of Lars von Trier‘s Danish miniseries The Kingdom in a dusty Colorado video store. Roughly seven years later, ABC premiered Kingdom Hospital, the author’s own take on von Trier’s haunted hospital. While conceived as a miniseries, King was so excited about the project — developed alongside his Storm of the Century and Rose Red collaborators — that he was ready to start work on a second season. The series premiered strong, but ratings dwindled and ABC pulled the plug just months later.

Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Two artists at the very top of their fields. King: one of the best-selling authors of all time. Spielberg: the filmmaker who invented the blockbuster. How have these guys never worked together? Well, it's not for lack of trying. In fact, these titans have come very close to teaming up on several occasions. When Spielberg was writing "Poltergeist," he wanted King's help with the script. "It didn't work out because it was before the internet and we had a communication breakdown," King told EW.
Then there was "The Talisman," the fantasy novel King co-wrote with the late Peter Straub. Before the book even hit the shelves, Spielberg scooped up the rights — but neither a film nor a TV adaptation has ever materialized. "Several times he came very close to making it, and there were a lot of discussions about that," King said. It was...

Rose Red, a television miniseries loosely adapted from Shirley Jackson's novel, The Haunting of Hill House, was filmed in Seattle, Washington, particularly in Thornewood Castle. Other locations used in the series include the University of Washington campus, the iconic Space Needle, and the Mount Baker neighborhood. Interior scenes were filmed at the Sand Point Naval Space, including the construction of sets for the Rose Red mansion's great hall, and the Artic Building served as the mansion's library.

Rose Red is not a Stephen King adaptation, but rather a loose adaptation of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, with parallels to the Winchester Mystery House. The marketing for Rose Red intentionally blurred the lines between fiction and nonfiction, with a tie-in book and a fake university website to make it seem like a true story. Rose Red may feel familiar at first because it taps into the familiar themes of ghost stories and haunted houses, which are the lifeblood of urban legends.
With the author's name attached to the project, it may seem like Stephen King adapted Rose Red from one of his books. The horror miniseries tells the story of Dr. Joyce Reardon and her group of psychics who go to Seattle's Rose Red mansion in search of proof of the supernatural. Stephen King's miniseries Rose Red had mixed reviews upon release but has gained new popularity since being added to Hulu's catalog in 2023. The miniseries allowed upcoming actors like Nancy Travis, Kimberly J. Brown, and Melanie Lynskey to showcase their abilities. Matt Keeslar played the role of Steve Rimbauer in Rose Red and has since had notable roles in films like Scream 3 and series like Dune.
Stephen King's underappreciated miniseries Rose Red includes a number of dynamic characters and a talented cast to bring them to life. In 2002, ABC released a three-part miniseries with a story by King. The show follows Dr. Joyce Reardon, a paranormal psychology professor who brings a group of psychics to the Rose Red mansion in hopes of finding scientific data that proves the existence of the paranormal. Once there, the team faces the evil spirits tethered to the house due to previous deaths.

Melanie Lynskey has posted her thoughts on Instagram about longtime friend Julian Sands, who was found dead in the Southern California mountains earlier this week.
Lynskey shared a photo of the pair and wrote about first meeting Sands while working on the 2002 movie Rose Red. She admitted being a bit starstruck as a big fan of Sands in the Oscar-nominated film, A Room with a View.
“I was so nervous I could barely speak to you,” she said. “When I did finally tell you what the movie/you meant to me, I was struck by your humility, your lack of ego, the absence of any grandstanding.”
The two became fast friends, Lynskey said, as she recalled their blossomig friendship.
“You bought me so many presents, mostly huge and intimidating non-fiction books and classical music CDs. You found out I’d never been to the opera, and so you came to...

Melanie Lynskey took to social media Wednesday to share a heartfelt tribute to the late Julian Sands.
Authorities confirmed the actor, who had been missing since January, died while hiking after his remains were recently found by hikers near the Mount Baldy wilderness area.
“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood,” the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said in a statement Tuesday. “The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.”
The Yellowjackets star shared a throwback photo of her and Sands dancing on Instagram and opened up about being nervous to meet him for the first time on the set of the miniseries Rose Red in 2000.
“A Room With A View was a movie I had seen dozens of times, and I adored you in it,” she wrote.

The search for Arachnophobia and Warlock star Julian Sands has come to a tragic end. The English actor went missing on January 13 while hiking in the Mount Baldy region in the San Gabriel Mountains. After eight different search and rescue missions took place in the following months, human remains were discovered in the area on June 27.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, those remains have now been positively identified as Sands. The late actor would have been 65 years old, as the hike began fewer than two weeks after his birthday. The exact nature of his death is still being investigated by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.

Not many horror films truly scare me these days. But alien horror? Even the ones substandard to most send me into a fear frenzy. That’s why I’m taking a deep dive into the sub-genre.
Welcome to Aliens Scare Me. A look into alien horror films on a case by case basis.
This month we’re probing deep into action/sci-fi territory with 1990’s Dark Angel; or depending on where you find it, I Come In Peace, starring the great Dolph Lundgren.

Rogue cop Jack Caine (Lundgren) has his partner killed by a gang of old white men called “The White Boys” (dead serious) who are subsequently murdered by a mysterious force using what appears to be a CD Rom disc as a weapon (still serious). It's a tragedy that Stephen King and Steven Spielberg have yet to work on a movie together, though the duo had three projects they came close to making. Spielberg's name would never be listed alongside the likes of John Carpenter or Wes Craven as a horror movie master - though he probably should. He showed time and again with the likes of Jaws, Duel or Jurassic Park that he's capable of creating unforgettable horror moments within crowd-pleasing blockbusters. Even E.T. began as a horror screenplay dubbed Night Skies.
Stephen King, on the other hand, has had his work adapted by Carpenter, David Cronenberg, George A. Romero, Tobe Hooper and most of the "masters." While mostly focused on his own prolific novel output, King has penned the screenplays to some of these films too, including Creepshow and 1989's Pet Sematary. While King and Spielberg have always been on good terms,...

Stephen King has been terrorizing generations of readers with his novels and short stories for decades, and while it might seem like he has been working non-stop for years, he actually retired in 2002, but eventually came back. Stephen King’s reign in the horror genre started in 1974 with the publishing of Carrie, and since then, he has allowed readers to explore a variety of fears and meet different creatures and monsters (human and supernatural) in his works. King’s success has expanded to other media with the adaptation of many of his works, though not all of these have been as well received as the source material.
Stephen King has published over 60 novels (including some under the pen name Richard Bachman) and five non-fiction books, along with approximately 200 short stories, and he continues to surprise the audience with more and more terrifying and sometimes tragic stories. King doesn’t show any signs of retiring soon,...

After finding immense success with The Haunting Of Hill House and The Haunting Of Bly Manor, creator Mike Flanagan recently discussed the potential return of the anthology series. Though it sounds unlikely there will be a new installment until there's a good ghost story, Redditors have been discussing the best horror movies about haunted houses.
The ghosts come out at night in these spooky movies with curious noises and chilling pianos playing without musicians. Whether the house is built on a cemetery or changes its own blueprint to confuse visitors, these horror movies have the best haunted houses.

After a brief theatrical run, Spirit Halloween: The Movie has officially been released across all major VOD platforms. The film's plot brings three friends together for what they think will be a night of fun inside the ubiquitous Spirit Halloween store. Once inside, however, they quickly learn that the store is far more terrifying than they'd anticipated. The film plays on the haunted house concept, offering an odd take on one of horror's oldest sub-genres.
For purists who can't get enough haunted house horror, Spirit Halloween might not necessarily be a hit. The film strays from the traditional concept - the likes of which has been meticulously crafted over many decades. So many films have found their way into the genre, in fact, that a wide array of favorites exist among its fans. Horror and television have always been a bit of an awkward fit. What’s scary and what’s bingeable are often mutually exclusive. Horror requires that you suspend your disbelief and the longer it asks of your attention span, the higher the risk that the tension wanes.

"Poltergeist" is a cinematic Rorschach test. Which scene was scarier, the maggoty meat or the evil clown doll? What does the film say about the values of 1980s American suburbia? Most importantly of all, did Tobe Hooper direct the film, or did producer Steven Spielberg do it on the sly? Director Mick Garris insists it was Hooper, but "Poltergeist" camera assistant John R. Leonetti says Spielberg. Film critic Scout Tafoya claims in "Cinemaphagy," his book covering Hooper's film career, that "Poltergeist" is Hooper's movie but has some distinctly Speilbergian touches.
There is another "Poltergeist" that never quite came into being. Early in the film's production, Spielberg decided that he needed help writing the script. In search of a horror expert, he turned to Stephen King, whose works at the time were tearing up the country's bestseller charts. King was away at the time, and by the time he returned, Spielberg had moved on.

This year Showtime amassed a total of 17 Primetime Emmy nominations, the biggest chunk of which are for the new drama series “Yellowjackets.” The show could potentially score wins in six categories, including Best Drama Series and Best Drama Actress. That lead performing prize would go to Melanie Lynskey, who has now finally been recognized by the TV academy after two steady decades of small-screen work.

Gathered here are the scariest and most bingeable horror shows that Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and more have to offer.
Horror and television have always been a bit of an awkward fit. What's scary and what's bingeable sometimes seem mutually exclusive. Horror requires that you suspend your disbelief and the longer it asks of your attention span, the higher the risk that the tension wanes.
Still, in the modern streaming era, there are plenty of horror TV shows that get the spooky job done. Gathered on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and HBO Now are some truly great bingeable options to elevate the heart rate. Here we've compiled the very best of the best. What follows are the 31 best streaming horror TV shows.

There's another Stephen King movie on the way! His novella, The Gingerbread Girl, is the latest story of his to get picked up for a feature film adaptation. The rights to the story were snatched up by Brainstorm Media.
The Gingerbread Girl was originally published in Esquire magazine and was later included in King’s 2008 collection of stories Just After Sunset.
For those of you not familiar with the story, it focuses on a woman named Emily, who is "recovering from a recent loss in a secluded house in the loneliest stretch of New England. She avoids contact with her husband and her father and channels her grief into a grueling daily running regimen. This is doing her all kinds of good, until one day she makes the mistake of looking into the driveway of a man named Pickering. Pickering also enjoys privacy, but the young women he brings to...

The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival commenced earlier this week, and having already sold a piece of his oeuvre during the festivities, another Stephen King short story has officially gone off the market, The Gingerbread Girl.
Earlier this week, Netflix closed a deal for In the Tall Grass, a novella written by King and his son, fellow bestselling horror author, Joe Hill. Today, Deadline is reporting that The Gingerbread Girl, which was originally published in Esquire magazine, has been optioned by Us production and distribution company, Brainstorm Media.
Frequent collaborator, Craig R. Baxley, who has helmed several other King adaptations, including Storm of the Century (1999), Kingdom Hospital (2004) and Rose Red (2002), will direct the film from a screenplay written by both he and the author.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a time-honoured story that’s gone on to become a fixture of Disney’s prestigious archive – but what of her sister Rose Red?
From what we understand, the House of Mouse has now hatched a live-action “companion piece” designed to tell the famous tale from the perspective of Rose, with screenwriters Justin Merz and Evan Daugherty – creative mind behind Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman – developing a revisionist take on the classic fairytale.
It’s still early, early days for the project, but tonight, we’re hearing that the studio has their eye on Captain Marvel star Brie Larson for the titular role. Though this scoop doesn’t come to us from Disney itself, it does make sense, given Larson’s connection to the House of Mouse via her involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Walt Disney Studios is rumored to be eyeing Brie Larson to play the title role in their live-action Snow White spinoff movie, Rose Red. The original Snow White was famously made by Disney (then-known as Walt Disney Productions) way back in 1937, and it was the first animated film of its kind. Adapting the classic German fairy-tale from the Brothers Grimm, it proved all doubters wrong and became an iconic smash hit, both critically and financially.

I didn’t remember Neil Gaiman’s story “Troll Bridge” well. In fact, if you’d asked me about it, I would have assumed some confusion on your part with Terry Pratchett’s short story “Troll Bridge,” and tried to lead you in that direction.
But story titles can’t be copyrighted, and even good friends can use the same ones without stress or strife. I’d forgotten it, but Gaiman did also write a story titled “Troll Bridge,” originally for the Datlow/Windling anthology Snow White, Rose Red in 1993 and collected a number of times since then. And, since Gaiman has a huge audience in comics that might not be as familiar with his just-prose works — or, at least, there are publishers willing to bet that’s the case — a number of his short stories have been turning into short graphic novels from Dark Horse over the past few years.

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs gets added to the list of live action takes on Disney animated hits...
In a surprise to pretty much nobody on planet Earth, it’s been revealed that Disney has added a live action take on Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs to its collection of remakes of its animated classics. The news follows the announcement of a live action The Lion King last month.
The only slight shock in this instance, really, is that it’s taken so long. Still, the studio’s original animated success is set to be put into the hands of screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson, who was the scribe who adapted The Girl On The Train for the big screen.
No director has been announced at this stage.
We do know who’s going to be song-writing duties, though. The pairing of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul...

“Pete’s Dragon” director David Lowery will helm a live-action “Peter Pan” movie for Disney, TheWrap has learned. Lowery will reteam with “Pete’s Dragon” co-writer Toby Halbrooks. “Peter Pan” is joining a long list of live-action properties planned at Disney: “Beauty and the Beast” is set for a 2017 release, and Emma Stone is attached to star in “Cruella De Vil.” Tim Burton‘s upcoming “Alice Through the Looking Glass” is hitting theaters on May 27. Suicide Squad: Reportedly, new footage for Suicide Squad is being shot right now with the goal of altering the tone of the movie to bring in "more of the lightness to which audiences responded" in an early trailer. Fairytale revisions are still all the rage in Hollywood. Yet another live-action take on Snow White's classic tale has just been picked up by Disney, according to THR. The script — written by Justin Merz — was originally focused on Rose Red, another protagonist from Grimm's Fairytale with no relation to Snow White. Until writer Evan Daugherty got an idea. I know, I know. You're rolling your eyes at the thought. But Daugherty has already tweaked the Snow White story before with Snow White and the Huntsman (which I really liked) and the upcoming The Huntsman: Winter's War (which I'm dying to see). He was also one of the writers on Divergent (another fave) and he's prepping the new Tomb Raider. All of that tells me that he's committed to giving ladies some kickass stories and this new Rose Red adaptation sounds like that's exactly what we're looking at. This time around,...
