In the manga, Minoru's sister is Kaede from Battle Doll Angelic Layer (2001) with the implication that both shows exist in the same world, this being the future of the other.
Throughout the series, Hideki is referred to as a "ronin", traditionally used to mean masterless or wandering samurai and has since evolved to be used to describe high school students who did not get accepted into university.
