One of the few episodes to feature both Morbo, the newsmonster, and Lrrr, Ruler of the Planet Omicron Persei 8. Since both characters are large aggressive monsters who sound incredibly similar (both voiced by Maurice LaMarche), the writers regularly tried to avoid having them appear in the same episodes.
The alien's abduction pipe effect is a spoof of the Windows' screen saver, 3D Pipes.
The name of the alien sex shop that the crew visits, "The Beast with Two Bucks: $1.99 Sex Shop," is a reference to a part in the play "Othello," written by William Shakespeare where the character Iago refers to the act of sex as "making the beast with two backs." Later, the second 'Futurama' movie would be called "The Beast With a Billion Backs."
Among the items found at the black-market bazaar are an "ancient" 20th century car roasting on a spit, and (20th century book and movie critic) Gene Shalit bobbleheads.
At the end Bigfoot walk off in to the trees in a fairly accurate imitation of the famous Patterson-Gimlin Film (1967).
