This is Vincent Zhao's first comedy series in which he plays Emperor Kangxi,a role which doesn't involve much fighting for him. He said during filming "it's awkward me having to depend on others to fight rather than handle things myself, I'm used to taking on all comers single handed but in this series I barely raise a finger".
