Before she retired from acting to build the company Space, Bridgit Mendler played Teddy Duncan on the Disney Channel series Good Luck Charlie. During her time on the series, Mendler fell for her co-star Shane Harper, who played Spencer Walsh. In the series, Mendler’s Teddy and Harper’s Spencer are dating from the first season, despite Spencer’s huge red flags.

Both the reel and real-life partnerships ended badly for the two. Coincidentally, there was a darker story behind how Mendler and Harper’s story ended, just like in the series. Mendler went on to tie the knot with Griffin Cleverly, who also became her business partner.

Demi Lovato belongs to the early 2000s generation of child stars who made it big due to their appearances in shows and films on the Disney Channel. Lovato is best known as a singer now but she rose to prominence with the Disney film Camp Rock and its sequel, and the series Sonny With A Chance.
Lovato’s struggles with substance abuse have been public knowledge and she has been vocal about seeking help and how being a child star put undue pressure on her as a kid. Lovato first courted controversy when she allegedly punched a backup dancer while on tour with the Jonas Brothers, which reportedly led to her exit from Sunny With A Chance.

This article cotains mentions of child substance and physical abuse, and suicide.
Child Star, Hulu's newest documentary directed by Demi Lovato and Nicola Marsh, explores the harsh reality of being a child star. From no agency to being overworked to abuse, children endure a lot to act, sing, and dance. At the beginning of the film, Lovato and Marsh recruited a handful of children to discuss their interpretation of fame and what they wanted to be when they were older. Demi Lovato also contacted former Disney Channel costars to ask if they would participate in this documentary to recount their childhood experiences working for Disney Channel.
However, there are child stars that Demi Lovato recruited for this documentary from other sources, including Nickelodeon, movies, and content creators. Demi Lovato brought their life experience full circle by co-directing the new Hulu documentary “Child Star.”
The former Disney Channel kid turned teen pop sensation looks beyond their own career journey to analyze the rise of the entire child performer industry — from the Shirley Temple era to the TikTok and YouTube generation.
Lovato recruited fellow child stars Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Raven-Symoné, Alyson Stoner and JoJo Siwa to share their stories on camera; Raven-Symoné, Siwa and Stoner also joined Lovato on Sept. 12 at a special screening of the documentary, held at Neuehouse Hollywood. “Getting to talk to them so candidly about our experiences was so meaningful to me,” Lovato told Variety.
Because of that shared experience, Lovato’s conversations were markedly different than sitting down with someone who hasn’t been there. “There was a connectedness that was really important to all of us,” Lovato said. “That’s...

A generation of kids (myself included) grew up with Demi Lovato on their TVs. They watched as an eight-year-old Lovato painted shapes and counted kittens in her first acting gig, on the PBS series Barney & Friends. A few years later, they belted the lyrics to “This is Me” during Disney’s Camp Rock sing-along specials and belly laughed to the “So Random” comedy skits on Sonny With a Chance. For Lovato, growing up in the public eye was all she knew. At age 16, she paused filming to tour her...

Over the years, Disney Channel has branded itself as the premier channel for family-friendly shows and movies, and that includes Disney Channel Halloween episodes. It's certainly worked for them, considering the channel has been around for 40 years. Still, keeping things broadly appealing sometimes means it's hard to delve into scarier fare.
Disney Channel is usually better known for offering seasonal content in the form of their Disney Channel Original Movies, but many of the network's television shows have also included themed episodes. Since Halloween is often synonymous with scary movies and TV shows, many people write off Disney Channel Halloween episodes as too childish. However, that doesn't stop Disney Channel from creating unique, spooky, and sometimes even hilarious Halloween episodes of their best shows, year after year.

Demi Lovato As A Child Star
Demi Lovato got her start in acting with another big Disney Channel and child star, Selena Gomez. The two became fast friends when they got their start working on the child series, Barney & Friends. This was Lovato’s first on-screen role at about 8 years old as Angela.
As the show was mainly for kids younger than 8, Lovato believes that her appearance on the show was why she got bullied. After the children’s show, Demi got her first big break as a lead in the Disney Channel hit movie, Camp Rock.

“Is the price of fame worth your childhood?”
The haunting tagline of Demi Lovato’s directorial debut “Child Star” asks what audiences have been forced to reconsider in 2024. With the onslaught of docuseries like “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” and “Showbiz Kids” this year, the ’90s and early 2000s are being reexamined for how kid actors were both treated on set and exploited.

What is it like to be a child star? For many kids, being a celebrity seems like a dream come true. In reality, those dreams quickly became nightmares for the adolescent performers who found themselves in the spotlight. The new Hulu film “Child Star” examines what it means to be young and famous. It hails from co-directors Demi Lovato and Nicola Marsh. Lovato is all too familiar with the topic, starring in Disney channel favorites like “Sonny with a Chance” and “Camp Rock.” The performer was also the main subject of another recent documentary.

In early April 2008, a few dozen people, including me, filed into a recording studio in midtown Manhattan to meet Disney’s “Next Big Thing.” That was how the company introduced a then-15-year-old Demi Lovato to the world, or to roughly 30 members of the media and advertising community.

It’s good to let the golden moments of childhood come flooding back sometimes, isn’t it? For many kids (& kids at heart), the Disney Channel played a starring role in our growing-up days, often feeling like an extension of our lives. Remember the superstar life depicted in Hannah Montana? And, what about the kids acting on a sketch show in Sonny with a Chance or dancing their hearts out in Shake it Up?

Then there’s the magical allure of That’s So Raven and Wizards of Waverly Place. While these shows were beloved for their whimsy and fantasy, Disney also struck a chord with characters grounded in reality, like the adorably awkward Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff).
Despite immense popularity, the continuation of the series hit a stumbling block over financial disputes. Reportedly, the actress’ mom was pushing for a bigger paycheck.

Taylor Swift & Joe Jonas’ Relationship Affected Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato’s Friendship (Picture Credit: Instagram)
Relationships in film city – professional or personal, friendly or romantic, keep changing with time. One such relationship was between Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez, who were inseparable. However, their sisterhood goals started fading away when the Jonas brothers – Nick Jonas & Joe Jonas, along with the pop queen Taylor Swift, entered Selena Gomez’s life.
Sel and Demi were 10 when they starred together in the American educational series Barney & Friends for children. They both starred in seasons 7 and 8 of the show, which started airing the year the actresses were born.
Later, they moved ahead with their specific careers, with Demi Lovato playing the lead in the television film Camp Rock, also starring the Jonas Brothers and the series Sonny with a Chance. Meanwhile, Selena Gomez landed the lead role as Alex Russo in Disney’s sitcom,...

Exclusive: Jeff Dunham has announced his 12th special, I’m with Cupid, which is set to launch just ahead of Valentine’s Day, premiering on Saturday, February 3 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt.
Bushwhacking their way through the topics of love, relationships, and all-things-Valentines in the special are Dunham and his beloved dummy cohorts Walter, Bubba J, Peanut, Jose Jalapeño “on a steek!,” and the suspiciously familiar ‘new’ guy, “Achamedes, Greek god of Keeler Love.” Check out a first-look clip above.
“If you hate Valentine’s Day, you’re Really going to hate this special…” promised Dunham. “Watch it with someone you love! Or alone… Or with someone you hate… With a beer.”
Filmed at the Straz Center in Tampa, Fl, the special comes on the heels of Jeff Dunham: Me the People (2022) and Jeff Dunham’s Completely Unrehearsed Last-Minute Pandemic Holiday Special (2020), as part of a three-special deal with Comedy Central.

Demi Lovato was revealed as Anonymouse on the season 10 premiere of The Masked Singer. The clues, such as her Disney past and being on Time's 100 Most Influential People list, hinted at her identity. Demi's clue package also included hints about her involvement with The X-Factor, her extensive car collection, and her close friendship with Nick Jonas. The reference to her hit song "Heart Attack" and the clue about her Texas roots further confirmed that Demi Lovato was behind the Anonymouse mask. She has overcome personal struggles and is now releasing her new album, Revamped.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 10 season premiere of “The Masked Singer,” which aired Sept. 10 on Fox.
“The Masked Singer” kicked off its 10th season on Sunday night with a special episode — and a lotta Lovato. Demi Lovato as “Anonymouse” was the first celebrity unmasked this season — although there’s an asterisk there. Lovato didn’t appear as part of the competition (otherwise they absolutely would have continued into future weeks), but as a one-off.
Lovato, of course, got their start at Disney — a.k.a. the Mouse House — via the Disney Channel movie “Camp Rock” and series “Sonny with a Chance.” So the “Anonymouse” character itself was most definitely a hint to Lovato’s identity under the mask.
Lovato opened the show with a strong take on “What About Love,” as originally performed by Heart. “Just like Michelle Obama, Oprah and Angelina Jolie,...

Demi Lovato has parted ways with talent manager Scooter Braun, with whom she signed in 2019.
Billboard reports that Lovato is seeking new management after splitting with Braun last month. Representatives for the singer and Braun didn’t immediately reply to The Hollywood Reporter’s requests for comment.
Braun’s Sb Projects manages Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Ozuna, Dan + Shay and Ava Max, among others. The news comes days after Puck News reported that Bieber was looking for new management; shortly after the story broke, Braun’s team said the report was false.
J Balvin parted ways with Braun in May, after signing with the manager in 2019.
Under Braun’s direction, Lovato released 2021’s Dancing With the Devil…the Art of Starting Over and 2022’s Holy Fvck. Both albums struggled to launch a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She was previously managed by Phil McIntyre of PhilyMack.

The things you do for friendship. An interview recently resurfaced following the release of Selena Gomez's intimate "My Mind & Me" documentary reveals the star years ago made a professional sacrifice for one of her closest friends at the time, Demi Lovato. In a 2020 appearance on Wildchat Sports, television director David DeLuise, who played the Russo family's lovable patriarch on "Wizards of Waverly Place," said Gomez turned down the starring role in "Camp Rock" to ensure that it would go to Lovato.
"I've never really said this story, but . . . they offered 'Camp Rock' to Selena," DeLuise said at the time. He continued, "And Selena knew that if she had passed on it, that Demi would get the part." Gomez already had her breakout as Alex Russo in "Wizards of Waverly Place," and apparently, in an effort to help Lovato catch her own big break, she gave up the...

Demi Lovato announced today that her current tour in support of her eighth studio album will be her last.
In several since-deleted Instagram Stories the singer posted photos looking out a hotel room window with the words, “I’m so f***ing sick I can’t get out of bed. I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.”
While Lovato indicated in her posts that it would be “this next tour” that would be her last, music outlets like Billboard are taking it to mean her current “Holy Fvck” campaign will be her last.
The singer then posted another set of Stories that reads: “Gonna power thru it for you guys [sick emoji] [black heart emoji] I’ll need help singing so sing loud for me bb’s!!”

A veritable army of Disney Channel stars are reuniting for a very un-Disney project.
Matthew Scott Montgomery (“So Random!”), Debby Ryan, Alyson Stoner, Kevin Chamberlin (“Jessie”), Tim Bagley, Shayne Topp (“So Random!”) and Damien Haas (“So Random!”) have all signed on to appear in an upcoming LGBTQ+ horror thriller directed by Allisyn Snyder.
Titled “Howdy, Neighbor!,” the upcoming film is written by Montgomery, and is formatted as a “screenlife” film, with all of the footage occurring on computer screens. Montgomery stars as Benjamin, a young queer millenial actor living in West Hollywood who was once a famous child actor. After conquering the music world, Demi Lovato is heading back to her acting roots with a new NBC series. The show, titled Hungry, is a scripted comedy about a group of friends from a food-issues group who "help each other as they look for love, success and that one thing in the refrigerator that will make it all better." In addition to starring, Lovato will also executive produce alongside Suzanne Martin, Sean Hayes, Todd Milliner, James Shin, Scott Manson, and Scooter Braun.
The project is certainly meaningful for Lovato. Not only would it mark her first starring TV role since Disney Channel's Sonny With a Chance - having previously guest-starred on Glee and Will & Grace - but the singer has also been very open about her battle with eating disorders over the years. "My eating disorder kept me from going back to acting for years," the singer told...

Demi Lovato announced last week that she was engaged to Max Ehrich, a 10-carat culmination of their whirlwind romance that began in as early as March. Not that it was a whirlwind courtship for Ehrich, who had his eye on the Sonny With a Chance star almost a decade ago. "All I wanted for Christmas was Demi Lovato," the actor tweeted back in 2011. It's good to let the golden moments of childhood come flooding back sometimes. For many kids and kids at heart, Disney Channel is a big part of growing up.
