Announced Jan. 21 at Miami’s Content Americas, the Rose d’Or Latinos Awards are “held during a period of great creative fervor, change, major challenges and arguably the greatest transformation the entertainment industry has ever experienced,” says jury chairman Marcos Santana, former president of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and current CEO of Mas Ros Media.

That creative fervor is well on display in nominations for the two biggest categories, Drama and Comedy/Dramedy. Variety profiles the nominees below. Some high-profile titles might seem missing: For example, Netflix’s “One Hundred Years of Solitude” and “Senna,” its biggest TV productions to date in Latin America. Voting, however, began before either title was released.

Apple TV+ has acquired global rights to Spanish rom-com series Love You to Death.

The streamer has acquired rights to the seven-ep series, which is from Spanish broadcaster Atresmedia TV and created by director Dani de la Orden (Casa en Flames). It will debut on Apple TV+ globally on Wednesday, February 5, 20205, with two episodes, followed by new ones each week until March 12.

Series stars Verónica Echegui (Orígenes Secretos) and Joan Amargós (Show Yourself) as a pair of friends who strike up an unlikely romance. Plot follows the cautious Raúl (Amargós), who reconnects with free-spirited and newly pregnant Marta (Echegui), after he receives a heart cancer diagnosis. They resume a childhood friendship, and in a relationship brought together by fate, begin to test their beliefs about love.

Fifteen-year-old Doc NYC, America’s largest documentary festival, has revealed its influential 15-film Short List. The festival will run its main lineup of 111 features, 32 world premieres, 24 U.S. premieres, and 129 short films in-person November 13-21 in New York City’s IFC Center, Sva Theatre, and Village East by Angelika and continue online until December 1 with films available to viewers across the U.S. All the films will have theatrical screenings at the festival, often with the directors in person.

Historically, most of the Doc NYC shortlist titles overlap with the Academy’s official 15-film Oscar shortlist. “We are incredibly proud to have such a remarkable group of honorees. Engel’s role might seem inherently religious on paper, but she struggles to embrace a God cruel enough to allow for the Holocaust, and seldom leads a session with her faith. Doc NYC, America’s largest documentary festival, on Tuesday announced its lineup in the short and feature categories, as well as for its Winner’s Circle category and its new section for 2023 titled Come As You Are.

All shortlisted films will have theatrical screenings at the festival. With Tuesday’s announcement, Doc NYC will present a total of 114 features and 129 short films in its 14th year, including 33 world premieres and 29 U.S. premieres.

The festival will run this year Nov. 8-16 at IFC Center, Sva Theatre and Village East Angelika in New York, and will run online through Nov. 26.

The festival’s new Come As You Are section features films about “people striving to find their place in the world, or in their communities,” according to the festival. Franchise veterans John “Jigsaw” Kramer (Tobin Bell) and Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) are back in action in the milestone sequel Saw X (our review), playing in theaters now. The sequel blends the old with the new, including relocating the lethal terror to Mexico. Bloody Disgusting spoke with director Kevin Greutert and production designer Anthony Stabley about how the Mexico setting informed the traps and new batch of survivors.

“A Still Small Voice,” which received the Directing Award: US Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival in January, has been acquired by Abramorama for North American theatrical distribution.

The film’s theatrical release will begin at Dctv’s Firehouse Cinema in New York City on Nov. 10 and will be followed by an expansion to Los Angeles and San Francisco theaters Nov. 17. After that it will open across the United States and Canada.

According to the official synopsis, the documentary “explores the world of hospital chaplains, who offer vital emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and staff. The documentary follows Mati, a chaplain at New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital, on a transformative year-long residency. Lorentzen reveals Mati’s spiritual journey and the universal quest for meaning amidst suffering and grief. Abramorama has acquired North American theatrical rights to Luke Lorentzen’s feature-length documentary “A Still Small Voice.”

The pact comes after the film made its world premiere earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, where Lorentzen received the Directing Award: U.S. Documentary. In 2019 Lorentzen’s “Midnight Family” made the Oscar feature doc shortlist.

The 93-minute film, which explores the world of hospital chaplains and the vital emotional and spiritual support they offer patients, families, and staff, will begin its nationwide theatrical rollout at New York City’s Dctv’s Firehouse Cinema on Nov. 10.

The movie has been a hit with audiences and critics at various film festivals across the world including Hot Docs Canadian Documentary Film Festival, DOC10 in Chicago, Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Director Kevin Greutert (Saw VI, Saw 3D), the franchise’s long-term editor since 2004’s Saw, helms the tenth installment from the screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

Greutert, Bell, and Smith aren’t the only returning franchise vets either; producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules launched the franchise in 2004 alongside James Wan and Leigh Whannell and have been with the franchise the entire way.

With nearly twenty years of franchise lore, history, and experience with Jigsaw and his gnarly traps under their belts, few know Saw quite like Burg and Koules.

Bloody Disgusting spoke with the tenured producers about Saw X and how much input they have on John Kramer’s lethal traps.

We ended last week with the first-ever clip from Lionsgate’s forthcoming Saw X, which gave us our first extended look at one of Jigsaw’s new devices – the eye trap!

The surprise with this contraption is that the game is actually connected to the character’s fingers, snapping them back with each turn of a dial. With the clip came a brand new image that gives a nice and clear look at Jigsaw’s menacing game, which appears to have already snapped three of the “victim’s” fingers.

In the clip, a man wakes up strapped to a chair. There’s a device clamped around his eyes and some sort of mechanics attached to all of his fingers. John Kramer, aka Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), identifies this man as a hospital custodian and offers him 60 seconds to complete this “game” or he’ll lose his eyesight – and maybe his life. When he turns the dial, a finger is cranked back, breaking it instantly. What happens to his eyes when he fails?!

A sequel to the original Saw movie, new franchise installment Saw X is headed to theaters on September 29, and a Very interesting new poster has arrived this morning.

Rather than showcasing a bloody saw or a severed body part, this latest Saw X poster promises that the film “cuts through time,” and the art calls back to previous Saw installments.

The Mayan calendar-inspired art is Loaded with references to the franchise’s past, suggesting that the new movie aims to be a truly satisfying full circle moment for the saga.

What we already know about Saw X is that it’s set between the events of Saw and Saw II, with both Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith returning to play Jigsaw and Amanda Young.

Coming to theaters on September 29, tenth franchise installment Saw X celebrates the 20th anniversary of the franchise with a direct sequel to the original classic. Tobin Bell is back as Jigsaw, who is still very much alive at this stage on the timeline, and director Kevin Greutert promises in a new chat with Empire that he takes center stage this time around.

The official trailer for Saw X debuted over the weekend, officially confirming that Shawnee Smith will be back as franchise villain Amanda Young in the upcoming movie.

This morning, Lionsgate has released another brand new sneak peek at Saw X, giving us a fresh look at Amanda’s return. How is Amanda Young still alive, you ask? Well, the upcoming Saw X is a direct sequel to the original Saw, meaning it takes place before the events of Saw II. It wasn’t until Saw III, you may recall, that Amanda and Jigsaw were both killed off.

Smith’s Amanda started out as a survivor of one of Jigsaw’s early traps, ultimately becoming an accomplice to the torturous madman – and as a result, a horror icon in her own right.

Revealed during the Midsummer Scream panel tonight, Saw X will be the longest movie in the franchise, which means that it’s longer than the 1 hour, 48 minute runtime of Saw III. It was also made clear during the event that this is very much Jigsaw’s movie. “John is the protagonist in this movie…This is John Kramer’s story as a human” – producer Oren Koules noted.

Tobin Bell is back for the upcoming new franchise sequel Saw X, which is headed to theaters this Halloween. But when the hell does the marketing campaign begin, you ask?!

Well, the official Saw channels on social media have shared the logo for Saw X this afternoon, while also teasing an appearance at the Midsummer Scream event in July.

“Put an X on your calendar. #SawX comes to Midsummer Scream the weekend of July 28th,” the official Facebook page for the 10th installment lets us know this afternoon.

Our best guess is that the trailer for Saw X will either be debuting at Midsummer Scream or releasing shortly before the event, but that’s pure speculation at this time.
