Fashion, East-West Asian identities, corporate espionage and romance are on the agenda in “Morning, Paris!,” a new mini-series project being pitched at Series Mania by veteran filmmaker Quentin Lee.

“’Morning, Paris!’ is a heartfelt comedy about a young modern Bipoc Canadian woman discovering herself in the most romantic city in the world,” says Lee. “Or put another way, it is a limited television series about an aspiring female fashion designer from Vancouver who ends up in Paris Fashion week with a very unlikely companion because she wants to spy on her boss on whom she has a crush. It’s ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ meets Robert Atman’s ‘Prêt-à-Porter’ with the sensibility of Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight in Paris’.”

The project was not always so simply defined. It was previously conceived as a feature film that was pitched at the Golden Horse Film Festival a decade ago, and which mainland...

International sales agency The Open Reel has unveiled the first trailer for director-producer Quentin Lee’s “Last Summer of Nathan Lee.”

Inspired by a real life incident from Lee’s high school years, the film follows the titular Nathan Lee, a teenager who finds out that he has brain cancer just before he turns 18, vows to live the remains of his life with passion and refuses to die a virgin.

The cast includes Harrison Xu, Matthew Mitchell Espinosa, Natasha Tina Liu, Aaron Guest and Dru Perez. The film is produced by Lee’s Margin Films, with screenwriter Dennis Escobedo and casting director Kit DeZolt also serving as producers alongside Lee.

“Last Summer of Nathan Lee” will have its world premiere at The Center for Asian American Media (Caam)’s CAAMFest 2023, which will take place from May 11 to 21.

Meanwhile, The Open Reel has also closed a number of sales on its slate titles.

Harry Shum Jr. is known for his role as Mike Chang (aka “The Other Asian”) on Glee and his dance moves as a member of Lxd as well as a background dance for the iconic Ladies First tour that featured Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott and Beyoncé in one of her first tours as a solo artist. Since then, Shum has appeared in numerous films such as White Frog, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, Crazy Rich Asians and the popular Freeform fantasy TV series Shadowhunters. Tyler Posey has signed on for a recurring role in the upcoming Starz comedy series “Now Apocalypse.”

The series is described as a surreal, coming-of-age comedy that follows Ulysses and his friends Carly, Ford and Severine, who are on various quests pursing love, sex and fame in Los Angeles. Between sexual and romantic dating app adventures, Ulysses grows increasingly troubled as foreboding premonitory dreams make him wonder if some kind of dark and monstrous conspiracy going on, or is he just smoking too much weed?

Posey will appear as Gabriel, described as an incredibly charismatic and mysterious guy that Ulysses matches with on a dating app. During their highly-anticipated first date, they can hardly contain themselves.

The series stars Avan Jogia, Kelli Berglund, Beau Mirchoff and Roxane Mesquida.

The latest short film by Quentin Lee, On Halloween, pays homage to spooky classics of the past with a few clever twists of its own. Viva Pictures has acquired North America rights to Quentin Lee’s The Unbidden, following its world premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival last week.

International rights to the film were acquired by Korea’s 9ers Entertainment earlier this month.

Described as the first female-driven Asian American supernatural thriller, The Unbidden stars Tamlyn Tomita (The Joy Luck Club), Julia Nickson (Rambo), Amy Hill (50 First Dates), Elizabeth Sung (The Joy Luck Club) and Michelle Krusiec (Saving Face).

The story follows a mystery novelist who believes she is being haunted and holds a dinner party for her friends, where the group is taken hostage by a gun-wielding stranger.

The film is produced by Charles Lei of Beijing-based Thunder Communications International, along with Us-based Stanley Yung, NaRhee Ahn and Lee. Lee’s previous directing credits include White Frog and The People I’ve Slept With.

Quentin Lee is one of my favorite independent filmmakers, in part because he refuses to be tied down to any particular genre. He's made a potent family drama (Ethan Mao), a slick-but-sincere romantic comedy (The People I've Slept With), and a coming-of-age film (White Frog), as well as short films and documentaries. Now he's announced his next project, The English Major, described as a Canadian chiller. In brief, The English Major is "a more literary version of Scream set on a college campus ... a thriller about a sophomore becoming the prime suspect of campus serial murders reminiscent to those committed by a dead serial killer 13 years ago." Devery Jacobs (Rhymes for Young Ghouls) (pictured above) and newcomer Aidan Parker (right) have been cast in key roles....

For the last ten years, Harry Shum Jr. has shown his gifts for acting, singing, and most extraordinarily, dance, starring in such films as You Got Served, Stomp The Yard, and Step Up 2 & 3, and moving on to his most famous role, as “Other Asian” Mike Chang on Glee.

Unfortunately, he was always underutilized during his time with the show, but still managed to stand out. He still makes occasional appearances, but has moved on to more film roles (he played Booboo Stewart‘s gay brother in White Frog), and shows us reminders of his incredible dancing ability.

Today is his 32nd birthday, so let’s pay tribute to one of our favorite triple threats.

The 2012 independent film drama White Frog directed by Quentin Lee deals with the fractured relationship between a gay young man and his brother with their family.

Young British Disney star Gregg Sulkin is currently filming supernatural thriller Panda Eyes in Wales, alongside Game of Thrones star 16 year old Sophie Turner.

Panda Eyes has been adapted from Catherine MacPhail’s novel Another Me, about a teenage girl Fay, with a dysfunctional family, who starts noticing strange things, and believes she is being pursued by her own double.

20 year old Gregg started acting as child when he played the lead role of Bernie Reubens in Sixty Six, directed by Paul Weiland. He plays the love interest of Selena Gomez in Wizards of Waverly Place, and is currently recurring on ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars. He has recently filmed a number of indie features including White Frog, and Camilla Dickinson with Adelaide Clemens.

Panda Eyes is directed by Spanish film-maker Isabel Coixet and also stars Jonathan Rhys Myers and Rhys Ifans.

BooBoo Stewart appeared on the cover of Captivate magazine in November and gave them an exclusive interview while on the set of ‘The Twilight Saga’. He speaks of his experience being involved in such a huge franchise as ‘The Twilight Saga’, travelling the world and acting.

July 11, 2012 - Gregg Sulkin, best known as Selena Gomez' werewolf boyfriend on "Wizards of Waverly Place", will star in "The Great Gatsby"-eque indie drama Affluenza. The coming-of-age story focuses on New York City's upperclass suburb of Long Island the summer before the 2008 financial meltdown.

Sulkin also has recurring roles on ABC Family series "Pretty Little Liars" and "Melissa & Joey." He's also in the upcoming White Frog with Tyler Posey and Booboo Stewart and Camilla Dickinson based on Madeline L'Engle's coming-of-age novel "Camilla" about a 15 year old girl whose parents are getting a divorce and finds solace by hanging out with a rebellious boy.

Imagine my excitement when I was given the opportunity to interview Booboo Stewart, who plays hunky wolf-boy Seth Clearwater in the last two Twilight movies (and in the final chapter: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt 2, which opens next November). I hadn.t actually seen any of the Twilight films but I.ve been told that Seth is arguably one of the most lovable characters in the whole series and I jumped at the chance to interview a bona fide teen idol. A little research revealed that 18-year old Booboo Stewart (real name Nils Allen Stewart Jr.) is quite a multi-talented young man. He.s not only an actor, but a comic book writer, a model, a dancer, a stuntman, and a musician. The popular Disney Channel show was nominated for two 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards — Outstanding Children’s Program and Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-camera Series — and HollywoodLife.com spoke exclusively with co-stars Gregg Sulkin and Maria Canals Barrera to get their first reactions to the exciting news!
