Although you can still catch Marvel’s most iconic heroes over on Disney Xd, the House of Ideas have decided to expand their animation library by crossing over with the Japanese anime realm yet again with Future Avengers.
Not too much is known at the moment when it comes to the overall plot of the series, but we understand that it centers on a young boy named Makoto, whom Anime News Network describes as “a young boy who gains superpowers due to an evil gene manipulation experiment. Makoto and other youths join the Avengers as apprentices named ‘Future Avengers.'” Furthermore, expect the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and Wasp to provide some expert tutelage.
If you were to ask me, that sounds like it’s taken some influence from Avengers Academy and may be worth checking out if you were a fan of the animated film Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow,...

Eddie the Eagle
Notable: On 6 June 2015, the real-life Eddie Edwards himself told BBC news that the movie will be 90% made up. Edwards said, “I’ve been warned only 10 to 15% of it is based on my life.”
This looks like it could be a nice addition to the underdog collection, next to Cool Runnings perhaps. The case is solid and the story is well worth the big screen adaptation. I only hope they have at least 3 montages of Eddie falling down and getting back up again
Gods of Egypt
Notable: The film features no Egyptian actors.

Machinima Prime has released a very fun sci-fi short film called Loadout: Going in Hot, which is a live action adaption of the third-person shooter video game of the same name. The short stars Battlestar Galactica's Richard Hatch as Captain Gaz. The story follows the Captain and his loyal crew on an adventure that brings excitement and absurdity. If you've played the game, then you'll notice some of the key elements from it in the short. If you haven't played the game, it's still an entertaining watch.
The short was directed by Vincent Talenti (Red Star, Fallout: Nuka Break) and this is the synopsis:
Battlestar Galatica's Richard Hatch captains a crew of merchant marines in space who compete with other local haulers in the highly profitable (and extremely dangerous) antiquities and curios shipping business. Gaz and his crew scramble to avert a ship-wide disaster; while racing against the clock and Gaz’s arch nemesis,...

Ever wanted to see the Punisher and Black Widow team-up? Well, here you go: “Avengers Confidential: Black Widow and Punisher” is an original animated movie from Marvel and the Japanese folks who make those very shiny Marvel movies like “X-Men,” “Wolverine,” and last year’s “Iron Man: Rise of Technovore.” The plot finds the two heroes (I don’t think you can actually call either one of them superheroes, right?) teaming up to save the world against some alien thingie. Of course, they have to fight each other first, because what kind of comic book team-up would it be if they just showed up and joined forces? Perish the thought! After interfering with a top secret mission, The Punisher is taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Avenger Black Widow. At the orders of Director Nick Fury, Punisher and Black Widow are sent on a mission to stop Leviathan,...

While Marvel has been kicking collective box office arse for the last few years when it comes to the increasingly popular blockbuster genre of comic book movies (with another one-two punch slated for this year via Shane Black's Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World), one area where it's been lagging behind its DC rival is in the department of animated features (and even animated series). Earlier this month, Marvel released the direct-to-video anime feature Iron Man: Rise of Technovore, and while far from perfect, it has some elements to make it memorable. We recently had the chance to fire off a few questions at Brandon Auman, the man behind the film's story and a longtime collaborator in Marvel's animation world, and here's what he had to say about Rise of Technovore, other Marvel projects, and the other animated series he's been working on.

If Marvel was ever trying to make a serious effort to catch up to DC in terms of the quality of their animated motion pictures, then Iron Man: Rise of Technovore could only be seen as a step backwards. While the overall concept driving the story and a brief detour that features a team-up between Iron Man and the Punisher give Rise of Technovore some badly needed ingenuity, the animation styles and a number of plotholes make those better facets all but pointless. The classic anime style doesn't feel like a throwback or like it was chosen for a particular reason, it just feels dated (in more ways than one with its release date likely meant to capitalize on the impending debut of Shane Black's Iron Man 3), cheap, and its colors look washed out - which is a huge shame since Blu-ray can do amazing things for quality 2D animation.

Harrison Wilcox is an associate producer on Disney Xd's Ultimate Spider-Man and also worked on Heroes between 2006 - 2009. He's written several graphic novels, including the She-Hulks limited series with Superior Spider-Man artist Ryan Stegman in 2010. Last week, we had the chance to quiz Harrison on his involvement with Madhouse's Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore anime (which was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray in both the UK and Us) as well as the other projects he's currently working on both at the moment and looking ahead to the future. What exactly was you involvement with Iron Man: Rise of Technovore? Megan Bradner and I worked closely with Brandon Auman, who did a great job on the concept and outline. We worked with Sony and Madhouse on translations and the script all the way through to production, post and the English casting and dubbing. How would you sell the...

With Iron Man interest at an all-time high, Marvel decided to shovel out this crap just before the actual Iron Man movie everyone wants to see opens, in a bid to make a quick buck. But don’t be taken in – this movie is an absolute mess from start to finish.
A bad guy with advanced biotech armour that outclasses Tony Stark’s Iron Man armour, attacks the launch of a Shield/Stark Enterprises surveillance satellite, causing hundreds of deaths including Tony’s best friend, Jim Rhodes aka War Machine. In the most confusing and contrived of sequences, Tony becomes a fugitive from Shield as Nick Fury sends out wave after wave of advanced weaponry to hunt down Iron Man. Meanwhile Tony tracks down Technovore only to discover it’s a far more dangerous construct than he imagined – but will he able to stop it and save the world?

“Iron Man: Rise of Technovore” is the latest in a partnership between Japanese anime studio Madhouse and Marvel Animation, the same team-up that brought us all four Marvel Anime last year. Personally I liked them all to varying degrees but was pretty pleased with them for the most part. I had really hoped Japan would take more license with the characters but hey what we got was pretty fun, and Iron Man was actually one of the ones I thought had a very unique story for. However “Rise of Technovore” cannot make the same claim. Let me start with a quick rundown of the plot. Tony Stark has created a new satellite dubbed “Howard” after his late father. The purpose of the satellite is the ultimate big brother to would-be terrorists and criminals, with everyone’s favorite peace keeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D. in control. The launch...

After two UK-only Iron Man themed contests, I told you guys across the pond that I would make it up to you, so I've managed to get hold of a copy of Iron Man: Rise of Technovore on DVD to give away to one lucky reader. As you've probably guessed, this particular contest is open to Everyone, and entering couldn't be easier! Check out the cover artwork and synopsis below and stay tuned for my review of the movie later this week. The winner will be contacted by this time next week. Directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki (Shigurui, Texhnolyze) with story by Brandon Auman (The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Iron Man: Armored Adventures), the film explores a confrontation between Iron Man and the villainous Ezekiel Stane, who develops new bio-technology that seemingly outclasses the Iron Man armor. After Stane unleashes a terrorist attack and sets Tony up to take the fall,...

Iron Man: Rise of Technovore opens with a bang: Iron Man and his buddy War Machine protecting a revolutionary new satellite from some mysterious armored menace. The two heroes zip through the sky, blowing things up with aplomb, and sniping at each other with childish tough-guy dialogue. It’s not high art, but it works... until it doesn’t. Nothing that follows captures that dopey energy of a good Saturday morning cartoon, making the rest of the movie a chore to sit through. This animated film (from Madhouse, most famous for its seminal anime classic Ninja Scroll) seems to fit right in with Marvel Studios continuity, pitting Stark against Ezekiel Stane, the son of Obadiah Stane, the villain in the first Iron Man film. The younger Stane is using a techno-organic...
