It's got a masked killer themed around the holiday, a genuinely fun "will they, won't they" romance at the center of it between Olivia Holt's Ally and Mason Gooding's Jay, and it plays expertly with two well-trodden genres. Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment are partnering to create a live-action feature film and television universe based on Hasbro’s massively successful Magic: The Gathering, Hasbro’s first $1 billion brand.

Initial plans call for a feature film to lead the charge, with television series and other content to be developed as well as the universe expands.

After first being announced back in 2018 and then getting a brand new director in Jim Mickle late last year, it seems the production of the live-action Hollywood Gundam film is now in full swing. Bandai Namco announced today that it will establish a North American subsidiary named Bandai Namco Filmworks America to help produce the live-action film and co-finance it alongside production company Legendary. 2018 Gundam Live-Action Film Announcement According to the press release, Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks signed the agreement to co-finance the film together in January 2025. The British actor played Trapper in the 2024 blockbuster, serving as a dentist and veterinarian to the monsters. He quickly became a firm fan-favourite and now, The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com) reveals that Stevens is in talks to reprise this role in Grant Sputore's (I Am Mother) unnamed follow-up to The New Empire.

Following his performance as Trapper in last year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Dan Stevens is in talks to return to the Monsterverse.

Deadline confirms the actor is in negotiations with Legendary Pictures to reprise his role alongside recently announced star Kaitlyn Dever in the next theatrical film in the Monsterverse franchise, which will be directed by Grant Sputore from a script by Dave Callaham.

In The New Empire, Trapper Beasley is a veterinarian that works for the scientific organization Monarch, with Stevens’ performance making him a new fan-favorite in the franchise.

The upcoming movie is described as a continuation of the franchise centering Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other Titans. Insiders say that while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters and the first logical choice landed on Dever, whose star has been on the rise for some time.

A decade ago, Legendary Pictures secured the rights to Godzilla and other characters owned and created by the Japanese company Toho so they could launch a cinematic universe they call the MonsterVerse – and they also secured the rights to the King Kong character so he could be part of their MonsterVerse as well. Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A movie from the Monsterverse has found new success on streaming after changing platforms. The Hollywood franchise blends characters and scenarios from two of the most famous and longest-running monster franchises in history. A24 has unveiled the new Death of a Unicorn poster, a dark comedy formerly titled Death of a Unicorne, ahead of the trailer reveal tomorrow.

The dark comedy, according to the poster below, will arrive in Spring 2025.

Death of a Unicorn stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega (Scream, X, “Wednesday”). But the talent doesn’t stop there. Not only is the dark comedy produced by Ari Aster (Beau is Afraid, Misommar), but horror master John Carpenter will compose music for the film.

In Death of a Unicorn, “A father (Rudd) and daughter (Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss (Richard Grant) seeks to exploit the creature’s miraculous curative properties.”

One shared cinematic universe that has only improved in quality as its grown in scope and size is the MonsterVerse. Starting with 2014's "Godzilla," the MonsterVerse quickly grew to include crossovers with other iconic kaiju, most notably including King Kong. The cinematic universe has also spread to television, from the animated Netflix series "Skull Island" to Apple TV+'s live-action series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters." Along with these shows, an extensively detailed history for the MonsterVerse has taken shape, particularly with regards to the role of the monsters, or Titans, in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Meticulously plotted, the MonsterVerse has created an entire timeline of itself, complete with recurring characters at different stages of their lives and, of course, plenty of Titans. Through its different projects, the MonsterVerse offers varied character perspectives on the same major events, including Godzilla's pivotal fight in San Francisco, marking the Age of Titans.

In April, it was confirmed that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 was a sure thing – and earlier this month, the new season officially began filming. Sawai portrays Cate Randa on the cast of Monarch, the granddaughter of Bill Randa and the primary protagonist of the show's present day storyline. Throughout season 1, she learns more about her family's involvement in Monarch and monitoring Titans around the world, eventually finding her way into Hollow Earth by the end of season 1. Season 2 will see her and the other major characters at an Apex Cybernetics location on Skull Island.

MonsterVerse is one of the most interesting cinematic universes out of all of them. The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures-owned franchise has earned over $2.5 billion worldwide and also consists of TV shows on different streaming services but the way it all came together is a bit iffy because of the rights issues and the general laziness that we see in the some of the MonsterVerse films, but still Godzilla vs. Kong is still one of the most iconic movies for me. So, we thought of compiling every project that exists in the MonsterVerse and ranking them according to their Rotten Tomatoes score, here it is.

More Godzilla is on the way. The Japanese kaiju franchise, which follows the titular giant irradiated lizard either wreaking havoc or defending humanity from other giant monsters, kicked off in 1954. It has since expanded to include 33 Japanese-language Godzilla movies and five English-language installments. Toho has produced and distributed every Japanese installment, most recently the 2023 smash critical and commercial hit Godzilla Minus One.

Via the Godzilla Official X account, Toho has now announced that a new Godzilla movie has been greenlit. The movie will once again be spearheaded by Godzilla Minus One writer, director, and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki. The announcement was made via a short video posing as an emergency Sos message, underscored by an urgent snippet of one of the iconic musical themes for the franchise composed by Akira Ifukube. Deadline reports that Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle has been tapped to write and direct the live-action adaptation of Gundam, which is being co-developed by Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks.

Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise, Gundam has been described as a space opera depicting a battle waged between massive mechs and armies of space colonies fighting for independence from Earth. The Gundam franchise has grown into a juggernaut over the decades, with dozens of TV shows, video games, manga, and much more.

Now, you may recall that this isn’t the first time Hollywood has attempted to get a live-action Gundam movie off the ground. Apple TV+ series’ Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters and Neuromancer, and a feature from Tokyo Vice director Josef Kubota Wladyka are among the latest projects to be granted funding from Japan’s location production incentive programme.

The second season of action-adventure series Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters will qualify for the incentive as it is set to film on location in Japan for several days in November. Kong's upcoming return in the Monsterverse can finally help make up for the true sequel to 2017's Kong: Skull Island that never ended up happening. The giant ape was first introduced during his solo movie, before having a crossover with Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021. He was later a prominent character in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in 2024, helping the reptilian Titan take down the Skar King. But his adventures are far from over, with a Godzilla x Kong sequel already in development, slated for release on March 26, 2027.

These crossover sequels have done plenty to emphasize Kong's character, often giving him the spotlight alongside a cast of human allies. According to Variety, the Legion alum has joined the cast of the second season of Apple TV+ MonsterVerse spin-off series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, in a heavily recurring role. Midthunder will play a character named as Isabel, who is described as “an intelligent and powerful businesswoman.”

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is the latest chapter in Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse series, which currently consists of Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the Netflix animated series Skull Island.

Amber Midthunder, whose TV credits include Roswell, New Mexico, Legion and Hulu’s acclaimed Predator prequel movie Prey, has boarded the cast of Apple TV+’s Godzilla-Kong series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

As reported by sister site Variety, Midthunder will fill the Season 2 role of Isabel, an intelligent and powerful businesswoman.

Amber Midthunder has joined Season 2 of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” at Apple TV+ in a heavily recurring role, Variety has learned exclusively.

The cast of Season 1 of the series included Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell as well as Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, John Goodman, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

Midthunder will appear as Isabel, described as “an intelligent and powerful businesswoman.”

Midthunder is best known for her starring role in the “Predator” film “Prey.” Released in 2022, “Prey” was the fifth film in the “Predator” franchise and earned strong reviews from critics upon its release. She was named one of Variety‘s 10 Actors to Watch that same year. Her other film credits include “The Ice Road,” “Rez Ball,” and the upcoming features “Novocaine” and “Opus.” In television, she previously starred in “Legion” at FX, “Roswell, New Mexico” at The CW, and “Avatar: The Last Airbender” at Netflix.

Peacock has released the official trailer, key art, and new photos for its upcoming Hysteria! series. The eight-episode series will premiere on Peacock on October 18, 2024.

THR reports that John Ortiz, best known for his roles in Fast & Furious, American Gangster, Kong: Skull Island, Mayans Mc, and many others, has joined the cast of Nobody 2, which is currently in production in Winnipeg.

The sequel will see Bob Odenkirk return as Hutch Mansell, the mild-manner family man who keeps his past as a government assassin under wraps. Connie Nielsen is also returning as Hutch’s wife, Becca, as well as Christopher Lloyd as Hutch’s father, a retired FBI agent. It was announced earlier this year that Sharon Stone would be playing the main villain of the sequel. Colin Hanks is also onboard as a “corrupt sheriff with none-too-nice ambitions.” It’s not yet known who John Ortiz will play in Nobody 2, but I always love seeing him pop up in projects.

TheWrap can exclusively reveal that Emily Hampshire is joining “Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice,” the high-concept action movie from writer/director BenDavid Grabinski.

She will star alongside the already-announced Vince Vaughn, James Marsden, Eiza González, Jimmy Tatro and Keith David.

The movie is a buddy action-comedy set in the criminal underworld; Hampshire will play a crooked cop.

The actress is perhaps best known from her work on “Schitt’s Creek,” the critically acclaimed comedy that ran for 80 episodes between 2015 and 2020. Hampshire has also appeared in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” and, earlier this year, “Humane” for David’s daughter Caitlin Cronenberg. She also starred in the “12 Monkeys” television series and the British supernatural series “The Rig” for Prime Video.

Principal photography on “Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice” started in Winnipeg earlier this month. The movie is produced by Andrew Lazar for 20th Century Studios, with Larry Fong serving as cinematographer.

Eternal Champions didn’t turn out to be as popular as Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat were but it clearly has a following, because more than thirty years after the game’s initial release, Skydance is moving forward with a film adaptation.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are producing the film for Skydance, while Toru Nakahara, who has overseen the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, is producing for Sony. Rob Ree serves as executive producer. Aimee Rivera is overseeing the project for Skydance.

Mortal Kombat will have some company in the film adaptation arena. Sega’s 1993 Sega Genesis brawler Eternal Champions has been picked up for an adaptation, courtesy of Skydance and Jurassic World and Kong: Skull Island writer Derek Connolly.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Eternal Champions project will have Ellison, alongside Dana Goldberg and Don Granger producing for Skydance. Meanwhile, Toru Nakahara, who has been head of the adaptation of Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, will produce on behalf of Sega. Rob Ree, who was able to bring Skydance and Sega together for the project, will server as executive producer, while Aimee Rivera will oversee the project for Skydance.

The Eternal Champions adaptation isn’t the only videogame-to-film project Connolly will be working on, as he’s also involved with Sony and Nintendo’s adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.

Skydance has closed a deal with screenwriter Derek Connolly to adapt Sega’s “Eternal Champions” video game series into a feature film, the company announced on Friday.

Originally released in 1993, “Eternal Champions” is a fighting game made for the Sega Genesis console. The game’s story follows an omniscient being known as the Eternal Champion who, in order to change the fate of a world on the brink of collapse, gathers the dead souls of individuals otherwise destined for greatness from different eras in history and pits them against each other in a fighting tournament. Those who lose remain in death, while the last survivor gets to regain their life, in hopes of bringing balance back to the universe.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce for Skydance. Toru Nakahara will produce for Sega. Rob Ree, who brought Skydance and Sega together, is executive producing. Aimee Rivera will oversee the project for Skydance.

The second season of Apple TV+ and Legendary Entertainment’s “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will shoot in Queensland, Australia. That represents a relocation after the first season of the action-adventure series was largely filmed in Canada’s British Columbia.

Location attraction agency, Screen Queensland said that the show will be able to access state subsidies from provided through the Queensland government’s Production Attraction Strategy. It will be largest ever series to film in the state and generate more than A$115 million ($76 million), the agency said.

The series follows other Legendary Entertainment feature films made in Queensland, “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire,” “Godzilla vs. Kong”; and Kong: Skull Island.”
