"Scars", the fifth episode of "Tokyo Ghoul"'s first season, is similar to the previous episode in that it begins with the everyday routines of its characters, particularly the very human relationships the non-human characters have with each other, but ends in a manner which is pure fantasy, and an over-the-top fight scene to boot.
Kaneki has to bring Touka food because she is sick, and he doesn't want to due to her unpleasant personality. He does so regardless, and when a friend of Touka's drops in, she gets the wrong idea about their relationship and storms off in a huff.
This is the stuff of soapies, but the end of the show is like a fight scene out of "Bayonetta". Of course the characters are all superpowered and can withstand awesome punishment, but they also have something called a "kagune", which seems to let them morph parts of their bodies into weapons.
Tsukiyama has truly become a villain, obsessed with eating his other ghouls. The fight scene at the end went on too long, though, and so did the soap-opera type bits at the beginning, which weren't all that interesting.
Unfortunately I have to say that this is my least favourite episode of the show yet. I hope it will go back up in quality in the next one.
