It's truly a testament to Kingsley Ben-Adir's talents that in a show as abysmal as Marvel's "Secret Invasion," he still managed to squeeze a gem of a performance out of it. There's a lot that went wrong with "Secret Invasion," but Ben-Adir as the disillusioned Skrull, Gravik, brought a level of gravitas to the freedom fighter who believes the best way forward for Skrull liberation is to make Earth only hospitable for the alien race. It's only a shame Gravik dies at the end of the show, thereby preventing him from really making a mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a better project, but it shows how Ben-Adir is so often the best part of whatever he's in.

Good tidings Freeform brings, as the network celebrates the adored seasonal tradition of 25 Days of Christmas. The programming event returns to spread holiday cheer starting on Sunday, December 1.

A delightful collection of Christmas favorites is being offered to make spirits bright, including Home Alone, The Santa Clause trilogy, and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). Select airings of perennial favorite Home Alone will incorporate “pop-up” facts about the classic holiday movie.

It’s November 1, and Freeform is already ready to start spreading holiday cheer.

The network released its 25 Days of Christmas schedule Friday, revealing all the programming coming up in December. There’s something for everyone, with things kicking off at 7 a.m. and extending through at least midnight every day from December 1 to 25.

The lineup includes classics like the Home Alone films, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, the Santa Clause movies, Miracle on 34th Street and multiple versions of The Grinch.

There’s also some non-holiday films sprinkled in, including Moana and Toy Story.

And, as always, Freeform has a few network premieres planned, including one for Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You on December 1, after which it’ll repeatedly air through Christmas Day. Dashing Through the Snow and Santa’s Little Helper are also getting a Freeform debut on December 8.

Though Hulu might not be the first streaming platform audiences would think of when it comes to Christmas movies, it holds its own against some of the bigger services. The film quickly became an iconic Christmas movie, but Warner Bros. found a way to return to the characters decades later with A Christmas Story Christmas. Alvina August has been cast in a recurring role in Bob Odenkirk’s upcoming AMC dramedy series “Straight Man,” Variety has learned.

The series is based on the novel of the same name by Richard Russo. It was ordered to series at AMC in April. In addition to Odenkirk, previously announced cast members include Sara Amini, Diedrich Bader, Suzanne Cryer, Mireille Enos, Olivia Scott Welch, Arthur Keng, and Cedric Yarbrough.

Per the official logline, the show follows “William Henry Devereaux Jr. (Odenkirk), the unlikely chairman of the English department at a college in the Pennsylvania Rust Belt.”

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced the 395 artists and executives that have been invited to join this year — about half the number of last year’s class. The 2021 class is comprised of 46% women, 39% underrepresented ethnic/racial communities and 53% international from 49 countries outside the United States. Of the 395 invitees, 89 are former Oscar nominees, including 25 winners.

Eight individuals have been invited to join by multiple branches and must select one branch upon acceptance. They include Leslie Odom Jr, Kaouther Ben Hania, Craig Brewer, Lee Isaac Chung, Emerald Fennell, Shaka King, Alexander Nanau, Florian Zeller.

Other big names among the newly invited include Walt Disney CEO Bob Chapek, “Promising Young Woman” original screenplay winner Emerald Fennell and “Minari” stars Steven Yeun, Ye-ri Han and recently crowned supporting actress Yuh-Jung Youn.

Universal has set “Bros,” a romantic comedy starring and co-written by Billy Eichner, for release on August 12, 2022.

Universal is touting Eichner’s “Bros” as the first openly gay man to star and co-write his own major studio film. And “Bros” is certainly the rare major studio romantic comedy that will feature two gay leads as they each try to maybe, possibly, probably stumble towards love…that is, if they can find the time. They’re both very busy.

Nicholas Stoller is directing “Bros,” and Stoller also co-wrote the screenplay with Eichner. The film is described as a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about finding sex, love and romance amidst the madness.

“Bros” is produced by Judd Apatow, Stoller and Joshua Church, and Billy Eichner also serves as an executive producer on the film.

Disney+ has a wide variety of Christmas movies, but Noelle is certainly one of the best. Made specifically for the streaming service, this hilarious movie has a great balance of heart and comedy in order to make it accessible to everyone. But one of the big reasons people of all ages can enjoy this is the characters.

There is truly someone for everyone to like and relate within this movie, which is brilliant to see. All bases are covered and obviously, with it being a festive movie, the characters are all nice. However, some just stand out and spread the Christmas cheer that much more than the rest.

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to alter people’s holiday celebrations, many people are finding that watching holiday films is one tradition that can continue. While there has been no meaningful change in the percentage of speaking characters with disabilities in these top-grossing films in the past five years with just 2.3 percent of the 4,451 characters analyzed in the 100 top-grossing films of 2019 by the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism having a disability, several holiday films are bucking this trend. And for the one-in-four people in the U.S. who have a disability, that means there are more opportunities to see ourselves reflected on screen.

A chorus of Happy Birthday, please, for one Michael Theodore “Mickey” Mouse, who reaches the grand old age of 92 this month. As befits his advanced years, Mickey will likely be celebrating with a swig or two of Pepto Bismol and the Band of Brothers DVD boxset. Or, if he fancies, he could always fire up Disney + UK and catch some new episodes of The Mandalorian (starting Friday the 30th of October) The Simpsons, and Agents of Shield, all of which will be on the streaming service in November.

(Though now I think about it, Mickey Mouse lives in America, doesn’t he? So he’ll already have seen most of that. And Noelle, the new Anna Kendrick Christmas film that came out in the US last year. Some people have it all.)
