Oscar frontrunners “Wicked” (Paul Tazewell), “Nosferatu” (Linda Muir), and “Conclave” (Lisy Christl) were all winners at the 27th Costume Designer Guild Awards (Cdga), held February 6 at The Ebell of Los Angeles. “Nobody Wants This” star Jackie Tohn served as host.

The film winners prevailed in the categories of sci-fi/fantasy, period, and contemporary, respectively. Costume designer Tazewell is currently the favorite to win the Oscar for “Wicked,” Jon M. Chu’s populist Oz musical. He created a connection to nature through mushroom motifs in the wardrobes for Elphaba (Oscar-nominated Cynthia Erivo), and a floating sensibility with effervescent pink bubble motifs in the wardrobes for Galinda (Oscar-nominated Ariana Grande).

In TV, the winners were “Dune: Prophecy” (Bojana Nikitovi) for sci-fi/fantasy, “Shōgun” (Carlos Rosario) for period, and “Hacks” (Kathleen Felix-Hager) for contemporary.

The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.

The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”

On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.

The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Another day, another guild award nomination for “The Substance.”

On Friday, the Costume Designers Guild announced its 2025 CDG Awards nominees, and “The Substance” costume designer Emmanuelle Youchnovski was among the artisans highlighted for recognition.

Youchnovski is the latest department head from the Coralie Fargeat horror satire nominated for a guild award this week, following editors Fargeat, Jérôme Eltabet, and Valentin Féron at the Ace Eddie Awards, and hair and makeup team Frédérique Arguello and Stéphanie Guillon at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards.

The film’s strong guild show corresponds to an outpouring of support from the journalists who make up the Golden Globes Foundation and Critics Choice Association. “The Substance” landed major nominations at both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards this week, including best film nominations at each respective event and two Best Director bids for Fargeat.

It’s a Friday the 13th treat. Shudder announced today a supersized “Season of Screams” programming event kicking off today, Friday the 13th, and featuring an epic lineup of new film releases, series, specials and live watch parties on Shudder TV.

The three-month celebration of the best in horror will also bring back an all-new Ghoul Log, Shudder’s popular Halloween Hotline for those in need of horror movie recommendations from Shudder’s Head of Programming Samuel Zimmerman, and spotlight popular horror franchise films from Friday the 13th to Children of the Corn, a press release tells us. And everything starts just in time for Halloween, with a supersized 90-minute premiere episode hitting Shudder and AMC+ on October 1. After that, a new one-hour-long episode will make its debut each Tuesday.

The Shudder horror competition series will return in just a few weeks and the full cast was just unveiled on Tuesday (September 10).

“This cast is incredible, and we can’t wait for the world to get to know them and watch their stories unfold,” Dracmorda Boulet shared in a statement with EW, who first revealed the cast. “They are a lot less safe and less worried about the fans’ potential reactions to them than casts in recent seasons have been, so there is a definite return to drama this season, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat.”

Fans of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula have been chomping at the bit for news about season six of the dark-themed competition series. Well, Shudder has now released the premiere date, along with a few other nuggets of info.

The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has come a long way since the first season, which aired on YouTube. Shudder picked up the series starting with Dragula: Resurrection, which was filmed at the contestants’ homes during the Covid quarantine, and season four picked up the following year. This year, Dragula and the Boulets were nominated for two Emmy awards (for makeup and hairstyling).

In addition to six seasons and Resurrection, the Boulet Brothers are also responsible for Dragula: Titans, which also aired on Shudder. Contestants on Titans were all prior competitors on various seasons of Dragula.

Just in time for Halloween, the new season will debut on Shudder and AMC+ in October, featuring a new batch of drag performers competing throughout ten episodes.

“This season, we’re pushing the boundaries of what horror and drag can be. Expect the unexpected, because we’re dragging our monsters deeper into the darkness than ever before,” Dracmorda Boulet shared in a statement.

The premise is misleadingly simple: The Boulet Brothers bring their devilish charisma to the judges’ table of a competition to anoint the World’s Next Drag Supermonster. Once again airing on AMC’s Shudder, the 2024 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards has shifted the annual awards show’s shift to October; as such, the window of this year’s eligible horrors is an expanded one, encompassing all of 2023 and the first half of 2024. That means a much bigger selection of horror titles to pull from, and with the expanded categories this year, that means a massive list of 46 nominees. They even have a new category this year: Best Video Game.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) got into a social media war with drag artist and activist Brigitte Bandit.

The Texas-based queen, who uses she/they pronouns and was born female, took to social media to clarify her gender identity and challenge Greene’s misinformed rhetoric.

Greene’s comments came after Bandit appeared on CNN to discuss her efforts to engage with both major political parties regarding the legislative attacks on the LGBTQ community in America.

In response to Bandit’s comment on how “scary it is” to see such offensive rhetoric from Trump and other lawmakers, Greene took to social media to criticize a clip of the drag performer.

“No, what’s scary is men pretending to be women reading gender cult lying books to our children, provocatively dancing nearly nude in public spaces, and taking over our bathrooms, sports, and private spaces,” she said. “Women and children need protection from them.

AMC Networks remain hopeful the Emmy chances for its zombie apocalypse property are not dead.

The network announced its Emmy submission strategy for the three spinoffs from “The Walking Dead” universe: “Daryl Dixon,” “Dead City,” and “The Ones Who Live.”

“The Ones Who Live” picks up after the conclusion of the original series, reuniting beloved characters Rick Grimes and Michonne, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira. This series will be submitted for outstanding limited or anthology series, along with its stars in the lead acting categories. Gurira, who wrote the fourth episode “What We,” will also be considered in the writing category, alongside director Michael Slovis. Additional noms will be pursued for Matthew Jeffers and Pollyanna McIntosh in their supporting roles, along with other artisan categories.
