For the first time in the show's history season 3 featured contestants that were born biologically female.
The show was inspired by a club event the Boulet Brothers held in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Former competitors of their club version include season one's Meatball and Pinche Queen, as well as Valentina of RuPaul's Drag Race (2009).
According to season 3 contestant Evah Destruction, during production she would go out and buy herself Yu-Gi-Oh cards to give herself "small comforts".
