Mulder doubts there are any coy-wolves in Eastwick Connecticut, but there are definitely coy-wolves in the area, first the police officers confirm the coy-wolves walk right into town, Second, all forests in Connecticut are suspected to be populated by Coy-wolf populations, and heavy ones at that. Almost all Eastern Coyotes are at least 30% wolf and 10% dog and are classified as coy-wolves. Mulder should just be doubting the attack was by a coy-wolf.
Scully and Mulder a doing a post-mortem examination of a victim, yet they were no sterile or protective clothing, not even gloves, and Mulder actually disturbs physical evidence with his bare hands.
Scully tells Mulder he would be wasting his time by interviewing a five-year-old eyewitness to a disappearance, but young children can be interviewed about what they've witnessed, as long as they have a parent or guardian present during the interview. Young children are also frequently called on to give testimony in court, for instance in abuse cases.
