The X Files: Rm9sbG93ZXJz (2018)
The proof that dialogue isn't always needed for good storytelling
Creepy! As a person already scared of robots and AI, this episode freaked me out a lot. I enjoyed it nonetheless, mostly because of the humour that it didn't fail to deliver, even there was not a lot of dialogue. Very clever episode and a nice approach to having just a few actors in an episode.
The only flaw for me was the underwhelming ending to all this terror. Also I knew from the very beginning that everything happened because Mulder refused to tip (but honestly, why would he tip a robot?? I understand why he didn't), so that was kind of predictable.
A bit sad that it was the first time we saw Scully's fancy apartment (and Mulder did too, did she just move in?), I would have loved to see how she usually handles all these speaking devices.
The end scene with Mulder and Scully in the diner was very cute.
I enjoyed it A LOT! It reminded me very much of the show Black Mirror.
The X Files: Nothing Important Happened Today (2001)
Not bad but ...
Also not good. I was very scared to start S9, due to the lack of Mulder, but decided that I had to watch it anyway. And it starts off with a disappointment - Mulder is "just gone"???? What?? How?? Without an explanation? Scully seems to know something, I hope she does. It would not be fair to her if he had indeed just left.
As for Doggett, I feel like he was meant to be hated at first but eventually everyone grew to like him. He's just a good guy and he's supportive. Sometimes I have the feeling that he likes Scully a bit too much, hope that's just my impression.
I personally really like Monica Reyes. She's a good agent and she and Scully have kind of a best friends dynamic. Scully after all already pointed out that she reminds her of Melissa. Beautiful. But why did she ditch her in the morgue? She just had to answer a question.
I don't really know how I feel about everything.
First Kill (2022)
I'm torn
The whole story about Juliette's family and the Atwood lineage is very interesting and made for older viewers, as me. Also very interesting characters, such as Elinor, Margot, Sebastian, Oliver, Davina.
Then there's Juliette and Cal ... their story is simply cringe and sometimes too overdone. Not believable and hard to watch sometimes. They're two narcissistic girls who give no damn about their family and friends. Every time someone close to them dies, they just... don't care.
Very unlikeable and annoying main characters but all the others are great. Reminds me of Twilight.
All in all it's made for younger viewers. For me it was okay.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018)
I enjoyed every minute of it.
Truth be told, I didn't watch it immediately as it was recommended to me. I looked at the pictures and thought "... nah. Too childish." But holy - it was amazing. After a year of not watching it I finally did, and watched it all within a week. It's funny, cute, thrilling, interesting, beautiful and touching. Character development 10/10. Recommended it to all my friends!
