An Optimist's Guide to the Planet has been like a weekly dose of happiness & hope when I've needed it most- a sort of love letter to our beautiful planet & the incredible people who are doing amazing things to make for a brighter future for us all.
With each episode of this wonderful series, my faith in the goodness of people has grown more and more by seeing so many examples of brilliance and compassion along the way. I really appreciated that the seriousness of the environmental issues at hand were presented honestly and informatively (yet in terms that everyone can understand), but with such a strong focus on the fact that hope is not lost. There's no politics involved and it isn't about scaring or shaming anyone. It doesn't try to talk you into anything. Instead it leaves you feeling naturally inspired and wanting to learn more.
I truly learned so much and feel much less anxious about the future of the planet, knowing there are solutions to our problems and people all over the world working hard to achieve them. And the gorgeous cinematography of the show actually inspired me to apply for a passport so I can get out there and see more of this beautiful planet first hand!
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who along with being a great actor is a dedicated UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, was the perfect host for the series, with his genuine love for people and the planet palpable in every scene- even the ones that were voice overs... I could *hear* when he was smiling, and his enthusiasm was so heart warming.
This awe inspiring show touched me on many levels, brought a smile to my face every week, and I've had great fun telling my family and friends about it, hoping it'll strike a chord with them as much as it has with me. It's a must watch!
