Will Smith and Mathew Lawrence as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett make for a pretty daring duo, even if they're just retreads of the 'Lethal Weapon' duo. For the record, Smith is the tough, trigger-happy narcotics officer who's always ready to shoot, and Lawrence is his calm, level-headed partner, though there are times the latter goes off the rails. Together they bust drug rings and leave a trail of devastation in their wake. In this first outing the two hip detectives (Will Smith, Martin Lawrence) protect a witness (Téa Leoni) to a murder while investigating a case of stolen heroin from the evidence storage room from their police precinct. Along the way they hot on the trail of a French drug kingpin named Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo) . Whatcha gonna do?. Ride together! Die together! What are you gonna do? If you can't stand the heat, get out of Miami! On the lam: Bad Boys style. Miami's finest are now the most wanted !.
This is a routine police action comedy filled with suspense with the usual daring ode to excess from prolific producer Jerry Bruckheimer. This fast-paced film includes frenetic and extremely over-the-top action scenes, thrills, loud chases, plenty of violence and full of cold-blooded murder. The somewhat crazy police officer Will Smith is always on the edge, together with his partner, the kind and good father Martin Lawrence, they once again offer sympathetic performances, providing special chemistry between the two actors. Violence, explosions of blood, frantic car chases and destruction have no limits in this film. This destructive, gunfight-filled epic features at least one imaginatively choreographed pursuit. And as you'd expect from Jerry Bruckheimer, some impressive special effects sequences, even if the running time is excessive. While it's all random shooting and macho attitudes, there's plenty of comic play in this peculiar 'buddy movie' setup, here happily exploited by the charismatic pairing of Smith and Lawrence. Unfortunately, the film needs a couple of rewrites to be properly developed and the suspense setups are somewhat outdated and already very hackneyed.
Producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckenheimer and director Michael Bay exploited a new 'buddy movie formula' that proved to be infallible at the time, continuing to this day in four entries, and those that may still be coming. 'Bad Boys' was the international launch into the world of cinema for both Smith and Lawrence, after having triumphed as comedians in television shows. In the first sequel: 'Bad Boys II', Theresa Randle would reprise her role as the jealous wife and Joe Pantoliano as the police chief. 'Bad Boys' also features other notable supporting actors and familiar faces, such as: Téa Leoni, Tchéky Karyo, Anna Thomson, Marg Helgenberger, Nestor Serrano, Julio Oscar Mechoso, and Michael Imperioli.
Michael Bay made his successful debut as a director with this film, after passing through the world of advertising and music videos, continuing a profitable collaboration with producer Jerry Bruckheimer with whom he would later tackle other important hits such as: ¨The Rock¨, ¨Armageddon¨ or ¨Pearl Harbor¨.
The 'Bad Boys' quartet, a modern saga of noisy action comedies, is made up of: ¨Bad Boys¨ (1995) by Michael Bay with Smith, Lawrence, Téa Leoni, Joe Pantoliano, Marg Helgenberger, Nestor Serrano, Julio Oscar Mechoso, Lisa Boyle, Michael Imperioli. ¨Bad Boys II¨(2003) by Michael Bay with Martin Lawrence, Will Smith, Jordi Mollà, Gabrielle Union, Peter Stormare, Theresa Randle, Joe Pantoliano, Michael Shannon, Jon Seda, Yul Vazquez. ¨Bad Boys for Life¨(2020) by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah with Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Paola Núñez, Kate del Castillo, Nicky Jam, Jacob Scipio, Joe Pantoliano . And ¨Bad Boys Ride or Die¨(2024) by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah with Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nuñez, Eric Dane.

Director Rob Reiner is in charge of bringing to the big screen one of Stephen King's best-selling novels that has seen other of his successful books turned into films, such as: ¨The Shining¨, ¨Carrie¨, ¨Art Pupil¨, ¨Dreamcatcher¨, ¨Stand by me¨, the latter also directed by Rob Reiner, being based on the novella "King's The Body" that delivers some self-biographic remarks and interesting storyline. Stephen King collaborated with director Rob Reiner who named his production company "Castle Rock" after a fictional town created by Stephen King and the two have worked as a team on several movies together. Under Castle Rock Entertainment, Reiner went to direct Oscar-nominated films ¨When Harry Met Sally¨, ¨A Few Good Men¨ and ¨Misery¨ .
The leading role in this chilling psychological thriller is played by James Caan giving a terrific interpretation. Alongside him, the great revelation of the film was the chilling acting of Kathy Bates, who managed to win the Golden Globe and the Oscar for best leading actress for her outstanding performance. Of all the prestigious cast she is the only one who remains alive, since all the other consecrated actors have unfortunately passed away. Today Kathy Bates continues working with great success, in fact this same year 2024 she won prestigious television awards for her role as the cunning lawyer Matlock. Other notable supporting actors also appear in shorter appearances, such as: Richard Farnsworth, Frances Sternhagen and the legendary Lauren Bacall.
It contains an excellent and suspenseful soundtrack by Marc Shaiman. Besides , exceptional and awesome cinematography by Barry Sonnenfeld (later became a famous director), being stunningly shown on the marvelous outdoors in Clear Creek, Carson City, Genoa, Reno, Nevada, and Truckee, California. The motion picture was compellingly directed by Rob Reiner. Of all the films he has directed, he considers Stand By Me (1986) as his masterpiece and his favorite film. Reiner as best friends in high school with Richard Dreyfuss, whom he later directed in this stunning Stand By Me . Reiner directed three of the movies ranked in American Film Institute's list of top 100 U. S. love stories in 2002: When Harry met Sally... (1989) , The president y Miss Wade (1995) and The Princess Bride (1987) . And Rob directed 3 actors in Oscar nominated performances: Kathy Bates, Jack Nicholson, and James Woods ; Bates won for her performance in Misery (1990). Rob Reiner has directed two films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: This Is Spinal Tap (1984) and The Princess Bride (1987). Misery Rating : 7.5/10 . Better than average , well wort watching .

An acceptable and passable film chronicling the tragedy of barbaric slaughter in the Spanish Civil War. Ariadna (Laia Costa) discovers that her grandfather has been searching for the remains of her father, who disappeared in the Civil War, for a long time. Determined to help him, she travels to Burgos, where they are exhuming a mass grave in which he might be buried. During her stay there, she will learn the story of Antoni Benaiges (Enric Auquer), a young teacher from Tarragona who before the war was her grandfather's teacher. So she discovers the story of an idealistic young teacher from Tarragona. Later on , Ariana meets an old man (Ramón Agirre) from the area that also hopes to find those of Antoni Benaiges, his teacher, there. Another story concerning a good man by means of flashback, a sympathetic teacher using an innovative pedagogical method, Antoni Benaiges inspired his students and made them a promise: to take them to see the sea.
Here a superb Enric Auquer (La Vida Padre) gives life to the idealistic Republican teacher Antoni Benaiges in this emotional biopic set in the Spain of the pre-war and during the outbreak of the civil war based on the homonymous book written by Francesc Escribano. The film unites two separated stories by 75 years, the first one deals with Ariana decides to travel from Barcelona to Monte de la Pedraja, in Burgos, to find out if the remains of her great-grandfather are in the mass grave that is being excavated and the second one about a adorable and likeable teacher. Although the real story of the teacher is adequately fitted, explained and dramatized, its reflection in the present is weaker, functional and, of course, less dramatically constructed. Auquer does a work of touching delicacy and tenderness playing a man who taught the children the value of knowledge and made them a promise: to take them to the sea. A very sad and terrible story, a very agreeable film.
¨The Teacher Who Promised the Sea¨ turns out to be an intense drama with historical and biographical elements ; including awesome performances and adequate set design . ¨El maestro que prometió el mar¨ results to be other of the innumerable stories to deal with dramatic deeds regarding the Civil War background. A familiar theme about the global horrors of a fratricide war , impossible to forget to our cinema . The movie is attractive enough, but I prefer the much better ¨La lengua de las mariposas (Butterfly, 1999)¨ by Jose Luis Cuerda, starring Fernando Fernán Gómez. An agreeable at the same time downbeat story with plenty of enjoyable moments , moving feelings and tragic finale .
Filmed in usual formal and stylistic scholarship , without leaving a trace the thought-provoking issues , in terms of dramatic and narrative excitement. The flick can be defined as a realistic tragedy-drama, a story in search of one's own roots , a historic fresco and a socio-political fable . The main problem has to face , beyond not being able to avoid falling into the politic pamphlet is precisely derived from the coldness of its staging , some slow-moving scenes and extreme manichaeism. Because the story needs a vibration more real than the one offered in this sometimes joyful as well as sad flick , though also contains humorous and charming moments when the children are gathered and play and enjoy with the teacher, and of course the strong and moving ending.
The motion picture was professionally directed by filmmaker/script supervisor/writer Patricia Font at her third feature film. She has also directed Pared con pared y Gente que viene y bah. And various TV episodes, such as: The Red Band Society, La templanza, Citas, Moebius, among others. The drama has just opened in Romania, Italy and Russia and will do so briefly in Austria and Alemania. The film was nominated for the 2025 Goya Awards for: Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Leading Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Costume Design and Best Original Music. Rating: 5.5/10.
