About The Role

The Staff Software Engineer, Experimentation Data at Airbnb plays a pivotal role within the Experimentation team, which is dedicated to providing a robust, insightful, and user-friendly experimentation platform. This platform supports A/B testing and other experimental methodologies critical for data-driven decision-making across the organization. As a key member of this multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the core infrastructure that powers Airbnb’s results computation stack, including data pipelines, experimentation grammars, and analysis engines. Your expertise will help ensure the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of experiment results, enabling teams to derive meaningful insights from their tests. You will collaborate closely with data scientists, data engineers, and product teams to implement sophisticated statistical methodologies, optimize data processing pipelines, and enhance the overall experimentation infrastructure. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence how Airbnb leverages data to innovate and improve customer experiences globally.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of shipping high-quality code in production environments
• Extensive experience with high-scale, distributed systems, data pipelines, and analytical libraries
• Strong background in scientific and statistical computation, particularly related to online experimentation and A/B testing
• Experience designing software with ergonomic interfaces tailored for technical data users like data scientists
• Proficiency with big data technologies such as Spark, Dataflow, or similar frameworks
• Deep SQL expertise, capable of debugging and optimizing complex queries
• [Nice to have] Experience developing frameworks for generating large-scale data pipelines
• [Nice to have] Familiarity with distributed stream processing frameworks such as Flink, Kafka, or Dataflow
  
  

Responsibilities

• Design, build, maintain, and optimize large-scale data processing pipelines to support experimentation infrastructure
• Contribute to Airbnb’s libraries for flexible, extensible, on-demand analysis of experiments
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the impact and usability of the experimentation platform across the organization
• Participate in all phases of software development, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, and on-call support
• Work closely with Data Science partners to integrate advanced statistical methodologies into the experimentation platform
• Conduct experiment reviews to understand user interactions, identify areas for improvement, and facilitate feature rollouts
• Ensure the reliability, scalability, and accuracy of results computation at Airbnb’s scale
