The purpose of a cruise control system is to accurately maintain the driver's desired set speed, without intervention from the driver, by actuating the throttle-accelerator pedal linkage. A modern automotive cruise control is a control loop that takes over control of the throttle, which is normally controlled by the driver with the gas pedal, and holds the vehicle speed at a set value. The diagram above shows a typical block diagram of an automobile car speed control. The Process Variable of the system is the car speed where Measurement Sensor (magnet and coil to clock drive shaft rotation) is used to measure the output of the system. The Set Point (SP) for this system is the desired car speed, recast in the controller as a desired click rate. This system have Disturbances (D) such as hills, wind, curves, passing truck which effects the output of the system.
B) House heating system

Diagram above shows a block diagram of house heating system. The process variable for this system is the house temperature. The thermostat controller is used to control the temperature where it will send signal to the furnace fuel valve which supplies heat for the house heating system. The temperature sensor acts as an measurement for the system where it will send the present temperature of the system. However, there will be some disturbance that will effects the system such as changing outdoor temperature, sunrise, sunset and rain.
