Pre Lab PDF

The document provides instructions for a pre-lab assignment on Thevenin and Norton circuit analysis. Students are asked to: 1) Calculate the Thevenin equivalent resistance and voltage for a provided circuit using node voltage analysis. 2) Draw the Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits. 3) Find the load resistance value that results in maximum power transfer.

Thevenin and Norton Analysis

Name:

Lab TA:

Date Submitted:

Lab Date:

PreLab 6 is Due Friday by 08:00A.M.to the Department of Electrical

Engineering office Drop Box in room 311 Russ Center. No late prelab
work will be accepted.

Purpose
The purpose of this laboratory is to practice the node voltage and mesh current theory. Also, you
will reinforce your previous understanding of voltage, current, and resistance measurements.
Note: These labs were produced by Dr. R. Hamilton. Additional images and some minor editing
has been added by D. Hance. All errors in the labs are mine (D. Hance). If you note any issues
with these labs, please send me an email at your convenience. Thank you.

PURPOSES
The purpose of this laboratory is to practice the Thevnin and Norton circuit theory. Also, you will
reinforce your previous understanding of voltage, current, and resistance measurements.

TASK INSTRUCTIONS
We will use the circuit below for the lab and the pre-lab. Attach a separate sheet of paper to this prelab detailing all the steps in the work you did to arrive at your answer. NO WORK = NO CREDIT

3. Now, draw the Thevenin equivalent circuit in the space below.

4. Now, compute and draw the Norton equivalent circuit in the space below.

5. Find the value for a load resistor placed across the opening between A and B that would result in the
maximum power transfer.

6. This is the end of the prelab activity.
