Understanding Polygon Hierarchy

This document discusses different types of polygons and their properties. It defines polygons as closed figures made of straight line segments that connect up. Quadrilaterals are a specific type of polygon that are four-sided shapes with internal angles summing to 360 degrees. Trapezoids have one pair of parallel sides and congruent diagonals. Parallelograms are quadrilaterals where opposite sides are parallel and congruent, and opposite angles are also congruent. Rectangles are a type of parallelogram with four sides and two sets of parallel sides. Squares are considered a type of rectangle, parallelogram and rhombus with four equal sides and four right angles.

Polygon Hierarchy

Christian Sumter

Polygons
Polygons are closed figure by
segments.
Its a 2-dimensional shape they are
made of straight line and they all
connect up.

Quadrilaterals
The reason quadrilaterals are under
polygons because its a four sided
angle an adds up to 360 degrees.

Trapezoids
It has one pair of parallel sides
Diagonals are congruent
Its an isosceles trapezoids

Parallelograms
The reason these are under
quadrilateral is that all angles have
an sum of 360 degrees.
That opposite sides are congruent
and opposite angles are congruent

Rectangle
The reason its under parallelograms
is that a rectangle has four sides and
they have parallel sides and opposite
sides are congruent.

Squares
Square is arranged under the rectangle
because its a parallelogram, rectangle
and rhombus.
It has two sets of parallel lines and all
angles are congruent.
The square and rectangle have
diagonals are congruent and bisect
each other.
