PET READING TIPS


Part 1
Read the instructions and example, then do each question one at a time as there
is no connection between them.
Read each sign carefully. Think 'Why is it here?', 'Who is it for?', 'Where would
I see it?'
Don't choose the first option you think is right. Look carefully at the meaning of
each option before you decide.
You may see some of the same words in the sign and the options but the whole
meaning must be the same in the correct option.
If there are negative words like no, not, no one, etc think carefully about the
meaning.

Part 2
Read the instructions carefully before you start. They will help you understand
the task.
Don't start answering the questions until you have read all the information at
least once.
Underline the key words in descriptions.
Some of the information about the people and the choices A-H may be similar.
Choose the most suitable answer each time.
When you have chosen your answers, check one again that the three you haven't
used from A-H don't mach any of the people.
Part 3
Read all the statements carefully before you read the text, and underline the most
important words.
Read the title and the text quickly for a general idea. Then, read it again more
slowly.
Remember that questions are in the order of the text.
Don't worry if you don't understand some of the words - you may still be able to
answer the questions.
Check you answers carefully: match the words you underlined in 11-20 with the
meaning in the text.

Read the title and the text quickly once for a general idea, then read it again
more slowly.
Remember that for some questions you need to understand the whole meaning
of the text. You may need to look in different parts of the text for the answer.
Read each questions and choices one at a time and underline the most important
words.
The right answer must be completely correct.
Before you decide on your answer, check once again that the other choices are
not correct.

Part 5
Read the title and the text quickly once for a general idea before you look at the
choices.
Read the text a second time more slowly. Read each complete sentence not each
line.
Before you look at the choices, think of a word which might fit. If it is one of the
choices, it may be the right answer, but try all the other choices too before
deciding.
Look at the words before and after the gap for help.
When you have finished read the whole text again to check your answers make
sense.
