K-Band Waveguide Exam Questions

This document contains an exam with multiple activities involving waveguides and transmission lines. Activity 1 involves finding the cutoff frequencies and losses of different modes in rectangular and circular waveguides. Activity 2 calculates losses in a brass waveguide filled with Teflon. Activity 3 determines resonant frequency and quality factor for a cavity. Activity 4 finds characteristic impedance and velocity for a transmission line.

Activity 1 :
Consider a length of Teon-lled, copper K-band rectangular waveguide having
dimensions a = 1 . 07 cm and b = 0 . 43 cm. Find the cutoff frequencies of the rst
ve propagating modes. If the operating frequency is 15 GHz, nd the attenuation
due to dielectric and conductor losses.
Activity 2:
Find the cutoff frequencies of the rst two propagating modes of a Teon-lled
circular waveguide with a = 0.5 cm. If the interior of the guide is gold plated,
calculate the overall loss in dB for a 30 cm length operating at 14 GHz.
