Understanding Dangling Modifiers

A dangling modifier is a word or phrase that modifies a word not clearly stated in the sentence. Dangling modifiers can be corrected by adding a noun the modifier describes or making the modifier part of a dependent clause. Examples show a participle phrase modifying an implied subject and a participial phrase modifying an unexpected subject that is clarified later in the sentence.
