Principals Message
For this months newsletter, I am delighted to take this opportunity to share my thoughts about our schools Parent Advisory Council, otherwise known as School Council or Parent Council. This group is made up of parents who are dedicated in their efforts to work with staff and students for the benefit of the whole school community and, more directly, our students. Special events such as the Open House in September, dances, and movie nights have been organized by members of our School Council who also organized the gift baskets initiative that helped make our two Christmas celebration nights a big success. They are always working behind the scenes to raise money for the purchase of extras such as Smartboards and to pay for workshops and performances in the school, all to enrich student learning. I would be remiss if I didnt take this time to also recognize and thank the many other volunteers who work with us to make our school the great place that it is. Those who come in occasionally or on a regular basis to do things such as read with students, help out in classrooms, prepare hot lunches, donate items and help with the pancake breakfast, to name a few, are greatly appreciated by staff and students. Thank you all. Through your efforts, students are experiencing first-hand what community stewardship is all about. We are fortunate to have such an engaged school community!

Warm regards, Paul Hannah

Food For Thought Cookbooks Helping Feed Our Future!

Did you know that 31% of elementary school children dont eat breakfast daily. The link between good nutrition and learning is well known. Children and youth who begin the day well-nourished are ready to learn and do better in school. Food for Thought Partnership has provided support to our school to run our nutritious breakfast/snack/lunch program. As a celebration of our 10 years of supporting children and youth, they have produced a local Food For Thought Cookbook. It is filled with more than 400 delicious recipes submitted by students, volunteers, teachers, parents, and many others from our community, as well as, artwork drawn by area students. The cost of each cookbook is $15. $5 of each cookbook sold will go to our school nutrition program. Cookbooks are available for purchase from the office.

NEPS School Council News

Hello NEPS Families, I wanted to take a moment to update everyone about the investments that Council has made for the students at North Elmsley. Our council members feel that it is important to let you know where all your hard work and dedication to our NEPS community has been invested and all the plans we have for the near future. If you have any questions I am always willing to try and find answers, so dont hesitate to contact me. Thanks for your time, Lesa Jones

Very shortly, NEPS will have its own

BEACH VOLLEYBALL COURT

As soon as the ground has thawed construction will begin. Our net will be adjustable to give all students access!

The beginning of the 2012-2013 school year was our first opportunity to make a major contribution to learning at NEPS. School Council purchased a new Smartboard for Mr. Wallaces classroom. Now each student has the opportunity to access Smart technology in their daily lessons. The school and council are entering into a joint-purchase of a Smart table. The arrival of this highly interactive cuttingedge equipment has not been decided yet. We are all anxious to have more technology to support all our students in their academic endeavors.
APRIL 13th is our SCRAPBOOK DAY at the hall in Port Elmsley. The planners have got some great ideas, prizes and vendors, all in one place for you to enjoy! Take some time to support your mental health and NEPS, all at the same time! Only $20/table 1-11 pm

A very special THANKS to ALL the students and their families for making our Easter Treat sale such a great success.
KUDOS to all the parents who have donated baked goods and treats for our school events. This cuts down on council costs, therefore gives us more money to spend on our kids. Many hands make light work! School Council also served hot chocolate and cupcakes to staff and students on Winter Carnival Day. A special thanks to Abby Carol and Carey Duncan for all your help. We are hoping to continue our new Basket Raffle draws for our June Fun Fair. Once again we will ask for a small donation according to your class theme and raffle the baskets the evening of the Fun Fair!
