Brandy Feagan
Williamstown Independent Schools 300 Helton Street Williamstown, KY 41097 Dear School Administrators: Five years ago, I found myself at a place in my career where I wanted a more challenging role in education. I wanted to influence the lives of my students beyond teaching English/Language Arts in the classroom. During my first few years as an educator, I had decided that becoming a school counselor was a goal I wanted to pursue at some point, but life circumstances had prevented me from taking the necessary steps to achieve this feat. When a position was posted for school counselor at Williamstown Junior/Senior High School in the summer of 2008, I followed my gut instinct and applied, even though I did not have a license to serve in this position. Despite my shortcomings, I was chosen for the job, and serving in this role has proven to me that helping students reach career, academic, personal, and social success is my passion. However, I have unexpectedly learned that helping students reach their goals involves more than just counseling: It takes an educational leader. During my pursuit of my school counseling degree, and while I was serving as a school counselor under a temporary license, I began to realize that I may have chosen the wrong path for pursuing my Rank I. Serving in the administrative role of school counseling allowed me to see the importance of effective leadership in an educational setting. Thus, I took an introductory course in educational leadership, along with my counseling classes. I quickly realized that my future plans would include obtaining my principalship. In my thirteen years as an educator, I have worked under seven different school principals. Each has had his or her own positive and negative qualities, and I have learned to adapt under various forms of leadership. Although I never thought I would desire to become a principal, my experiences with other administrators, both good and bad, have led me to seek a principal position. My love for the Williamstown Independent School District leads me to apply for the position as school principal at Williamstown Junior/Senior High. Having worked at Williamstown for the past eight years, I have developed a fondness for the school, community, parents, guardians, staff, and students. I have personally witnessed and contributed to the success of the high school, and if chosen as principal, I hope to maintain this success and also affect needed improvement in the junior high. The challenge is lofty, but my personal drive and determination will help me achieve my goals. Please consider me for this esteemed position. Sincerely,

Brandy Feagan
