Expecting Moms' Busy Day

The document summarizes the author's second prenatal appointment. They went to town with family and read books on sign language in the car. At the appointment, the author experienced intense cramps and pains all afternoon. The doctor's office was crowded with a long wait. The doctor said the pains were likely Braxton Hicks contractions but to follow her instincts. By the end of the day, the pains had reduced and the author hoped to continue canning work and carry the pregnancy further than the last one.

Early Bird?

11/08 Today I went to town with GR, Mom R., and R for my 2nd prenatal appointment. Figured since it had been four months since my first appointment and only six weeks to the due date, it was high time I saw the doctor. First thing this morning Mom R. ran to the post office and emptied our stuffed mailboxes. That was so nice since that included the library books I had requested on American Sign Language. I devoured the books all the way to the city and refreshed my memory of the alphabet and learned a few things about signing to toddlers. By the time we arrived, it was about dinnertime so I fed RCR while the others did their business. But I had gained such a bellyache I could hardly eat my lunch. I figured it must have been due to reading on the road. But no, things just kept getting more intensely painful. All afternoon the cramps continued in frequent waves. Sitting was the worst; walking helped some. Finally while Mom R shopped Value Village, I stopped in the furniture department and had a nap on a couch [chesterfield] for sale. At least lying down was less painful but the cramps didnt go away! The doctors office was extremely crowded and a total rat race as usual. (Too many doctors and patients and too few receptionists trying to utilize too small a facility. Sound familiar?) We waited for an hour and a half before seeing the doctor. I learned some more signs when the pains werent too distracting for even that. Soooo thankful GR was there to supervise RCRs rambunctious playtime in the childrens area. (Id had a daymare that I would have to go to the doctors appointment alone, land in the hospital on bedrest, and attempt to look after RCR until someone could come get her!) I saw on the window of the office a news article saying my sweet doctor was now president-elect of the Canadian Medical Association! But the last sentence said she will have to cut her private practice hours in half when she takes office. Finally she came in to see us. Little Wiggles heartbeat was great as usual. Hadnt kicked the door open yet. Everything about the doorway still seemed normal so she hoped the pains were nothing but Braxton Hicks. Me too! But why did they have to go on all day???? She said, You know what labor pains are like so you do what you believe is best. What a sweety! I was afraid she was going to insist on bedrest when I still have three pails of cranberries to can and a bushel of tomatoes! Walking around Wal-Mart and the grocery store gradually reduced the pains so that by the time we went out to supper, I was able to eat again. I managed to re-arrange the bags so I could lie down on the trip home and get some computer work done. (Right, who can sit and do nothing????) And it seems the pains are gone so Im looking forward to a good sleep tonight and canning session tomorrow. PTL weve already made this pregnancy last a week longer than last time, so we pray that Little Wiggles will just STAY PUT.
