Program Goals
Reebok's Management Information Systems
group needed a proven method for ongoing
worldwide communication to keep all the
divsions working together.
The Company
Founded in 1958, Reebok International Ltd. has
approximately 6,000 employees and over $3
billion in sales. Reebok, named after a small,
fast running African gazelle, has grown from a
small family-operated running shoe
manufacturer to a leading worldwide designer,
marketer and distributor of sports, fitness, and
casual footwear, apparel, and equipment.
How has Videoconferencing improved
communication for Reebok
When Reebok began an extensive project with
SAP Germany, one of the world's largest
application software companies, the MIS group
needed to be in constant communication while
collaberating on projects. Fred Doherty, Man-
ager of Network Engineering, oversees the
telecommunications systems at Reebok.
Doherty determined that videoconferencing
could provide the solution for Reebok's commu-
nication needs.
The use of videoconferencing by the MIS team
in handling the immense SAP project proved
successful and contagious. One of the first
groups to gain interest was RD&D (Research,
Design, and Development). With development
centers and designers located in the United
States, Korea, and Taiwan, RD&D utilized
videoconferencing to reduce travel time and
expense as well as shorten project
development cycles. RD&D must discuss and
agree upon every detail of a shoe from the
coloring to the stitching. TANDBERG's
videoconferencing solution allowed the U.S.
team to simply place a shoe on a table, zoom in
on any aspect, and discuss all changes that
needed to be made with the team in Korea.
As the use of videoconferencing spread to other
divisions within Reebok, the Human Resources
Department installed a system as well. The unit
provided a way for Human Resources to
interview potential employees without having to
fly the interviewee to Reebok's office.
Why Reebok Chose TANDBERG
TANDBERG's philosophy of providing high
quality equipment that is both reliable and easy
to use proved to be a key factor in Reebok's
decision to make TANDBERG its
videoconferencing company of choice. By
providing a range of products to fit different
application needs, TANDBERG was able to
provide Reebok a solution for maintaining
worldwide communication while reducing
product development time. TANDBERG's
portfolio of products presented a significant
value for incorporating innovative technology
with value and customer support.
