5th Grade Discipline

2009-2010

Dear Parents:

I am pleased to take this opportunity to meet and welcome your child to my class. A good learning
experience is built on a cooperative effort between parent, child, and teacher. My expectations for
conduct and standards for academic growth are high. With your participation we can look forward to a
productive, creative, and fun year together!

I believe all my students can behave appropriately in my classroom. I will, therefore, tolerate no student
stopping me from teaching and/or any student from leaning.

In order to guarantee your child the positive learning he/she deserves, this Discipline Plan will be
observed:

Class Rules:

Common courtesy is expected at all times.

Be quiet and productive during all work/study periods.
Follow directions the first time I give them.
Keep desks and classroom clean at all times.
Come prepared with proper school supplies.
Complete all class work and homework.

If a student breaks a class/school rule the following consequences will occur:

1. Verbal warning.
2. Student/Teacher conference and a letter written by student, which will include a detailed plan of how
he/she will improve their conduct and attitude, will be sent home.
3. Parent/Teacher conference.
4. Discipline Report with suspension of any and all-Fifth Grade Privileges.

Students who behave appropriately will be positively rewarded with:

Positive notes home Praise Incentives Free time

Test:
Students will have spelling tests ( and any other subject) on Fridays.
Test dates will be given to the children at the beginning of the week.
Students need to study for their test as they will not have access to their textbooks or notes during tests.
In addition, students do not have option of re-testing for a higher grade.

A few reminders regarding homework:

All assignments are to be in on the day and time they are due (not allowed to call home for someone to
bring homework).
Students who have a problem understanding home assignments must show evidence of working out
problems, and be able to state specifically what it is they had problems understanding.
A written excuse by the student’s parents which expresses a very serious reason will be the ONLY
excuse for homework not begin turned in. “I forgot my homework” or “I didn’t finish” are not
acceptable .
Students who are absent for any reason must take the initiative to make up work missed.
I expect homework to be neat, NOT SLOPPY!
Math must be always done in pencil!

If your child is unable to come to school due to illness and you would like to pick up their work please
call in the MORNING to make arrangements for work to be picked up that afternoon in the office.
I will assign homework Monday through Thursday nights. Homework should take no more than one
hour and a half to complete each night, not including studying for tests and long range projects. Your
child will be responsible for listing homework assignments, dates of quizzes, dates of major tests, and
projects. All class assignments, projects, major tests, and homework assignments are written daily on
the board and at [Link] .
Working together, with your support and cooperation, we can make this year a very positive and
exciting experience for your child. Please go over this letter with your child and return it to me with
your signature and your child’s signature as soon as possible.

I COUNT IT A PRIVILEGE TO HAVE YOUR CHILD IN MY CLASS THIS YEAR.

Thank you,

Mrs. A. Aparicio
