Matinee Bag Pattern

Five feminine, frivolous and fun-to-make bags adorable with spring-summer costumes and all amazingly easy to make.
Three have Basket Bag Bottoms (ready-made); all have Drawstring Tops, and all are ready to carry everything that goes
into a lady's purse.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
DRITZ Luxury Belastraw Art. 110, 2 tubes

DRITZ Metal Crochet Hook No. 2


Lining material
GAUGE: 11 sc = 2". Note: The wrong side of shells is right side of fabric.
BOTTOM: Ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.
1st rnd: 7 sc in ring. Mark last st of every rnd to insure proper shaping.
2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc (14 sc).
3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next. Repeat from * around (21 sc).
4th rnd: * Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next. Repeat from * around (28 sc).
5th to 12th rnds incl: Sc in each sc increas-ing 7 sc evenly on each rnd (84 sc at end of 12th rnd).
13th rnd: Sl st loosely in back loop of each sc. Cut a piece of cardboard same size as crocheted piece.
SIDE1st rnd: Working in back loop of each sc (behind each sl st), make * sc in next sc, 2 sc in next. Repeat from * around (126
sc). Ch 3, turn. Hereafter work in the back loop only of each st.
2nd rnd: 2 dc in 1st sc, * skip 2 sts, sc in 13 sts, skip 2 sts, 5 dc in next. Repeat from * around ending with-skip 2 sts, 2 dc in same
place as first 2 dc. Join with sl st in top of starting ch-3.
3rd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * shell in next sc, skip 2 sts, sc in each of next 7 sts, skip 2 sts, shell in next sc, sc in
center st of next shell. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in back loop of 1st sc.
4th rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, * sc in center of next shell, shell in next sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, skip 2 sc, shell in
next sc.
Sc in center of next shell, shell in next sc.
Repeat from * around, ending with 2 dc in same place as first 2 dc. Join.
5th rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * shell in next sc, sc in center of next shell.
Repeat from * around. Join.
6th rnd:Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, * sc in center of next shell, shell in next sc.
Repeat from * around ending same as 4th rnd. Join.
7th rnd: Repeat 3rd rnd.
8th rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, continue same as 2nd rnd.
Repeat 3rd to 8th rnds incl once more; then 3rd, 4th and 5th rnds once more.
BEADING: Ch 8, * dc in next sc, ch 5. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st in 4th st of starting ch-8.
EDGING1st rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * in next sp make (ch 5, sc) twice; ch 5, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around.
Join.
2nd rnd:

* Ch 8, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join and end off. Tack cardboard to inside of bottom. Line with lining material.
CORD (Make 2): Cut four 3-yd. strands of Belastraw. Follow directions for Twisted Cord on patternbook page.
