2nd Yr. B.Tech.
Instruction: Answer ALL the EIGHT questions
1. Calculate the values of the resistors R13 , Rc and RE for
the amplifier, whose circuit is shown in Fig. 1. such that
the operating point is set at Ic = 1 rnA, VcE = 5 V and
the small signal voltage gain of the amplifier becomes INPUT..;
35. All the external capacitors may be considered as
short circuit at the frequency of operation. Given that
VA~ oc, YsE(on)= 0.6 V and~= 100. (6) Fij.i
2. Draw the frequency response, clearly indicating lower
cutoff frequency, higher cutoff frequency and mid
frequency voltage gain for the amplifier circuit shown
in Fig. 2. Given that Rs = 1 MQ, Rc = 5 KQ, Cn = 3 ~F,
Cn= lOpF, ell= 1 pF, ~ = 100, v A~ oc, YsE(on)=0.6 v.
(6)
3. Find out the value of the resistor R 1 in the circuit shown
in Fig. 3, such that the drain current flowing through M 1
is 435 ~A. Calculate the drain current flowing through
M2 if R2 == 2 KQ. It is given that for both M 1 and M2:
Kn = 0.4 rnAIV 2, Ytn = 0.75 V and An= 0.05 v- 1 (6)
Fi9. 3
4. Draw the small signal equivalent circuit of the common
emitter amplifier with active load as shown in Fig. 4
and estimate its small signal voltage gain. Assume that
the tninsistors are properly biased in the active region.
Early voltages for the npn and the pnp transistors are as
follows: IV A(pnp) I = 7 5 V and IV A(pnp) I = 50 V. ( 6)
5. Calculate the differential gain and the common mode
gain of the differential amplifier circuit shown in Fig. 5,
when the common mode input voltage is zero. Given
2
that, for M1 and M2 : Kn = 0.4 mAIV , Vtn = 0.75 V,
";.,.. t
An = 0.05 V 1; for M3 and M4: Kp = 0.25 mAJV 2,
I Ytp I= 1.0 V, Ap = 0.08 v-'; value ofR is such that the
drain current through Ms is 800 ~A. (6)
